    So many great tips in these few minutes. I've been an Excel user for many years and your tutorials have really shown me the power of Numbers. I'll be watching this video many times. Thanks for adding the spreadsheet examples. Your Patreon subscription is the best value I've found on the internet.

    11:50 - you can also drag all those quick formulae and drop them into a cell, saving the need to even type the function. Great tips. Even as a power user I learn something new! Love it.

    I'm building a stock calculator. I'm stuck on building a trailing stop. Basically I need it to look at a start date, and as time goes forward to today and return the highest close of the stock. I need it to return to me the highest it goes and if the number goes down to only give me the highest number. Great video by the way, Thanks if you have some insight on how to build this

      You'd need to constantly record data then. Sounds like you want some sort of service that provides this, not a spreadsheet.

    Very useful thanks. I found out the transpose and custom formats are not available for shared sheets for some reason (greyed out). The workaround is to move the file to the desktop, make the change and then move it back again.Bummer!

    Gary, I appreciate your videos, thank you so much for producing them. Q: When I add rows or columns, how do I get the adjacent formula(s) to automatically update and include the data?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 роки тому

      That depends on how you set up your tables. For instance, you could have a function like SUM total a column (B) instead of a range (B2:B40) so that it always includes all non-header/footer rows in that column.

    wow Gary that was awesome. Question: I'd like the date to appear in the row when I type something in a cell in that row. Do I use an IF statement or is there another way?
    OH, figured it out used; IF b5 < 4,"",NOW

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 роки тому

      No, there's really no good way to do that. NOW will always update to the current time. You have to type the date when you enter the other data, or use Insert, Date.

    Hi Gary I am new to Numbers and your videos and have a question if I may ask. I have been tasked with creating a train timetable for an amateur railway society. They want to see trains departing, say every 10 minutes from stations along the line, through the day, but I need a quicker way to repeat the times, rather than adding all the the times manually for each station.
    Can you please show me the formula to use and how this could be done?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому

      Just a column with times like 12:10, 12:20, etc? You don't need a formula for that. Just use autofill. Put the first two, and then autofill. See ua-cam.com/video/ygVZYEwIIjE/v-deo.html

    Do you know how to make numbers stop shrinking? How do you make it stop that? It seems to do that if I double tap on it, or accidentally tap, it will shrink so tiny I can't read it. Then it's difficult to enlarge it again. It didn't use to do that.

    • @macmost

    • @cabijista1
      @cabijista1 Рік тому

      @@macmost ok, what my actual goal is is to somehow make a “random button” for a pop up list, so i could press the button and a random item in a pop up menu would be displayed. I was thinking this might be possible with some outside thinking with the choose function?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому

      @@cabijista1 Sure, you can do that. Just put a RANDBETWEEN function inside the CHOOSE function. Then when you change some value in the document (like a simple checkbox in a cell that the switch on or off) the RANDBETWEEN changes and the CHOOSE function picks another value.

    Why is Apple still committed to Numbers? Doesn't Excel do all the same things, if not more with greater portability?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 роки тому

      Numbers does some things Excel does not, like multiple tables per sheet. Excel isn't free. What's wrong with some competition?

    • @michaelhart8257
      @michaelhart8257 3 роки тому

      @@macmost What's wrong with it is that it's hogging resources, particularly hard disk space for end users and money and time for Apple (to pay developers and testers). Numbers is not a portable software, Excel is. I live in the Apple environment: iphone, iPad Pro, iMac, Macbook Pro. They all come with Numbers hogging the storage space. (Same for Keynote and Pages). I cannot use Numbers because virtually no one else is using them.

      @@macmost what i know and learnt is not to waste time on running MS Software on my Mac. It gives me peace of mind. Enough articles are available on these. Gary, you are making my goal using Mac software on Mac very easy....Thank you.,

      @@lucasmuller4557 How do you collaborate with people who use PCs and therefore Microsoft Office? Almost all of my colleagues have PCs and Microsoft Office, almost none of them have any Mac products and so they do not use Numbers (nor Keynote, nor Pages). I cannot send them any Numbers, Keynote or Pages files because they cannot open them. And conversely, when they send me any files, they are in Excel, PowerPoint or Word. So I need to have MS Office to open them. And if I need to have MS Office, then what is the point of having my computer resources loaded with resource-gobbling software like Numbers, Keynote and Pages?
