- Here's an F1 onboard lap at Old Hockenheim in Germany, driving in Assetto Corsa with Kimi Raikkonen in his F1 2020 Alfa Romeo (RSS Formula Hybrid 2020).
I drove a lap around the old Hockenheimring circuit that was used in Formula between 1965 - 2001, before it was redesigned in 2002 as the track we see today.
The track consists of multiple straights going through the forest area, it's a fun track to drive on and a bit of a challenge as you really have to brake hard before each of the turns after the straights.

I wish F1 games had different configurations of each track.
Yeah really wish they did, or have tracks that have been in the calendar in the last decade at least. Licensing issues probably don't allow that, which is a shame

@@johnpaularibowo1636technically it isn’t as the old hockenheim didn’t have the chicanes. They were added after the tragic death of Jim Clark in 1968 and then they added a chicane at the oustkurve after a crash there killed another driver in 1982. This chicane became the second and the original second chicane (named after Senna after his death) became the third chicane. And even before that before the track took the shape we know today before the 2002 rebuild it was 12km long and had a triangular shape.
Shame what they done to the old circuit, they could maintain it and use for other categories of motorsport, at least the new circuit it's good

I miss the old Hockenhiem. The long straightaways, the speeds they reach and the awesome layout of the track are all the matter the best Hockenhiem ring yet. I wish that section of the track was never left in the wilderness where the grass grew over the racing surface and remained open to the world of F1 and beyond the world of motorsport racing.
I'm pretty sure there's no racing surface anymore, they just destroyed it and planted trees over it
You would setup the car to go much faster than 334 km/h on the straights, even in 1995-1996 with the ~700 hp engines they approached 350 km/h.

2001 spec cars hit close to 360 km/h and 1'38 laptimes.
Imagine 2005 spec cars, which I believe, are the most powerful.

And it was a stunning circuit! A very unfortunate loss, they could have at least kept the old sections as paths for a park and/or natural reserve in the sorrounding forest... But it actually seems everyone was too shortsighted to be able reaching such an agreement.

I'm taking a small break from practicing this track, and was curious to see the old layout.
About 5 seconds after turn 1, I was completely and hopelessly lost as to where the car was on the track.
MAJOR changes to this one's layout.
It would be nice to seeing a lap without the three chicanes. It’ll be interesting to see if the 2020 cars can take the Sudkurve (where the second chicane was) without lifting the acceleration pedal.
Not so interested in "without any chicanes" (bit boring tbh) but the 1970-81 (70-01 for motorbikes) layout, with no Ostkurve chicane (a chicane was first installed in 82, then changed in 92) and with the other two chicanes untightened (the first chicane was slowed in 82, the second chicane in 94) would be brilliant.

Its appalling that they completely covered it in grass. Why couldnt they just keep it like they keep the old oval at Monza
Because they cut down some trees to make the new parts, which they plant back more trees in the old layout

*starts crying* I LOVE this layout, I despise the new one, someone please explain why the idiots involved remade the german gp to what it is now, and can someone go teach the idiots who thought that the track needed to be shortened a lesson in classic speed track preservation.
Well if you think about why they removed it it makes sense. It is now gone because throughout the entire forest section there no stands, meaning the fans couldn’t see the cars. They shortened it so the fans could see the cars more which means more money for F1.
So..... When are you going to teach the people responsible for the new layout a lesson on track preservation? Don't forget to record the whole discussion, should make for good quarantine content. Also don't forget to point and wag your finger across their faces to further prove your point.

Ngl this layout is really overrated like yeah ik its classic, but the layout is really boring, i prefer the new one tbh and tbh, the new one is much better and the new Hockenheim is on my top 10 favorite track list, the old layout is on my worst track list
