I loved this book. Happy to see you did too! I’m also glad that I read this before people started trashing it so I didn’t get my thoughts tainted before reading it. Very bittersweet that it’s over for now.
I feel strained on my opinion, I understand why some others might appreciate but I honestly do think it was such a step down from other entries, and continuing the trend we saw before
First off, I love your style of reviews! So unique. I also loved your specific review of this book. Focused on the things that were great and incredible, while also sharing the things that were not perfect, but not letting that dominate the review. It seems like the popular thing, especially on UA-cam, for this book is to hyper-focus on the imperfections of the book and then lose sight of all the incredible aspects of this book. None of the Stormlight books have been perfect, and there are specific aspects of them that most people agree could have been better, and Wind and Truth is no different, but for some reason everyone is acting like its a dumpster fire compared to the other books. This was a satisfying conclusion to an incredible series, imperfections notwithstanding!
I finished it last night. Accidentally stayed up until 5am. Literally watched all your other Sanderson videos on Thursday, so the timing is great. I would agree with the general consensus on it being the weakest Stormlight book, but I am still not disappointed. It had many flaws, but it is still good.
Couldn’t even resist watching your video until reading the book myself haha. You have such feel good videos, as always, and love your appreciation of the subtle aesthetics of the book edition
Our thoughts are pretty much the same, and I'm really happy to hear that you loved the book. Overall, this was my second favourite book in the series As for what you should do while waiting for Book 6- if you want to continue with Sanderson, I definitely recommend Mistborn. It's not as good as Stormlight but it's still great. If you want a break from Sanderson- I would love to hear your thoughts on The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercombie.
Thank you so much for the suggestions. I’m excited to get started with mistborn but I have heard great things about Joe Abercombie so maybe I will read that next. What’s it about?
@@PeterOlszewski The First Law is one of my favourite trilogies of all time and one of the main POV characters, Glokta, is one of the best fictional characters period. To put in layman's terms, it's a more lightweight Game Of Thrones, with less characters and plotlines, but nonetheless super intriguing plots that intersect with one another in ways you do not see coming and characters you just can't wait to see interact and see how the meetings affect the greater story and politics of the world. Great read all around!
hello peter! happy new year and i hope you enjoyed christmas with your loved ones. i loved the review on winds and truth, also i did spot fire and blood so i’m hyped if you are thinking of picking it up. hope you are doing great as always mate, much love :)
If you ever wanna get into other genres, I recommend the Red Rising Saga! I’m on the fourth book so far and it’s a true joy to read, having the best time!
The book touches on betrayal, found family, politics, intricate battle scenes and a rebellion rising to the top of the society. The character work and dialogue are one of my favorite aspects of the series, but the tribulations and countless sacrifices they must take to achieve their goal is a crucial part of the story and has you wondering… is what they’re achieving really worth it? (No spoilers): We follow Darrow of Lykos a 16-year-old miner whose people has been enslaved for centuries. A major event sometime in the first book causes a drastic shift in the story and will cause him to do the impossible. It’s set in a dystopian future version of our solar system where humans are genetically modified depending on what color they fall into. At this point in time people have immigrated to all the moons and rocky planets of the solar system. Darrow’s main goal is to break the society and “live for more”. First book is good but nothing compared to book 2 and 3 in the original trilogy. I hope you consider this! Especially now that you have caught up in SA. Happy reading my friend!
I loved the book, the lore got exciting for me but I do think a similar interlude book could have really helped to cut down for those who don’t like it. Overall maybe needs a better edit but I was sitting on a plane reading this book and cheering when certain parts happened and trying to be quiet. My main complaint is that it feels like to fully get everything, you more and more likely will need to be all in on the entire cosmere and his other books as a whole. While you can get through it and have a great time, a lot to me is gonna be lost on those who don’t read everything he puts out. To me it’s a fitting end to the first arc, but it will be a long wait. Im hoping the break gets Sanderson time to re focus in on editing and pacing but there hasn’t been a bad book yet and the stakes have been raised every time. Appreciate the video as always and excited to see what you read next!
Thank you so much for the comment! I really appreciate your support on the channel! I 100% agree with you. I don’t get why Wind and Truth is getting so much hate. I think it still feels very true to Sanderson writing and story telling and is all around a great book to read.
