I made this slow compilation from several videos of the Banu Merchantman. The idea was to attach as many visual pieces together for me to get a better look at this ship as a whole. It's a little tricky figuring out what goes where without a little bit more reference, but it was a fun attempt for the time being. I've been waiting for this ship for a really long time, and I genuinely love how it's turning out visually.

The one ship everyone wants and they drag their feet forever. I bought one a while back and I don't think I'll ever see it.
So true man, I think this is one of the ships that has the highest amount of owners but is yet to release, it’s beyond me why they aren’t working on it.
I loved the more rugged capital ship treatment and spikyness of the old design and darker concealed paint (carrying a lot of goods, you want to hide and avoid confrontation if you chose to). More so especially that gridding along the fronts sides.
It is a merchant ship yes, but also in lore they say it can run a blockade with no fear and fight when needed during times of war (it's not a Hull series ship).
I hope it really does get the respawn med bed tier treatment to, this ship is a home for Banu family groups, not just any every day ship.
The new design also makes the BMM look like an Origin ship (I have a 600i Exp' and I loved the 350R when I owned a custom one to).
I do get it being ornate and fancy/ expensive looking due to the nature of the Banu, but.. it looks to "Origin" with all the curves and smoothness.
Even the 890J has a cheese wedge snout! cause capital?
So.. BMM beats an Origin capital for roundness which feels odd because Origin are all about curves and smooth surfaces from what I can tell.
Regardless, this was the ship I wanted most when I started SC and it still is.
Grabbed mine this IAE 2953 and can't wait to see it's final realisation on release.

Also forgot to mention the inside looks great, though I wish the hangar was larger, the BMM is bigger than the 890 Jump and that thing has plenty of hangars.
Maybe the insides will be module some day.. who knows.

@@masteryoda7900 There's more than one way to make spikey.
Having said that, as the current concept sits, it's to round and smooth, it just looks like an Origin which "works better with the Origin ships", that's their thing. If the hull looked more like the Defender with that pattern more across the entire ship, it'd work better tbh.
The original BMM artist really had an awesome vision... Hope they can find some people who will be able to do what that team which hopped ship could not.
I hope they make it like the original concept...sharp and not rounded

@@finch404 That look is long gone. They'll keep this design. The BMM is shelved until people continue to work on it, not reconcept it. People not liking the present look better look for another ship.

With this game, thats a legit concern.
It's a shame its been shelved, but I feel like when they get a new team together for Banu ships, they'll have them build the Triptaker to get them accustomed to the Banu design language so the BMM can be done right.

You're aware that the "triptaker" being done is 100% player invented. CIG never ever spoke of another ship than the Defender and BMM, and for all we know those will be the only two ships of the Banu.

I mean, it’s a trading ship. I’m not really an origin guy myself, but I prefer this way over the edgy warship aesthetic, despite the merchantman’s origins.

What im not getting is each merchantman has 2 defenders as some sort of lore thing. There should be 2 snub docks on the ship for each defender.
i don't think the defenders literally dock to the BMM, they're built to be long range fighters. so they probably just follow it around
@@Birbuciferuh huh.. I don't care if they generate unlimited energy and food and water and can travel to the edge of the universe by themselves. I want snub docks. Theres a big pointless tower sticking out of the rear of the ship which both heavy fighters could wrap their arms around perfectly
what are you talking about? there is 1 hangar inside the BMM that can fit 1 defender

Thank god the idiots who turned the Merchantman from one of the most aggressive looking alien ships in to one of the most goofy looking ones, thank god they went over to that NFT game- god forbid they stayed to ruin even more concept ships
Yeah this thing is so fucking fugly it's insane. Nothing remotely like the concept. The OG concept artists obviously had a different tastes to what CR likes, now every ship need's a spoiler and thin flimsy looking bits all over them.

It's a blockade runner during times of war to and does so with no fear.
It also doubles as a generational home amongst Banu and gets passed down like an heirloom.
So saying it's a merchant ship, is selling it short of what it fully is really, but yeah, Merchant ship is a big part of it, there's no denying that aspect, cause Banu love good business, then again, war is business to.
Iirc they even stole tech from a race by force just because they wanted it.
The Banu are peaceful, but not all of them.
Plus they trade with the Vanduul to so.. shady.

@@三上家 thanks for the info.. I do wish they'd stop introducing new ships and even new game play loops until they get some of this massive back log of pre-sold ships closer to done, if not done. But I'm just one guy.

Kind of glad this didn't come to pass look at all the wasted space. All of that for just a turret station? The bridge is not open as well. I imagine a bridge that is panaramic in nature that you can stand and see all around you. These are star farring traders that would want to be imersed in space not hide from it.
the thing is that the Banu are of a different stature than humans. Therefore humans need modifications like lifts and whatnot to access the stations where the Banu would just be standing (as far as I understood)
There is a lot useless space, and it doesn’t look very appealing, I know it’s grey box but still..they need to restructure the team, a bank ship design team just working on future bank ships..
This music really helps me to get to my acceptance stage of grief that the Scam that is Star Atlas is pretty much the reason I wont see my Banu Merchantman in-game for another 3 years.

I thought they were still working on this, did they pause dev on it after the greybox?
They way I understand it, the the BMM was basically 1 person's project and they got covid'd. Then, the whole team they had picking up the pieces (among other things) suddenly decided to go work for a different company all at once. So there's literally no one left who knows how to work on it.
Besides those designers leaving, they've committed to finish the larger concepts by manufacturer so they could be more efficient. The BMM has no overlap outside of the Defender, so they'll probably get the Earth ships done before tackling the alien backlog. I'm thinking there'll be a medium Banu ship announced that lines up better wth their design language. Then we can get the Gold standard Defender, medium and BMM worked on together
