No no no. The point is that he kept his brother's dream alive even though he knew the truth. If he had told him what he saw then his brother would have lost all of his purpose.
That's it.
What slightly worries me is that this was his brother's dream in the first place. "It's not worth my time if you can't put a bullet in it". Dude.
Because telling someone the truth too soon when they don't want to hear can make them closed off or accept it half-heartedly. For some people it's better to let them find something out themselves because they will learn the lesson better.

If you're a friend and ever worst, family its your duty to tell the true. Not too soon, i may agree. But at the end in the cave that was the moment for sharing the information he has found. Not the time for an other lie, making him a fool when he only trusted his younger brother.. Its seems you cannot trust anyone in this world. They will betray you and then explain it was your fault for been to naive or it was for your own sake.
i like the brother with the feather.he's more of a dreamer and probably just goes on these trips to spend time with his older brother.

Every world needs its legends and monsters. It's a sad world indeed where all the wonders have already been explored.
It's a two edged sword. To hurt his brother now or later. Both decisions will always end up badly. We also face that kind of decisions in our life.
For now, all he want to do is to make his brother happy.

I don't agree with the lying bit. But I think it's more of a "let the older brother figure out its not real on his own" kinda thing.

few minutes yet so many deductions can be made. the most important is about knowledge I guess, one did not merely relay on texts which may be wrong sometimes ,he used his reason and mind to find sth beautiful. yet, knowing his brother would not understand, he thought of consoling him and perhaps use him to discover other things.

People are talking about how the littler one kept the truth in order to give his friend hope that he could succeed in his passion, but I think it's more about how the journey to achieve your goals should be the main focus and that the journey to your success should be fun too.
So he's just going to let his brother search for something that doesn't even exist until he dies a failure.

it's difficult to tell someone to give up but it's also difficult to let them just be and fooled by this belief.

That’s a nice sentiment and all but in real life it’s always the best to tell the truth even if it hurts
The solution isn't really a lie. The "beast" that the brothers were searching for turned out to be what looked like a swarm of fuzz, and it was flying. The smaller brother simply found a way to tell his brother that he would belive, and would also cheer him up.
Honestly, if someone told you that they saw a huge blue wingless beast fly off, would you belive them

Kinda sad, this animation is. His brother lost his will to live because he can't never capture the creature he believe his real. I think his younger brother is a more sane one. Probably he kept following him around to make sure his sanity still intact.

just an odd thing that I noticed - the older hunter was able to eject a modern empty bullet shell like the gun was a modern magazine loaded gun while the appearance of the gun was a very old fashioned muzzled loaded gun. ... well animated and story told otherwise.
@XclericdiscipleX but it is empty hope, it will not take long before he ends up frustrated again, since it does not exist. It might be comforting now but in the long run he might be even more upset (depending on the character of the hunter), especially if he finds out he has been deceived.
Interesting way of following the non-existence creature by collecting its sample.

hope can have substance, especially when the person giving hope has a reputation of coming through when making promises or is genuine when giving hope (i.e. not mixing hope with known lies). Sure, in the end it may not come to pass and yes hope by nature is just an unknown wishing to be truth, but I wasn't really arguing if hope was true. Rather, I was arguing that it was doomed from the start, since the truth is known. Empty in that sense..if i make sense.
@bitterburst the problem is deeper than that. In a way it could be better to let ur friend follow a dream tan to live his life in reality. What is life without a goal and wat do u do wen you find out theres no way to achieve it?

It doesn't particularly mean he agrees with killing the monster if it exists, but I think it's more because it would kill thehopes and dreams of the big guy if he told him the blue hair was from plants. also I don't think you should see it as bad vs good, black vs white, I mean killing animals is bad but who knows maybe he devoted his life for revenge on a creature that killed his family and he doesn't know what it exactly looks like.

It gathered a lot of steam at the beginning of this current century because it was hip and new, but it's starting to lose steam as more people realize that 2D is just as valid.

What was the story of this??? Why did the young guy hand him the gun, I thought he was the good guy because he didn't want to kill the monster? What's going on?? :P
It seems like the creature was just a myth, but he drew wings on it and gave the feather to his brother instead of just killing the older brother's dream by telling him that the creature doesn't really exist.
that problem with truth it would be in your face and you would even know it
hope, truth, lie, reveal... the younger intuitive one made love choice to add wings to misterious animal so quest might continue. we do that all the time with global warming, with a homeless, with religious crisis. i agree that truth should be told,
to those that are willing to get it. to perceive reality big hunter must be prepared for it. but it is a dificult animation to show a small child, because the dilemma presents itself as a lie solution... and i'm not sure this should be taught.

Oh there's plenty of interest in it, just not for American feature films anymore, sadly. (Disney shut down their traditional animation department about a week ago.) To get my fix, I have to look to Europe and Japan these days.
For this to not be concidered manipulation, the big guy has to know he wants to make the journey and is not only after the beast, if the beast was actually important this would be wasting time

Good idea. Lets promote lies and dissimulation. The younger brother doesn't give a good service to his older brother by lying to him and so keeping alive fake ideas. He was about to realise by himself the true. So what the point in keeping him on a wrong direction? Hes not a child he can endure desappointement and then move on to more truest quest. That's part of a journey : mistakes, desappointement. So what? No need to infantilize him. Tell the true about your discovery and find a other real quest. Liars are just cowards. The younger one should have stay at home so the older could have its own true adventure leading to its own true discovery.