I’d been waiting for your reaction video and vlog! It’s so much fun, especially with the book shop visits and cafe hangouts. I’m glad you liked the book! I think we’re pretty much on the same page. What are you supposed to read until 2031? Have you read Mistborn? Brandon is planning to write the next Mistborn series (2 are already complete) and 2 sequels to Elantris next! With a Rock novella called Horneater in there somewhere as well. Also, another Cosmere standalone (Isles of the Emberdark) will release next year! Have you read Tress of the Emerald Sea, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter and The Sunlit Man yet?
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! I have only read the Stormlight archive and I just started Elantris, which is great so far! I didn’t know all that about the other books being released. Thank you for filling me in. I plan on reading mistborn soon but I’m going to take a short break and try some other series like wheel of time.

Yeah, sometimes, a palate cleanser is a good idea! There’s a lot of great books out there. And when you get back to Brandon, there’s still a lot left to read! Even within the Cosmere, Mistborn is currently 7 books and change, and you’ll have 4 standalone novels. Maybe 5 if he also finishes White Sand within the next couple of years. Even if Brandon steps away from Stormlight for a bit, you can be sure that he’ll continue publishing books at an unreasonable pace! Edit: Isles of the Emberdark releases this year! Hey I’ve been a fan of your channel for awhile now and I was wondering if you do paid sponsorships? And if you do what’s the best way to reach you about setting it up?
In a previous video you mentioned you take notes when you read. How do you do this effectively? I suppose it depends on the complexity of the book but yea ~ curious.
It’s a little more difficult for Stormlight because a lot of the story is very intricate. If I wrote down everything my review would feel very dense. In any other book when there is an important plot detail I write it down then after a chapter or part I write what I thought about it but for Stormlight I summarize it by key events in the part and then I review how I feel about the story as a whole at the end.
14 is the perfect age to get into Sanderson IMO. He writes for all ages, nothing overly graphic. I'd say if you're allowed to watch the Lord of the Rings, then you can handle Stormlight.
Brandon Sanderson fan till I die but I can’t get into this series 😂, friends and family tell me how good it is but I can’t get past first few chapters of first book 😂
The first book definitely starts slow, but because you spend so much time with the characters, Stormlight is able to achieve the highest highs of anything in the Cosmere; and this is coming from someone who still has Mistborn Era 1 as my favorite series in the Cosmere.
The longer I wait to read the series, the more I don’t want to. Seems like at this point its just a flex to be able to write such a long series and each book bigger and bigger.
Such a minor thing! Yeah there was about 50 rather jarring moments or so where the jokes or language was just that bad, where it was cringy and took you out of it.... But this book was ginormous! So much awesome s*** happened! So much plot and great character moments! Many people are going to realize this book is a lot better than initially might have thought it was... So much of that has to do with expectations and attachments. It's not a perfect book. But it's a very good cosmere book. In many ways it's more of a setup than a conclusion though. I really enjoy Roshar and these characters.... This book was a very entertaining part of the ride!
I did missed the mass paperback. 🥲 They were so much easier to hold and transport. The hardcover was great because there is so much care in the aesthetic and art!
@ On a side note, how do you not get burnt out when reading the same author?! I finished all 7 Mistborn books and all the side stories and 2 of the secret projects and now got burnt out with Sanderson books for at least 4 months 😭
@ In all honesty I think having a goal to read Wind and Truth when it released helped me to not get burnt out. I think otherwise I would have taken longer breaks between reading each book. I did take a couple week break after reading way of kings and read some short novels though.
This book was a huge disappointment 😞 It needs a real editor, not fanboy betareaders, hes gotta slow down the writing pace cause his prose is suffering, and like 75% of this book pauses the story during the climax to do my least fav trope, hallucinatory dreamscape transformative journey
Right now I would rank them: 1. OathBringer 2.Words of Radiance 3.Way of Kings 4. Wind and Truth 5.Rhythm of War My ranking may change with rereads though but in all honesty they are all great books!
@@PeterOlszewski Why Rhythm of War last? I'm only now finding out it was almost as equally controversial with people--I left after enjoying Oathbringer and didn't touch the Cosmere until reading RoW just this year. Maybe it's recency bias, but it's my favorite of the 5, so I'm curious why people didn't enjoy or like it.
