The composer of this masterpiece is the illustrious Dr. V. Raghavan - most brilliant Sanskrit scholar of the 20th century - and has every attribute of Maha Periyava worked beautifully into this song. He also chose the raga and worked with Vidwan B. Krishnamurthy to record the original version much earlier than this rendering by MS.
That alapana is so powerful and so rich with all the hues of the raga perfectly painted on, at the right time, in the right places. I have no words to explain the grandeur and majesty of this rendition. Marked for all future Keeravani references!
I have been addicted to this song for many months now. Can't stop listening to it. Several aspects of Maha Periyava has been conveyed so succinctly with the only language that is capable of doing so - Sanskrit! Is my all time favorite. ✌🏼
I forgot to add the stamp "Kavikokila" was the title Maha Periyava bestowed on Dr. Raghavan and Kiravani was his favorite ragam. Dr. Raghavan went through several manuscripts to perfect his composition and placed it at the feet of Maha Periyava to get his blessings before setting it to music with B. Krishnamurthy.
MS MS we miss MS. Guru Bharthi kept her singing to such pinnacle with the grace and compassion of HH Mahaperiyava Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Swamigal.
The Composer Dr. Venkataraman Raghavan (1908-1979) was a highly respected and prolific Sanskritist and Indian musicologist, particularly focusing on Carnatic music. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Padma Bhushan and the Sahitya Akademi Award for Sanskrit, and authored over 120 books and 1200 articles! His native place is Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu..
Who is playing the violin so sublimely? Perfect accompanying and playing.
