Thank you for the video, never knew this was an option, ive got 333,333 miles on my original starter and she starting to sound weak now that the temps are getting into the 20s. Already screen shot the part number, thank you!
I'm digging my Denso Extreme High Torque gear reduction starter for my 7.3. I believe its rated at 5.35hp. It cranks strong and hard, even in the middle of my minnesota winters. Had it on for at least 7 yrs now and it still cranks like new. Spendy yes, Quality yes, Have i ever had to fix or repair it because it came from autozone oreillys auto or napa, NO. That right there makes it worth it.
@@DumbCarGuy I’m sure your right however when a truck comes in and it’s down I have to get what I can get my hands on then, and not everyone is up for spending more than necessary
What year is the truck... Oreilly's says this starter will fit a variety of F250, super duty, F350, F450, F550s in a variance of years, but Oreilly claims is doesn't fit on the 2002-2003, 7.3 F350 or 250 super duty. Why did you choices this model... what makes it better than other... starters?
@@WeMediaProject it fits all 7.3s including excursions. It’s the heavy duty starter that mainly came on 450s and 550s. Bigger motor. Spins a little faster.
What's your opinion on TYC starters? Put one on another vehicle about 6 months before the transmission grenaded on me (4L60E, go figure). Never had any trouble with the starter. Just wanted your thoughts. Plus, they're very reasonably priced.
I just put a new starter on my 01-7.3 , about the fifth time I started it , the starter locked up….. O’Riley Optima warranty replacement looks like the new one you just installed. …. Any insights? What would cause a new starter to burn up so fast. Truck starts fine after wait to start light goes off. This happened to me before about 3 years ago, new Optima starter cranked truck once and burnt up. 🤷🏻
I will replace it again just to make sure. I’m retired electronics mechanic, the solenoid appears to be working properly. I’ve seen my share of weird electrical issues. In the last year I’ve replaced the key switch, ignition switch, starter solenoid and the starter, now it’s the starter again. I’ve been told by salesman that they have had problems 🤷🏻 I think I’ve covered everything, just looking for something I may have missed. Thanks for responding.
@@dannydenham8141 I would look my cables and connections over good also. May have just been made on a Monday or Friday. If it’s workin fine now with no issues maybe don’t sweat it unless it’s sounding weak or giving you any problems.
Haven’t taken this starter back yet to hopefully get another warranty replacement, I’ve been under the weather, I will replace the relay again, the cables all seem fine, the batteries are less than a year old. Maybe starters are just my personal gremlin, this is the fifth O’Rileys Optima in 20 years that I’ve had this truck, glad I got the lifetime warranty.
Hey brotha i litterly just did this today on my 01 excursion. Same oriellys ulitma starter upgrade got me an extra bolt the whole deal. Anyways its just spinning and not hitting the flywheel or something. Any ideas? Thanks

@@AutomedicGarage I'm not sure why but I thought this was a personal use thing. Yes I agree with you.
@@DumbCarGuy yes it was bubbas truck, however it was his choice plus the convenience of if it does go out he can go to any oreillys and grab another.

Looking into them now that you sparked my interest. Thanks and Merry Christmas

Never had an issue with one of them. Have you ruled out your starter solenoid on the fender getting weak?
It’s less than a year old, I replaced it when the last starter died.

Is that the 7.3 turbo diesel?
@@BreakDown1934 yes all powerstrokes are turbo

Why did you change the starter out of curiosity? What was it doing with the old starter?
Just clicking over until I go down there and give her a good tap with a hammer or something. Stock starter over 20 years old
I'm doing this mod tomorrow morning, but the owner said he wants to go to the two bolt starter because it's more powerful. I will see tomorrow.
@@AllanBrogdon 3 bolt is where it’s at
@@AutomedicGarage why does 3 bolt mean more power? does the starter have a different spec than the others?
@ it’s the heavy duty starter that mainly came on the 450s and 550s. Motor is bigger.
