- Well... does it work?
Today I'm reviewing and testing out the (hard to find) Zep Grout Cleaner & Brightener. Follow along to see the process in action and to hear my genuine review on if it works and if it's worth it.
Thank you for watching and for the support!

This stuff made a world of difference on our grout…..we left it on for 3 minutes and then scrubbed it with a grout brush. It also works well if you use one of those green scrubby things you use on pots and pans and then wipe the grout line with a good quality microfiber cloth. 😎
The instructions clearly state to do twice “if” necessary. It worked on my tile perfectly. Plus I left mine on for 20 minutes. As you know grout is basically colored concrete. Your right about cleaning it two or three times a year. I got mine at Walmart for $7. Thanks for your review.
I've been watching a few videos and one of them mentioned about sealing the grout. As it turns out, after installing tiles, the tiler should use a product to seal the grout so it doesn't..I guess..absorb the dirt to where it becomes unrecoverable. SO, the other video I watched suggested (if you're really into keeping your grout clean) to seal it after the major clean (with Zep or Borax or whatever product). Of course, let it thoroughly dry..like at least 24 hours after cleaning before sealing. So, I'm off to do my Mexican apartment floors incorporating your video and the others. Thanks! Worth the research!
Can’t believe your video was posted 2 years ago lol I literally just saw a tiktok video about it (July 2024) and bought the product the following day😂haven’t tested it but I’m planning today.
I recently did regrouting of my bathrom and the tiler suggsted to use Zep. I saw multiple videos but this is the best. The most impotant takeaway for me is that Zep can be used sparringly like once or twice a year. As my grout is new, I find this very useful in my situation. So, I used my Dyson to cleanse the dust particles and hairs from groutlines/floor and then used water/paper to do wiping out manually. It is looking great!
Like you said, the girl in the video had pretty new tile/grout. It also appears she had white floor grout.
Typically floors are done with a tan or grey. My bathroom has grey on the floor and white on the walls.
I don't have too much to clean, just certain spots. I'll give it a try.
(If I remember to, I'll give you an update 👍)
Maybe your grout is just normally tan colored. It says that it won't change the color of the grout. To change the color I would suggest a grout pen.
I read a lot of reviews and they said to leave it on for upto 20min. I wonder if that will make a difference. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
Hi Mary, thank you for sharing. I’ll give it extra time next go around. Thanks!
I used a gel toilet bowl cleaner. It works beautifully. The grout was old and deep brown to black color, from years of dirt. The end results were amazing! Looked like brand new grout.....stains are gone, and pure white.
How has the grout done since using the toilet bowl cleaner? I started using this but I’m afraid with time it will deteriorate.
Toilet bowl cleaner, which contains bleach, is bad for the grout. I've read so many times that bleach / vinegar deteriorate grout. I tried toilet bowl cleaner on a small part of the grout. The grout actually CHIPPED! 😮
Thank you 🥰
Your floor was really stained. It would require at least a second cleaning. I have used this product for many years on my white tile/grout kitchen floor. It comes right back to looking new. I also highly recommend using gloves and not wiping it up with bare hands and a paper towel because the main ingredient is hydrochloric acid. I also protect my eyes with safety glasses. I bought a stiff slim grout brush with an extension handle, from Amazon, that works great. Be safe!
I could see the difference!👍🏿
Would it screw up my stained concrete floors ?
i bought a brand new home. i did not know the floors were not sealed. After driving for many hours moving out of state my dog decided to pee on the tile. No matter what cleaner including zep i couldnt remove the stains. I honestly havent been impressed with the grout cleaners out there. I hired stainly streamer to come clean and seal the grout. You are suppose to seal your grout once a year. I guess i heard that most builders dont even grout seal your tiled showers. Just to keep in mind for people buying new houses.
Can I just pour this on my kitchen tile and Mop it up with warm water?
Professional tile cleaner here
The number on thing in cleaning grout
Sealer!
