There are hoof pressure washers that are mostly used for horses. Me at the beginning of the video: meh, not that many stones. Me during the middle: thats more stone than a pebble path 😐😐. Great work and love how you explained things
Hi Nate. For all of us lay-people when it comes to hoof maintenance (and you've probably explained this a thousand times so apologies in advance), how on earth do you know when you've cut too deep into the sensitive area? Obviously hooves are like nails on a human with no feeling, but using the human analogy, you eventually get to the quick when it starts to hurt/bleed. How deep is the quick on a cow hoof?
I dont know anything about cows, but i know a lot about nail pains since i bite mine. Once it gets past the white part of the nail it starts hurting, so i'd assume it'd be the same for cows.
I have never worked on a farm. I probably will never work on the farm. My only interaction with cows has been drinking their milk and or eating their meat. My initial reaction to seeing this was “That poor cow is getting his foot cut!” Of course if that were the case, the cow would be resisting a lot more. It’s just fascinating to watch a master of his craft do his thing.
It amazes me how easily he seems to be able to carve away lots of material from their hooves. I can't decide if the tools are just that super sharp or if their hoof material is just way softer than I ever thought it was.
i think it's a mix of both. i spend a lot of time with horses, which do not have the same hooves but they're made of the same stuff. occasionally i see begginers hoofpicking with dull picks and they manage to take a eensy slice off. tldr: dull materials sometimes will cut through hoof in my experience
The exterior of the hoof support the weight and is harder, the interior acts as a cushion and is softer. Cows didn't evolve to walk on concrete and that's why they need so much care.
That had to be painful to walk on ... poor baby ... Great job again Nate! I am in Indiana and would like to ride my bike up to see you. And meet you. You are such a good teacher!

Yeah, I've seen other farriers just absolutely hack away at the horn until the lesion is bleeding like crazy. I found this guy and always thought he does a better job.

So things like that, as you mentioned make me realise even more how important it is that our government should support us here in the UK, rather than letting businesses go under and the industry suffer.
It varies but you can tell by color and consistency and when it comes to problems you can tell by the separation.
I dont know anything about cows, but i know a lot about nail pains since i bite mine. Once it gets past the white part of the nail it starts hurting, so i'd assume it'd be the same for cows.
I’m a carpenter but with the amount of these videos I’ve seen and the things I’ve learned I might be able to do it in a last ditch effort :D
I like the ending, seeing the cows eating.
Pressure wash it wow 2000 to 6000 psi could do some real damage like cut into live tissue
How long does it take for the hoof to rebuild itself?
Good question
Usually 6-8 weeks for the cow to fully regrow the sole's thickness
On another vid they said it takes months.
All jokes aside I actually thought they took the hoof off and remade like the horse shoe
Another video said it takes 11 months
Wow ! Thank you for showing close up & I feel relief just seeing her hoof ! I know she appreciates you ♥️~~
Hello👋 Stacey. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Zack Hudson and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
The most satisfying part of that process was spraying the disinfectant.
I started watching one of these, and now im 7 of his videos deep, i think my ancestors did this, thanks for posting
I love watching them take a few steps and realizing they're not in pain anymore. You clearly love these animals and take amazing care of them. ❤️
Don’t own cows, never have, and probably never will. But this was really interesting to watch.
A good hoof man is a valuable phone number in the directory of any farmer.
That had to be painful to walk on ... poor baby ...
Great job again Nate!
I am in Indiana and would like to ride my bike up to see you. And meet you. You are such a good teacher!
Very satisfying - I can't walk a step with a tiny little stone in my shoe, so I imagine this must hurt so much - well done for making her comfy.
I'm just clinching my ass here worried that you'll cut too deep. Only few movies manage to keep me on the edge of my seat like this
If I would have not seen your videos I'd have never known such problems exists and guys like you work so hard to give relief to animals.
Love u man so much for doing this work. ❤️
Love from India 🇮🇳.
Holsteins r cute ☺️
God Loves you repent and trust in Jesus before its too late Romans 10:9 if you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead you will be saved.

