Dang. If you hadn’t said the voice breaking was an accident, I would’ve believed it was part of the song, because my goodness, it was so perfect for that. And the fact that it’s genuine emotion makes it that much more perfect.

I never expected Vex's song to be so heartbreaking.... a great character study of the hurt under her self-confident exterior and desire for material riches, and what she truly values under it all. As for the last line, I'd never have realized that it hadn't been meant to break off, it was truly perfect.
"When I die, gild my bones" one line in and it's already a banger, you KNOW it's gonna be good
Your voice cracking in that last line honestly adds so much to the song, in a way I'm glad you couldn't sing it without breaking. Vocalists who genuinely feel the emotions behind the lyrics always perform and ring true.

I just realized that 1) Vex and Vax's art in these videos are looking at each other, and 2) the last two stanzas for both their songs are painful parallels for each other ("I'd give up all my gold for just one more day to tease you" and "There's no price too steep to pay to bring you back to life"), Chase, you freaking genius; painfully beautiful work.
The like octave down harmony is so rich and juicy, it makes it feel like vax is kinda singing it with her, or that she has part of herself somewhere else that is expressing this. Golden dude. Just golden.

This song is absolutely beautiful. It perfectly captures the wants of Vex. How she always wanted to be known instead of being worthless. Her own father abandoned her and vax but this song hits so different cause she is just trying to prove herself to everyone as well as trying to find her own way in this messed up world.

That voice break honestly adds so much more to this songs end. It stays steady throughout in it's highs and lows. Flows smooth. So for it to break then literally makes it hold quite a bit of weight in a very good way. You don't really get that in songs usually. (Also will admit that part made me cry a bit.)
I was already emotional at the start of the song but then the finale just fucking shattered me. Amazing work, as always!

I love how your voice weakens as the character starts talking about how much she misses her brother. It sounds exactly the way someone experiencing those feelings would actually sound.

The ending had me in tears. I am the oldest in my family, I have 5 siblings. There is nothing I wouldn't do for them, cheesy as it is to say. I love them more than anyone I know. What is money or a castle or any posession worth if there is no family to cherish it with? This song is a masterpiece.
Okay, I didn’t know anything about Vox Machina (I finally looked it up in Google), but when this song cycled through on auto play the hair stood up on the back of my neck. Truth. The evocatively somber but heartfelt lyrics, the warm baritone voice that I could feel in my chest through the subwoofer. I love this song. I love listening to it, I love singing it (it lets me use my lower range). This is a perfect song and leagues better than anything playing on internet radio.