All Grouted tile is supposed to sealed with a sealer
What usually happens
The grout appears dirty and it is the sealer that has taken the damage and dirt - which is what it is supposed to do
You strip the sealer off and the dirt comes with it. Then you reseal for the sealer to protect the very porous grout. It fills in all the small holes in grout
The sealer then does it’s job and takes all the dirt and mold and strips off when you use the next hard acid.
But what happens is
First person strips the grout - “ah beautiful” and doesn’t know to reseal it.
Now the dirt and mold goes in the grout not the sealer, staining the grout, and it is almost and sometimes impossible to u stain the grout once it is stained
Her video - new tile, sealed after installation. She stripped the sealer off and I hope she sealed it
You were more than likely cleaning unsealed grout.
@wormy weasel do you have to let it dry for any amount of time after you scrub unsealed grout before you seal it? and do you have to reseal after every time you clean and scrub it??
Mine is probably too dirty. It came out a little bit but it wasn’t a lot.
Were you worried at all about george walking on it or breathing it in? I want to do it in my kitchen but I can’t close a door to keep me cats out
That is a great question and a genuine concern. She doesn't go into the bathroom so I wasn't worried, but for something like a kitchen where there is no door, perhaps putting the cat in another room with the door closed while it is soaking and after you clean it, you can let me out? Someone suggested leaving it on for 20 mins and then after that you could take some soapy water to remove the chemicals left behind. Should be safe then.
Great job.
I liked your Video because of George ❤😂.
This stuff worked great but a little splashed on my face and burnt my skin so bad. I am still dealing with this burn and its been 2 months. WEAR PPE AND LONG SLEEVES AND PANTS!!
Did you let it sit 3mins?
Used this for years in apt cleaning make sure wash off good or floor will be sticky also don’t use hot water use cold to rinse.
Mine’s sticky what do I use to get it up
@@brandi5730 clean cold water not warm or hot
Please try vinegar( half vinegar half water ) and a good brush .
I use this on my floors. But I use a toothbrush. It works great on my floors
That's a good idea!
you must have slaves... Use a drill and a brush attachement.
@@alexcordero6672 really? No slaves I’m just a very clean person. And I do have a drill and brush attachments but the toothbrush gets between better. But that slave comment is very ignorant on your part so you know I am married to a beautiful black man and have a beautiful half black daughter so please don’t make those comments.
@@nikolehall1981 omg. I’m sorry. Slaves came in all sorts of colors. Read history
@@alexcordero6672 You are right...actually the word slave itself (according to google): "The term slave has its origins in the word slav. The slavs, who inhabited a large part of Eastern Europe, were taken as slaves by the Muslims of Spain during the ninth century AD." Slaves as you said have been all kinds of different races throughout history. (For those who get offended easily, it's good to learn these things).
You didn't use the same exact product as the tiktok user. She used the Zep Grout Cleaner and WHITENER. You used Grout Clean and Brightener. You can tell by the color of the bottle. The WHITENER one works 1000x better and just like she showed. My home 120years old, so trust me I know set in stains.
Same product. They just renamed it "brightener." Only sellers of "whitener" now are obscure places selling old stock.
Regular toilet bowl cleaner does the job, just let it sit for a minute or two, literally a minute or two, that’s all it takes, no scrubbing either just wipe off.
I saw that on a video i tried it but i think i missed a step to make it stay can you please share advice
I used it, wasn't exactly happy!
This stuff made my grout turn orange will not be using it again.
doing this in bare hands is giving me anxiety
Hehehe and she lied saying "I had to use gloves" ... I was also anxious about that..
Our floors feel oily even after wiping it up lol
Oh no really? I feel like mine wiped up nice but hopefully your floors aren't slippery, cause that's just an accident waiting to happen lol.
What I do is add some Dawn & a tide pod to the mop bucket w/ hot water the the first one then I go back in with just a tide pod & hot water
You have to rise, read the instructions
Works well. Just be careful. It will destroy chrome fixtures within ten seconds. Cover them with a bag and tape it off!
She has the word "Fate " tatooed on her wrist so I know it's gonna work.
Where are your gloves!!
Only menrads. Sells it
Home Depot sells it
total waste of time for me. Did nothing
