I'm glad I found the song that is so intertwined with my childhood. Staying up late watching The Twilight Zone not to mention the glorious marathons that TV stations used to broadcast on New Year's Eve. Thanks for the memories Mr Goldsmith! Rest In Peace. 💐
@@TimeandMonotony thank you for your response. I don't have cable or satellite anymore so I have the boxed set on DVD. It's great having them so I can watch them whenever I want but it was a lot of fun watching them during the marathon. It gave me something to look forward to and plan for.
@@ladyrachel13 Oh, same here! No TV channels, so I end up making my own marathon with my DVD box set. 😊 Or sometimes I'll go over to someone else's house and commandeer their remote for the night. 😄
Watching the TZ Marathon now, on Sci-Fi channel. They are airing “To Serve Man.” One of the best episodes from the series, particularly for its final twist.
I'm watching Syfy's TZ marathon, too! Tuned in right before To Serve Man started. I actually have a tattoo of that alien script! It's one of my favorite episodes. Happy (slightly belated) Twilight Zone Day! 😃
A few years ago, I used this score from this CD in my 9th grade English class, when our assignment was to dramatize (act out) a story we'd written to background music. I freaking ACED the assignment, due I'm sure in no small part to this incredible, spine-chilling piece of music. Jerry Goldsmith and Rod Serling...two of my biggest heroes.
I don't know the name of that one, King. But, my neighbor and I are thinking about using 3:31 to 4:38 in a loop and play it over loudspeakers on beggars night this Halloween as they the kids walk through a makeshift foggy graveyard as they approach our houses to get their candy. Muahahahahahaha! I loved being scared on Halloween as a kid. So much fun.
This music was widely used in TV until the early 70s. Also of course in other TZ episodes...notably, "To Serve Man" (time 3:40) when the Kanamit enters the UN and Rod Serling compares him to "a Christopher Columbus, from another place, another time....."
Goldsmith's score here is so recognizable in other TV shows of the same time and it's a delight to hear, just as it is here. Well done! Nice to see what the Professor was doing before he set sail on a 3 hr. tour, not to mention that Emmett was in law enforcement before relocating to Mayberry & opening a fix-it shop. You savvy readers out there know what I'm talking about.
Back There I guess depicting the time traveler played by Russel Johnson, who tried and stopped Abe Lincoln's assassination. great apprehensive atmosphere here my favorite part, 3:42 of the piece, great use of the harpsichords and the baritone. would work for incidental track of any pilgrimage scenario to a strange planet or time period. great for any sci-fi really, oddly, much of this track was also used in Perry Mason, and "The Fugitive". a bit over done in those series. they reuse tracks in many shows.
Lots of TZ soundtrack clips were also used in the Western "Have Gun, Will Travel"...as well as in Perry Mason - I believe that included elements of the classic Back There music
Back in 1865 while on its destination to Illinois, President Lincoln's funeral train rolled through my hometown on what is known as the "Water Level Route." Right up the road is the town of Willoughby. A lot of history on the WLR.
So far the first time in a TZ episode where I've had to rewind just to listen to a piece of music again (this being a few episodes into season 2). The whole part playing during his initial stroll in the past is _so_ good.
I heard this score coupled with Goldsmith's The Invaders score in an episode of Rawhide called Incident At Ten Trees. Very effective in that episode as well.
your kidding your grandpa is James Gavin. i loved him as the cop who actually believes Russel Johnson. i also remember him on countless westerns, like playing the sheriff on Big Valley. he's still alive right?
Brilliant! Love the original conducted by Jerry Goldsmith. Be careful not to listen the the pedestrian crappy remakes conducted by that Godawful Joel McNeely. He truly sucks. In particular, he has a great talent for ruining Bernard Herrmann.
Twilight Zone was lucky to have two of the best soundtrack composers -- Jerry Goldsmith and Bernard Herrmann.
Fred Steiner, too. All were extraordinary.
Van Cleave also done his share.
stunning, Rest in Peace Jerry Goldsmith, the Mozart of film composers, many thanks for the post!
Suspense, irony, fear, anticipation, wonder, questions, terror, loneliness, indecision , hope, growth .The "W 5" (?) This piece envokes ... Wonderful. RIP, Thanks Mr. J. Goldsmith. Beautiful piece. In Like Flint 😉 !

Syfy still runs TZ marathons every New Years, you should check it out! 😃
It's also a huge part of my childhood. ❤

@@TimeandMonotony so cool!!!
That harpsicord at the end just oozes menace. Amazing score. Thanks for posting!
Chilling and other worldly---Stunning!
Thank you for uploading this. Rest in peace maestro Goldsmith!
I *really* enjoyed this episode. Brings back good memories.

Should you have payed royalties?
Could you imagine going to a funeral and having this soundtrack played at it? OMG!
Scott Lanter whats the song called at 3:31

I might do this. Just leave it in my will.

QUIT SWEARING.!!.
??? I hear God when I listen to music. Maybe you don't.
+randomrob1968 Oh my God is right, this stuff is incredible.
+randomrob1968 Death Ship to be sure. An hour one.
I came here just to listen to exactly this passage.
This is monumental music and deserves to be digitally remastered.
Some of this MUSIC was in MY. "2ND FAVE." T.Z. 2 serve man.
OMG, I found this song !!!!!!!!!!!
9:50 The Fugitive - The Witch, Come Watch Me Die, The Ivy Maze, to name a few.

"The Invaders" used this score, as did "Death Ship" and "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet."
this score was also used in the Kingdom of the Spiders movie ... creepy
Kingdom of the Spiders used this too
MY 2nd youngest SISTER was born ON ABE'S B-DAY IN 1996, AND SO WERE MANY, MANY PEOPLE.!!.
Also reused on that spider movie starring William Shatner...remember???
Kingdom Of The Spiders (1977).
In response to 43Nostromo this recording has been digitally remastered. So what is the complaint?
maybe wants it uber-compressed in faux stereo. I think it sounds fantastic as is.
The Fugitive: The Ivy Maze and other episodes.
your kidding your grandpa is James Gavin. i loved him as the cop who actually believes Russel Johnson. i also remember him on countless westerns, like playing the sheriff on Big Valley. he's still alive right?
I met the actor who plays JW Booth.
