  • Megabloom of Harrisia fragrans tonight. Most of the prickly apple on this side of the tent had a bit of a miracle with the right conditions and are going blooming wild. They're not quite three years old from seed. We look forward to seeing bright red fruit to make Tent #2 look like Christmas in July, and expecting tens of thousands of seeds. Visible halfway down the row, up front is one stem of H. aboriginum, with its short white needles - I moved several to this side to see if it would stimulate flowering on that species but probably won't see buds until October if I'm lucky. Those have all favored rapidly gaining height over flowering. I specialize in growing Florida-able columnar cacti mostly from Florida, the Caribbean and Brazil. Lots of cool stuff going on at Cactus Island Nursery - see more at www.cactusislandacres.com