@ Yeah it does get some hate but it is still a great book. I just think his other books are masterpieces and that makes it hard to live up to. The only issues I had was I just felt like the pacing didn’t resonate well with me. Could have been a result of reading the second and third books back to back before reading Rhythm of War. I feel like it was a bit overindulgent in certain magic mechanics at points and side lines plot development for new concepts, that prepared for wind and truth. I also felt like some plot lines were repetitive specifically the tower storyline and Kaladin‘s character felt like it went nowhere. With this all being said it had some great twists and I think at times it doesn’t get the credit that it deserves. It’s still a 7/10 in my book.
@@PeterOlszewski Huh. Interesting. Hopefully I'll get the box set and reread the full series straight through for a better look, but I didn't pick up on those things. Curious what's preference and what's more... Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Yes, I would love to check out the Dark Tower! I have heard it’s great and ties together all of Stephen king’s universes! I’m planning on reading wheel of time soon! I have also heard there is a tv show!
I second The Dark Tower but be forewarned it can and does drag at times. Wizard and Glass is an amazing story but ultimately the whole book is a flashback and Wolves of the Callah could have been half as long IMO.
@@PeterOlszewski Dark Tower is my favorite story of all time, second only to Lord of the rings. It is wildly imaginative and immersive and I've never been more invested more in a story. By the end I literally would go to bed worried for some characters. That being said, the first book is not representative of what the series becomes, because he wrote it very young and wasn't sure what he would do with the story (although I do love the first book to death). The story really begins to move with the second book, Drawing of the Three. I'm so excited for you to read Wheel of Time. I'm rereaing Eye of the World right now, and it's bringing back so many memories. The characters and world are so vivid. Truly one of the greatest achievements in fantasy.
@@FringeWeekly you're totally right, but one unique things about the series is that almost everyone seems to have totally different experiences. I, for one, didn't care too much for Wizard and glass but loved wolves of the calla, while many people love wizard and glass but were bored by wolves. Goes to show how diverse a thing King created, and how many ideas and genres he tackled.
@sovereignprints_217 Oh yeah, King has a little something for everyone. I'll never forget the collab he did with Peter Straub with "Black House"; it gave me that tingling sensation every horror fan craves.
@@Neverending15 I finished almost all of Mistborn! Era 1 and Era 2 + Secret History and Eleventh metal. WoA was probably my least fav of the og trilogy though..
The book was so bad I’ve lost all interest in Sanderson. From the neutered characters to the woke stuff, I’m just done with it. If Way of Kings was anything like Wind and Truth, I never would have made it past the first book
Yeah. Ugh. That was really fricken bad. I can honestly deal with him making a character or two Gay, as long as it makes sense in the story... but that trans stuff felt forced as hell. I hate that's what I remember most from the story as well. Female Character 01: "I am a man. I have papers telling you so." Character 02: "Oh, of course. Makes complete sense. I completely accept you are a man now with no questions asked. Also you exist for this single moment in the book with no actual relevance to the narrative. Probably because we are in the middle of a fricken battle field and your probably dead by the end." Know what's worse? I did enjoy it. But this was by far his weakest book I've listened too and if the rest are going to be this way... Ugh.
This book was a huge disappointment 😞 It needs a real editor, not fanboy betareaders, hes gotta slow down the writing pace cause his prose is suffering, and like 75% of this book pauses the story during the climax to do my least fav trope, hallucinatory dreamscape transformative journey
I started reading the cosmere just a little less than a year ago, and even while reading the way of kings I was already getting a little hyped for book 5, but it sounds like his superfans were really setting themselves up for disappointment with the amount of hype this book was getting. I'm falling a little behind on reading, I am now catching up on the cosmere while waiting for this book to get delivered (it takes like a month in Europe) and now I'm reading RoW, a book that everyone kept saying is super boring and the worst in the series and I'm enjoying it a lot, I completely do not understand the hate the book is getting. This is what happens when your output has been so consistently good, at some point you're just gonna reach a plateau of hype that no matter how amazing a book turns out to be - people will be mad either way simply because it didn't live up to the impossibly high expectations you've been setting up and increasing every minute of your life for 4 years straight. Like I've literally seen booktubers say they cried 10 times and stood up and cheered while reading the book for 5 hours straight saying how much better it was than book 4 (which they gave a higher score to anyway lol) and still had the audacity to give the book 2/3 stars simply because it didn't live up to their ridiculously impossible high expectations.
