ive always thought of this as having kind of a carnival theme lol. my head always pictures monkeys with canes and barber shop quartet hats doing a kick line routine lol
LOL! That's a great mental picture too go along with this song!
Hey Bois! Mad Caddies are a great punk-ska band. Just so you know, this song, as enjoyable and silly as it is, is not like most of their usual music. I highly recommend their 1998 album called 'Duck and Cover' ('Monkeys' happens to be on that album). I used to listen to that album a lot back then - loved it!
Growing up on central coast california, have seen Max Caddies a lot. Always a fun watch. I would recommend Less Than Jake’s song- Scott Farcas Takes It On The Chin.
Doing that whole Hello Rockview album here soon! -Joel
the mad caddies started out as a dixieland band. then they moved into ska, and from there they throw in a bit of punk now and again. their song "road rash" is a really good mashup of the various genres. i think i might even request it on your patreon next month.
I have this album. It's got some decent songs on it. I don't listen to it often, but I really should check out some of there other stuff. I think I'll make a Pandora station for them and see what else they are going on.
Love me some Mad Caddies, but I don't know if this is the best track to get introduced to them thru. It's more jokey than their usual stuff, but it is kind or representative of the fact that they do have a lot of Dixieland elements in their sound overall. The track is pretty much just about meatheads at shows and bars acting like grade-A-holes. Check out Drinking For 11 or Macho Nachos by them next.
Brain cell was about to go to Chuck for having no filter about why he loves monkeys , but then lost it for not knowing who The Monkees are. By default, brain cell to Joel!
Seems fair. Got worse when Joel brought up multiple songs of theirs that I very clearly know. -Chuck
@@KnightscastStudios don't worry Chuck...default brain cells don't really count... and we know who REALLY got the brain cell for this one!
Muhahaha 😁😅 -Joel
Coupla monkees good shit bois
Ska punk - essentially a blend of ska (Jamaican music that was the faster, predecessor of Reggae from the 50s) and punk - the angry, angsty 3 chord rebellion music from the mid-late 70s. Over time both genres have evolved quite a long way, as has ska punk.
There are plenty of ska bands without horns, and there are plenty of punk/pop punk bands with horns that aren't ska - but everything kinda gets lumped under a single bracket.
For example - Mad Caddies are undoubtedly a ska punk band but I personally wouldn't necessarily class this song as ska punk - but definitely ska punk influenced.
If you love horns in music, definitely delve deeper into Mad Caddies. This song isn't really representative of them.
Also check out Streetlight Manifesto if you love horn driven bands.
