Reminds me of a UK newspaper editorial from the late 19th century I came across once. It was in the Guardian (then called the Manchester Guardian), a newspaper that has been considered on the liberal and slightly progressive side of politics since its inception.
It was about knife violence among young people in Manchester. It started off very sympathetic. Stuff like (not at all direct quotes but it gets the vibe): 'These children need help. We shouldn't be imprisoning them, that only leads them into a life of further crime' and then ... 'a more appropriate rehabilitative sentence would be to simply have them flogged and sent home.'

You pick the party based on the politics you prefer, not picking your politics based on the party you prefer. The "party" is actually the body of representatives, the "block" is the actual voters. The current RNC voting block is mostly led by jilted classical liberals tired of the hyper-communist BS of the DNC party, especially here on UA-cam (Arch, RTV, America/China Uncovered/Uncensored, Clownfish, Quartering, Optimus, Among many, many others). They went with the RNC because that's what the RNC party chose to cater towards, because they saw the DNC casually discarding one of the largest current voting blocks in America like idiots.
I fully admit I'm among the crowd of ClasLibs, though I was among the first that switched. I saw Obama earning the chamber maid's displeasure not even a week into the job and got the heck out of dodge. I did not vote for handing ISIS America's most valuable and famous strike team on a silver platter and letting them die like nobodies, and I still think Obama should be hung on treason for that brutal mistake alone.
