Hi Monologi, thanks for the comment. I did check out TW, some parts look even more G1 than RH, but it also kinda failed at the face. So I did not go for that one.
Glad i sold Big Spring and this came out. Btw ur prefered transformation makes him look thin. The cartoon shoulder pads would give him the added bulk and wideness. Makes him look good and faithful to me.
I have the original and always said a little paint and a better face and thats it. I ended up getting the Fanstoys reissue right b4 this came out. Who knew? Would love to see a side by side comparison to mark the differences.
Fanstoys is a good choice, it has the best robot mode in my opinion, and two alt modes are also pretty decent. The reason why I pick RH-02 is mainly because of the simplicity compared to Fanstoys, and of course the price. I don't own Big Spring, but maybe I would borrow one for a comparison.
I went Fans Toys as well. I don't think he's the best Springer as I believe that belongs to MMC Saltus. However, Fans Toys take has the better alt modes, in my opinion, especially the helicopter as that's what ultimately made me choose Fans Toys. I can live with the robot being off a little but, MMC's take makes the helicopter mode look atrocious.
So, not only did they not properly fix the waist tab, they actually tighten the hip joint, the area that never has any problem to begin with, to the point moving that part becomes a chore huh.
The big thing I want to know before I buy this is, does the dark green ab section tab in securely? That was a huge issue on Big Spring, where it simply would not stay in the slot.
This saved me having to ask this. I think my favorite part of this guy for some strange reason is the expanding cockpit glass. I have no idea why, but I'm just enamored with that.
Why do you have his shoulders mistransformed? I've been curious why some reviewers do that, especially when he comes out of the box with his shoulders properly transformed. Just curious
Hi Jeremy, thanks for the comment. This Springer offers options to transform the shoulders in the 86 movie form, which is the default out-of-box form, or, in G1 toy / Studio OX form, I'd prefer the latter, that's why.
@@OptimusLegends OK that makes sense. I never had the G1 toy, but grew up with the movie and the subsequent seasons, so that's my reference point. Thank for explaining. Toy Dojo did a comparison of FT Apache to the original Big Spring, and they had the shoulders in toy configuration, but then used that as a reason to say Big Spring was too tall and not toon accurate. It was driving me nuts. Then I saw your review and just had to ask. I figured there was a reason.
Yes, Springer is a beefy guy in the 86 movie, and FT does capture the likeness of the cartoon look, and it is also true that Big Spring is a bit slim, but that is also a Studio OX design style, if you google Studio OX Springer, you could see that RH-02 is very much spot on, the proportion, the accurate weapon design and the upward shoulder form, you can even find every single panel line in the OX design on Big Spring, that's crazy how accurate it is. So if you are very much after the toon look, FT is good choice. I am very much into the G1 toy and Studio OX design, so I like RH-02, an enhanced version of Big Spring.
The screws are on the inside of the thigh, it's not very helpful to secure this transformation joint though. It's okay, just have to pay some attention how to handle it.
@@OptimusLegends I understand. Maybe some pledge or kiki. I guess I'm gonna have to give you another full playthrough, so I can remember what we're talking about. Oh darn, stats lol
@@OptimusLegends Ahh yes, the most endearing story ever guy. Looking at the box as your only experience with Springer as a kid, so the shoulders being positioned upward is important to you. A lot of people might find that story sad, but we lived in different times. We didn't get everything we wanted, and that was ok. It made us appreciate wihat we did get all the more. I've got similar stories. I didn't even get the bad guy's leader til he was dead WAAAAAAY after I saw the movie IN the theater. Some people argue that the movie never got a cinima release. Umm, yeah it did, me, my buddy, and my mom went, and my mom cried when Prime died lmao. I was able to get 1 figure afterward, because my mom felt bad about all my toys getting killed lol. I got Scourge.
Oh, and now. I can't afford to collect MP, so I'm a chug guy. I just got Siege Springer literally yesterday. He too has the option to position the shoulders, in the box art style.
@@publicprofilename4273 Thank you so much for sharing your story, I was born in the 70s, my parents could not afford Transformer toys at all, so me and my younger brother grew up with just a shared Hubcap, which we used as a bumblebee placeholder since he's completely sold out, and we had no idea who Hubcap was, then window-shopping became our only memory about transformer toys, that's probably the reason why I was extremely obsessed with G1 box art. We were almost all very poor back then, so we didn't feel it as much, my cousin had G1 Springer and I played with it a lot, which built my connection to this character. I also got Siege Springer, love it. I just recently started reviewing chug scale characters, starting from Studio Series from the Bumblebee movie, hope we could have more discussion about our shared collections and memories.
Love your reviews! Third review I watched tonight after subscribing and i will watch many more!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great review and you have superb taste for being able to appreciate the Studio OX/G1 toy designs.
Thank you kindly, glad we share the same taste and like the same character design.
I grew up with the G1 toy, well, my cousin's G1 toy..
Toyworld Springer also has this shoulder option :) It looks a lot like the box art. You should take a look.

@@OptimusLegends Exactly, looks great and easy to go back and forth through the modes. I hope Open and play produce more figures.

Unscrew the upper thigh and apply some silicone grease to the ratchets and spring, that will fix the tightness
So, not only did they not properly fix the waist tab, they actually tighten the hip joint, the area that never has any problem to begin with, to the point moving that part becomes a chore huh.
I guess they are not the same factory producing these figures, and Robot Hero did what they thought was necessary.
The big thing I want to know before I buy this is, does the dark green ab section tab in securely? That was a huge issue on Big Spring, where it simply would not stay in the slot.
It tabs in pretty securely on mine. And it was a known issue on big spring, so I guess RH improved on it.
@@OptimusLegends ACES! I will definitely buy him now. Because I really loved Big Spring, but the face and some of the tabs were just, bleah.
Hope you will enjoy the figure, it is a great reissue.

They do it because they know it's the best one in all 3 modes check and see!
Most review guy work for the stores they get free toys the more sales they make get $$$$$$$
Is there a screw on the backside of the legs? If so, loosen it maybe a half turn at a time until it moves freely but still is secure.
The screws are on the inside of the thigh, it's not very helpful to secure this transformation joint though.

Still the best Springer. The new xtransbots is awesome but his back is a total mess. And fanstoys is too chunky. I just wish this had changeable faces
We share the same opinion on this, and I think creating accurate face sculpts are difficult for the 3rd party companies like always.
