    Just watched the video, excellent job. I also like the old 2 cylinder John Deere. I have the LP, Redone a 56 model 3 years work. Had 30 hours on it, ground fire broke out 2 miles north of my farm and burnt everything to the ground including an H model JD. I now have a early 720 and a 730 to start working on if I'm able. Trying to keep my 4020 running also, use it for farm work. At 77 years old it's getting harder to do everything I would like to do. Keep on Keeping on.

      Sorry to hear about the fire. Bummer. Nice to hear from others that keep the old iron running. The old 2 cyl. was an amazing machine. You have the best of two worlds a 730 and a 4020. COOL!! Thanks for viewing and have a good day.

    Beautiful 730 and you make it all look so easy your going to get some people in trouble! Nice job and I do know how much work you put into this 730! I just bought a 730 diesel Row crop wide front its in very good condition and is working on the farm where I am picking it up every day now doing hay work the tractor just had an overhaul under 200 hrs ago and it needs cleaning and of course light work the fender lights are just plain gone, clutch cover gone but new paint and seat, steering wheel and muffler and batteries. I will pick it up this thursday! it will be a wonderful ongoing project!!!

      Thanks for viewing. Its nice to hear from people that have knowledge of what a durable and powerful tractor tractor these for their day. 70 years old and still running strong says a lot for the designers. And what a blast to operate.

    A nice transformation on your 730, must have taken quite some time to complete. I am partial to the narrow front end, but like you stated, its what you grew up with. Selection of music was good also, thanks!

    The most rewarding tractor to restore and drive.

      I surely agree. John Deere did a great job on them, and driving one is great therapy on a tough day.

    After seeing the before pics, can't believe you pulled it off. That thing was a disaster...would love to know how long it took and what it cost and just what you did mechanically. Can't go wrong doing a rebuild on the JD 730, an icon of tractors.

      Thanks for the comment. It took about 2 months to restore.
      I rebuilt the pony motor. Basically tore everything down to inspect it for any weaknesses. The sheet metal was pretty rough, so some body work there. Mechanically the tractor was very sound. Fun project, brought back lots of good memories from our farm/dairy in Idaho. I picked up the tractor for $3000.00 and only put about another $1000.00 into it. But lots of labor. I will be replacing the tires this summer so around 1000,00 for that. So all in all I felt good about the investment for what I think is a special piece of history for John Deere and for my family.
      Thanks again
      Steve

    Nice job, ,first, I know your picture well, I did a 1000 piece puzzle of with that picture, gave it to a guy, who owns a 730 diesel, who was a lot of help on my 720 gas restoration, mine was not that bad to start with ,but I did take it down to the frame, yes, mine was a three year project, in a lean to on a barn, mostly, got the pieces all assembled in a guys shop.The 720 was finished in 03. I greatly admire your patience, and more, doing it when you are already tired. you have probably heard all the nice comments, but, I just wanted to say I admire you, for ,yes, I know what it's like to see a pile of parts for, years, and .....just wonder, I admire you .

    why did you remove the roll-o-matic front end for a wide front end? but nice work. I had thousands of hours in the seat of that same model.

    • @1940oldsmobile
      @1940oldsmobile  6 років тому +2

      I removed it because I like the stability. But more importantly the one we had on the farm that I put many hours on as a kid had a wide front end. We thought she was a Cadillac then. (compared to an A or B) although they were good for their time.Thanks a bunch for viewing and commenting. Have a good day.
