and I still don't understand what I watched Lmao. It's an aesthetic movie but, confusing.
As a big, burly guy, this is one of the absolute few songs that can physically move me to sobby, blubbering wet tears at just how beautiful this song is. Gets me every time..
I'm an emotional cripple, but even I was taken aback by the sheer calming beauty of this song and the opening animation.
The ending song is catchy too, always made me excited to watch the next episode.

This art style kind of reminds me of Jim Henson's movies Labyrinth and Dark Crystal. Also the intro to the song gives me chills. Reminds me of my childhood growing up watching VHS of studio ghibli films like: Howl's moving Castle, Spirit Away, Ponyo, Princess Mononoka, and Cat returns. I miss that feeling of happiness.
Record of Lodoss War has an amazingly intricate artstyle in general. Such a great influence narratively and artistically on Japanese sword and sorcery media even today.

Parn's armour style frequently comes up too.
This song and Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete brings a smile to my face every time because those songs were my childhood.

When you realize the OP is from Deedlit's perspective. One of the last lines is about Deedlit waking up, implying the song up until that point was from her dreaming. Of course she was dreaming, because she's reliving memories of Parn, who would've grown old and died while Deedlit stayed young. Yet even as she awakens from her dream, the song ends with a line about her still being captive to the chains of Parn's heart. It's a profoundly simple way of demonstrating just how in love Deedlit is for Parn. She REALLY fell for this dude right from the start.
Beautiful song. Her voice is just perfection. She really put a lot of emotion into this.

This really deserves a full quality animated video that focuses solely on the romance and feelings of longing for your lover.

This series got me into anime. One thing lead to another, now it's been almost over twenty years and it took me directly to my literary career and a life I wouldn't trade for anything. It's amazing how well the story holds up even after so long.

I really like the japanese version...until it gets to the chorus. She sounds stretched. This english version goes the route of a duet in those parts, and it works so much better. Definitely one of my most favorite anime themes of all time. I could watch the original Lodoss War OVA every day, especially after that wonderful Blu-ray transfer.
Try the Canadian white girl himeki version. Best Japanese version. Lol by a Canadian lol

Still the best fantasy anime ever.
Too many 'fantasy' anime are actually 'fantasy videogame' anime and/or isekai. I know this is heavily tabletop inspired, but it isn't bombarding me with rules and classes to impress me. Its just a bunch of fantasy characters on an adventure.

@@redfiend ppl are being dramatic,,,, there were tons of fantasy and high fantasy shows up till about 4 or 6 years ago, even today there is a anime called feline or something it’s fantasy…im 42 I love this show and berserk they are high on my list , but to act like shows. Don’t do it any more is just nuts, remember shows like record and berserk Where not main stream at the time….i had to go to sun cost video to see them in the early 90 along
with vampire hunter d ghost I. The shell and ninja scroll on vhs.

Ironically……..anime do NOT do music like this and they did for the late 80s and 90s anymore u have to look to video games…….for good music like this..

Sadly, it doesn't get better, though the tv series isn't bad. Some of the other series were worse.
The TV series was trash, though. The first half was almost unwatchable but it got better in the second half.

I grew up with this. It was one of the first anime I saw. First was Venus Wars, then Akira. Lodoss was maybe the third or fourth anime I saw. I just remember Sci-fi channel hyping it up hard-core on their commercials.

AAAH! This song is SOOOO NOSTALGIC! Every time I listen to this, I feel so sorrowful & exultant at the same time! This is how this song stirs me! THAT is how TRUE MUSIC should be! THAT is what makes it a TRUE CLASSIC! If I were to play D&D again, I want this playing in the background! Aaaah, Record of Lodoss War! By the way, do you happen to have MORE classic anime series themes (be they opening or ending) as well as in episode songs in English? As I recall in episode 5 of Record of Lodoss Wars, there was a bard singing of the 6 heroes' quest from 30 years prior but even in the English version it was sung in the original Japanese! Why couldn't they have also sung that in English too & put it in the English language soundtrack of Records of Lodoss Wars? It would've been a CLASSIC COLLECTOR'S ITEM! Incidentally, do you also have the English sung variants of the songs of Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, too? And I DON'T mean the ones from Robotech: Macross Saga! Those are entirely DIFFERENT! If you do, it would be MOST APPRECIATED! And I know I didn't say this earlier but BRAVO! ENCORE! MORE! MORE!

But, if I were to make a humble suggestion to you, if we're talking classics, then I would humbly recommend the English versions of "Do you remember love?" from the anime movie Super Dimensional Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? as sung by two VERY TALENTED Ladies, namely Caitlyn Myers & Amanda Lee AKA AmaLee! Trust me: You WILL find my comments on each of these WONDERFUL Ladies if you look long enough! And if you feel the same way as I wrote in their respective channels about their BEAUTIFUL renditions of the same song, then I humbly urge you as a fellow fan to subscribe to both of their channels as they are both WORTHY of it! For more contemporary songs that are far more strident & with more testosterone, I humbly recommend both the English versions of "Guren no Yumiya" & "Sasageyo" from the anime series Attack on Titan & the BEST I've heard renditions of both songs are from, again, Ms. Amanda Lee AKA AmaLee, Jonathan Young, NateWantsToBattle & Cole Staggs! That is a very evil looking dragon
The teeth are very goofy. I know what they were going for, it’s a very classic look, but the anatomy doesn’t make much sense.
The dragon is there to prevent people from simping for the elf.

The english version of this song is just better and not by a bit but we are talking leaps and bounds. There's a despair and yearning melted with love. She's just an overall better vocalist.
They do kind of "cheat" a little by adding things that aren't in the original version, such as reverb and harmonies. Whereas in the original, she just has her voice alone with little to no added effects.
What I find awesome though is that rather than one version being better than the other (cause really, that's subjective to each and every one's taste), it instead gives us two different moods. The Japanese one is softer, melancholic, and contemplative; you can feel that she's just lost in her love for whomever she's singing to. While the English one is more romantic and theatrical, almost like an opera song, which makes it more of a passionate declaration of love than it's softer counterpart.
And quite honestly I think that, THAT, is the beauty of covers. Everyone interprets songs differently based on their own feelings and experiences, and there is no "one true best version".