Wow. I didn't know that wil's watching this too! Hahahaha.
Hahaha hi po kuya wil
Hi idol
I don’t even farm anymore and still love watching these lol.
Dear person that’s reading this’ we don’t know each others but i wish I wish you all the best in life ❤️
Don’t ever blame yourself, accept things and go
forward. Your smile is precious and a key for happy life.
I believe in you, Love from a small UA-camr!🖤
Thanks so much for your blessings. I do so appreciate it. Thanks Debbie.
What a sweet comment. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏, you made me smile, I wish you all the best , have a wonderful life
Back atcha!
Thank you so much! The same goes for you too!
I enjoy Nate's stuff a lot, there's something about his process that is more gentle and careful than other farrier's I've seen with UA-cam channels. Also loved being sniffed at the end lol
Yeah, I've seen other farriers just absolutely hack away at the horn until the lesion is bleeding like crazy. I mean, I'm not a farrier myself so I'm not as knowledgeable, but I thought that only new tissue really bleeds, and the point was to reduce trauma to forming tissue. I found this guy and always thought he does a better job.
@@AccidentallyOnPurpose dude exactly! I find they bs it away saying it isn't live tissue too (even though the cows are shuffling or making distressed sounds) nate is hands down the most careful guy I've seen by far and if he ever does nick the skin he admits to it at least
Another good channel to watch is the Hoof GP, he a Scottish hoof trimmer and he takes such good care of all the cows he trims
As much of the antiseptic spray that you use, I think you should keep it in a garden sprayer. Thank you for taking such good and gentle care of these ladies feet
Good grief, she must have been in agony! Great job - as she walked out it looked as if she could hardly believe that the pain had subsided. I'd never seen a hoof with all those pockets before. The big guy at the start was a handsome chap for sure, but he was definitely giving you "the look"!
They always do. 😉
Hello Yvonne how are you doing today.
I'm addicted to these. What is your training or educational background?
I don’t know why these videos are so satisfying to watch…
She's like "I feel so much better... Time to stuff my face."... Said so many other women lolll ✋🏻.
Seriously though, I can only fathom the discomfort & pain that's felt with so much weight & pressure being put on this. Poor babies!
I have no clue how this got added to my recommendations but that was very fascinating to watch. You look like a master of your craft and I'm sure the cow felt so much better after.
Also, I think you have fantastic narration, very easy to listen to.
You a good man thanks that you care of the cowes
I swear it looks like you’re peeling a potato. This is Pretty cool stuff man. Glad to see the level of care you provide to these beautiful and essential creatures.
I'm glad to know that animal welfare information from the UK is useful! I've worked a bit in agriculture on and off over the past few years and the lack of support from our government to the industry is appalling, with many of cow farms going out of business. I think the government take them for granted. So things like that, as you mentioned make me realise even more how important it is that our government should support us here in the UK, rather than letting businesses go under and the industry suffer.
Edit: We tend to use Iodine solution quite a lot here in the UK as an antiseptic.
I've just discovered your videos, but I like them! Good stuff
It's odd, why the hell I'm watching cow pedicures for whole week, i don't even have a cow. LoL 😅
The lack of background music in his videos, and I think it’s great without it because it makes it easier to watch what is going on and also makes it less distracting
Yeah, besides no music…also, no videos in his house, talking about his coffee, looking at his new equipment, drone footage of the landscape where he lives, joking around/making skits with his helper…makes it all easier to watch. That’s why I no longer watch Hoof GP. He got too much into production/other crap & I found myself fast-forwarding through the majority of each of his videos. I just want to watch hoof trimming…not waste my time watching everything else besides hoof trimming.
Hello Lori how are you doing today.
Fun fact: the way we find this guy channel is proving we don't know we need something when we do.
I’m glad you talk pretty slowly. I can watch at 2x speed and still understand you
Heck, I am a fan of the Hoof GP already, and if this wasn‘t enough, I like the way how this man here works - great, sensitive craftsmanship, well explained. Complements over the pond!
I've looked at hispage. All of his videos look a little... clickbaity, I guess? Doesn't give off the same vibe as Nate here
@@atrane365 give some of his videos a try. Hes actually a super genuine person and down to earth. It's never clickbait, and always shows exactly as promised 😊
I don’t know how these cow podiatry appointments wind up in my recommended, but boy am I glad they did. I’d like to think the cow being treated felt that final stone come out and was probably like “wow this pedicure really hit the spot!”
This is so satisfying, I cant lie and its indeed a kind thing to do, to help the animals out. 😂
Love how much this guy cares for his animals
so I was thinking that when you remove stones you would need to sharpen the hoof knife.
Extremely satisfying to watch.
Who else feels like that shit hurts even though it probably doesn’t when he scrapes the hoof off lol
I worry about the foot bending up and down
I'd imagine it's like trimming your nails to a point, and this is just like pulling something out that is stuck in the nail. it's probably far more painful for the stones to stay in than for them to be dug out.
I do 🤣🤣
I’m just surprised how farmers don’t check on their animals as often bc this looks like it has over 6months
It does look extremely painful, even though someone here said, that it's basically like cutting a nail.
The white inside reminds me of a coconut, especially when you carve deep into it 😅
I appreciate how you take your time with the treatment, and appreciate as well the farmers who look after their cows so well by providing good hoof care.
Definitely have to let her get back to her day. She still has a lot of work to do: making phone calls, answering e-mails, sending out invoices, taking her lunch break, engaging in some water cooler chat and gossiping, etc.
Delaying her any further would be beyond the pail.
Thanks for helping them blessed cute cows
Who’d of thought watching cows get their feet trimmed would be so enjoyable. This guy and the hoof gp are my fave channels.
Yesss!
Who would have thought
Who'd have thought
Who'd've thought
But never who would *of* thought. This is what results from knowing the sound of the words and not being taught the words themselves. 🤷🏻♂️
@@JerGol oh no! Guess I should OF listened more in school 25 years ago!
@@bvbinsane1vanity school is lame. I did all my schooling in Vietnam and I turned out ok. Those little Viet villages didn't turn out so good. Potato tomato as they say.
This is my first video I've seen of Nate. Until now I've only watched the hoof gp, but Nate seems good too
I went from pimple poppers to cow hoof treatments and I cannot find the urge to stop watching.
She was saying thank you. ❤
I luv that close up of her snout! 🐮 she’s feeling a lot better now! 👍
I really appreciate seeing a hoof guy wrap the feet to protect them even the smallest amount he can. It feels like extra care that people don't take.
It is.
You’re the best NATE! The girls told me. Your fan!
I’m always so concerned about how deep you can go on a hoof before you essentially hit the “quick”.
Is it something that you just know by practice or is there a visual cue in the hoof itself?
You can see about where to stop
@@misty_radio4958 ah cool
Both
@@NatetheHoofGuy Neat, thank you!
You are amazing. Precise, gentle, and deliberate with your moves. As to the thought of a pressure washer to remove stones, would that not be uncomfortable for the cow? I have limited experience with horses feet. I would not think of that being a good idea because you would be forcing water into who knows what beneath what you see on the surface, thus your controlled removal approach.
Yes, pressure washers shouldn’t be used near living tissue! You said just what I was thinking!
Your work is amazing!
The Cow's must really love you!!
