Essentials 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (pulling the multiple 6 packs of Budwiser out of the cooler). No "weird" in this content whatsoever. A great walk through a historic event that you can tie to your own adventures. I would love more of this from your channel. I also remember the Mt St Helens eruption well. I was living on the east coast at the time. It also spurred future adventure for me, driving me west throughout my life and going up Mount Baker, Mount Robson and others. I was not a mountain climber by any stretch of the imagination and didn't officially summit any moutains, but did get a chance to explore their upper reaches and surrounding areas. I always find it amazing how we think we have had a boring life, and then pull out boxes of photos to go through the adventures. Hopefully I still have a few virtual photo boxes to fill. Thanks for the inspiration! Where's my camera, gotta get out there this long weekend 😀

Thanks Daren! Baker was arguably the beginning of the big glaciated peaks I climbed and certainly my first volcano. I returned several times, teaching a mountaineering class there (with an ascent as the, er, icing on the cake). Finally, telemark skied from the summit in the best and longest ski run of my life! By comparison, my life might be said to be boring now but the memories are vivid. Getting out with a camera is always a new adventure.

The photographic journey. Almost 35yrs ago I got off a plane in Asia for the first time. Right now I'm watching from my apartment the early morning sun rising over Bangkok. This city alone keeps the fire going, always exciting, always new, exhilarating experiences - just grab your camera and dive into it!
There was a vulcano along the way to, Mt. Mayon in the Philippines. Managed to get to the top in the 90ies, dunno if it's still possible with its frequent eruptions. I remember one of these, me hurriedly heading for the area from Manila to get some eruption images. The night I spend in the bus Mayon was still spewing fire. From then on I sat on the rooftop of my hotel, tripod, camera, night after night for almost a week. I only ever saw a bit of crater glow and some ash clouds during the day. Never mind, I too had my 'provisions' up there on that rooftop! 😊

Love this video Ray, how you have entwined parts of your history and this massive volcanic event. Also lovely seeing the 16mm film. Is that you getting a beer out of the fridge?

Glad you liked it Matt. The Bud fan is my late great bud Tom, AKA Kapitan.
