Steven Yeun is so well spoken. I concur with him in that we are caught in a 3rd culture..where we have to validate ourselves or identify ourselves as either Korean or American but we are amalgamation of both and we are just who we are...so very true!
I DEEPLY connected with this film and the story it tells. More than any other film, this film spoke to my experience as an Indian immigrant living in Norway. That, in my opinion, just speaks to how honest and well-made this story is. A truly beautiful film.
Wow..Norway~ I can see your life in Norway as an Indian immigrant just by the few words you used to describe your experiences! God bless~ I'm curious why uou chose Norway??

J.J Abrams did a great job interviewing. Even though he is such an accomplished Hollywood name he brought an unexpectedly fresh and unjaded perspective to his role as an interviewer. I'm so glad to see this gem of a film getting the attention it deserves:).
Lee was such a fine young man growing up in Lincoln. So proud to learn about his success with this movie. Thanks for sharing this video. I was local newspaper editor when he lived on Lincoln. Both he and his sister were amazing students and impressive role models.
Totally on board, also it's quite interesting to see and hear a director of a totally different practice/reputation interview another, and also realize that these people, regardless of their overall reputation (with Abrams being seen as one of the "FX" guys so to speak for example) recognize the craft. Almost no matter the genre, these guys know what they're talking about and it's a delight to listen
I'm glad Director Abrams mentioned the Korean couple on LOST. I absolutely loved the arc of their storyline! The two had some of the most touching scenes in the entire series and I loved that they were in Korean.
I agree! It was still a time when prominent Korean characters weren't very common so I was excited to see them! I also loved the "mystery" of what they were saying for non Korean speakers because they purposely didn't have subtitles.
Steven, that was Pulitzer winning essay worthy, your breakdown of the experience that is unique to immigrants and then Asian Americans. The existence of “Minari” is a statement, itself. Thank you Isaac for bringing this movie into existence. We are all better for it.
this film is one of the best really. The casting was superb, especially Steven and YJ. Allan Kim showed depth no young actor in recent years have shown, and Han Yeri, who i clearly believed was the heart of this film, should have gotten a nod too (that last scene with Steven at the side alley of a store was deeply moving, and only an Actress with her caliber can deliver). I'm thinking, is the water in South Korea reallly that diffrent? How are this country producing these great acts? Like seriously? BTS? Bong Joon Ho? Now the cast of Minari? (arghhh).
Yeun is such an intelligent, well educated person, is my impression of him from this video. Impressive. And unexpected, after seeing him in Walking Dead. Wonderful discussion here.
Love JJAbrams and his work. Happy to see him recognize Minari and his fellow filmmaker. This generation of film people are already so intelligent in their understanding and emotional appreciation of their tasks as directors, actors, scriptwriters. Some benefit from academic degree programs in film studies. So enjoyable to listen to them😘🤗👍💗🌺
I love this interview that JJ Abrams questions with Stephen and Isaac's answers are so cool ! I subscribe the channel . I am a Korean and live in USA as a first generation immigrant who work all the time. I can understand what Stephen & Isaac mentioned about.. Thank you for your video.. !
I really like Steven's comparison of his performance to a venn diagram of sorts. As a second generation korean man, I never really thought of my American experience in that way but it makes a ton of sense.
Love that..."just to show people is people" as a political act. It's so true that politics is really about the people, but in the act of serving the people, it also divides them.
He made a history. I grew up admiring Hollywood in South Korea. I did not realize Korean actors got such a recognition in Hollywood. Thank you, Steve Yuen.
I get your vibe but hey, that's just Abrams whos in the same business recognizing good filmmaking. I mean it's not like he's dumb because he makes his movies, as this Interview shows he's seems quite intelligent and has to have had decent skill to be at the point where he is right now
28:30 When Isaac explained the poetic nature of minari plant having to die at the first yield and only at second yield can it be eaten represents so much abt immigrants. The first generation will have to sacrifice for the next generations to prosper.
As a Korean-American, I feel JJ Abrams understands a part of me and my identity more deeply than the other two here. No shade or disrespect, just my honest feelings.
Alternatively, a good writer and JJ Abrams. Jk, I haven't watched any of his movies so I can't judge. I'm thankful he produced Castle Rock and is promoting Chung.
Last year, JJ Abrams was on a podcast and he mentioned how much he loved this movie when he saw a screening of it. This is so cool

I'm thrilled to see the pride that the fine people of Lincoln, Arkansas have in help raising Lee Isaac Chung to be the man that he is today.
As a Korean American I had a cathartic experience watching this. Cried yes. But more so it was just so beautifully made.

Check out A24's podcast, too--although if you're here you're probably already familiar. But it's basically just this every episode
Check out the one that was done by Variety where Parasite director Bong Joon Ho interviews Lee. I personally enjoyed that one.
If you're a fan of Steven Yeun, and haven't seen "BURNING". You're missing out on one of his best performances.
Burning, I hated him there, he is so good at it! Yoo Ah In superb! Jeon Jong-seo free spirit, and these two men.