@user-ly2ll5od1r its not an expectation thing. I dislike plenty of his books. RoW is great. Good ending, pretty enjoyable. It was still the weakest of the books at that point, but like... books 1-3 are 5★, 4 is 4★ and book 5 is legitimately 1 or 1.5★ in my opinion.
@@BooksRebound 1 star? Really? I have a really difficult time believing that. I haven't read the book yet of course, but the guy in the video seemed to really enjoy it, so I'm gonna judge for myself once I get to it. I am keeping my expectations level-headed, but I'm mostly certain it's gonna deliver, since I'm not a prose fiend, especially for books like these, I need something easy after Brothers Karamazov and War and Peace anyway. From what I hear, the only real issue of the book is the over explanations and uses of modern language, which sound like complete non-issues to me, I only care about the characters, worldbuilding and the story, Sanderson is not Faulkner or McCarthy, I don't come into his books ready to read good prose in the first place.

You looked so uncomfortable reading the hardcover copy 😭
This book was a huge disappointment 😞
It needs a real editor, not fanboy betareaders, hes gotta slow down the writing pace cause his prose is suffering, and like 75% of this book pauses the story during the climax to do my least fav trope, hallucinatory dreamscape transformative journey
Mate you a spurs fan as well ?
How would you rank it?
Right now I would rank them:
1. OathBringer
2.Words of Radiance
3.Way of Kings
4. Wind and Truth
5.Rhythm of War
My ranking may change with rereads though but in all honesty they are all great books!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
finally🙏🏻
"George RR Martin could never" 🤣🤣🤣
Now try first law 🙏
Peak series. Just read it last month
pls read the prison healer triolgy u wont regret it it migjt be a bit slow at first but the end makes it worth it trust me
if you like fantasy then you gotta check out the Dark Tower by Stephen King. An experience like none other. Also Wheel of Time lol
Hello Peter do you speak Polish? Cześć Piotr, mówisz po polsku bo masz takie nazwisko?
I wish! I am second generation American so I never learned. I have visited Krakow though. It’s a beautiful city!
lets gooo
I really hope you read mistborn next !!!
I’m currently reading Elantris and I will start mistborn after! Very excited for it!
@@PeterOlszewskiI can’t wait! I’m currently reading the second book in Mistborn era 1…
@@Neverending15 I finished almost all of Mistborn! Era 1 and Era 2 + Secret History and Eleventh metal. WoA was probably my least fav of the og trilogy though..
You’re a Spurs fan? My condolences (kidding)
It has been pretty rough lately 😅
The book was so bad I’ve lost all interest in Sanderson. From the neutered characters to the woke stuff, I’m just done with it. If Way of Kings was anything like Wind and Truth, I never would have made it past the first book
This one is definitely his worst book. Forced woke agenda ruined the series
Captain’s parrot escaped its cage.
bot comment
The forced woke agenda being gay characters existing
Yeah. Ugh. That was really fricken bad. I can honestly deal with him making a character or two Gay, as long as it makes sense in the story... but that trans stuff felt forced as hell. I hate that's what I remember most from the story as well.
Female Character 01: "I am a man. I have papers telling you so."
Character 02: "Oh, of course. Makes complete sense. I completely accept you are a man now with no questions asked. Also you exist for this single moment in the book with no actual relevance to the narrative. Probably because we are in the middle of a fricken battle field and your probably dead by the end."
Know what's worse? I did enjoy it. But this was by far his weakest book I've listened too and if the rest are going to be this way... Ugh.
@@DoomguyIsGrinningAtYou. You have serious mental issues buddy, maybe go see a THERAPIST lol

I dont agree it was a huge disappointment. But I agree with everything else you said
I started reading the cosmere just a little less than a year ago, and even while reading the way of kings I was already getting a little hyped for book 5, but it sounds like his superfans were really setting themselves up for disappointment with the amount of hype this book was getting.
@user-ly2ll5od1r yeah the entire thing was a huge slog to get through. I almost DNFd it
