Four Walmarts shut down in Chicago because they've been losing money for a while. It was almost comical their civic leaders were whining that it wasn't fair that the people had to go out of their communities to work and buy food etc. It's amazing to me how little self awareness of the fact their own actions or inaction, affects their lives.

I was in SF the week of xmas-nyrs 2022-2023. Went to DT Macys for a jacket. There was a guy taking clothes, anything that didnt have the security tag. Shoving down his pants/shirt. We told the cashier and sec guard , their answer was OK, thanks . Yes poop on the streets

I visited San Francisco a lot when I was a kid. I even did the Alcatraz tour three times. Now SF is just a crap hold and not even worth visiting.
But the city is now like a prison.

I never thought in my lifetime would it ever be where basically there was no punishment for shoplifting. I have never even thought about stealing even a piece of candy from any store. Little alone thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. The concept of why people feel that they have the right to something that they have not paid for or earned. This is all like living is some type of twilight zone movie.

So where in the world would one shop in downtown San Fran? Our boring rural city in Southern Indiana has most of these stores still. I haven’t seen any product being locked up yet or any notice any of them is closing. As an Asian Am my port of entry was San Francisco coming down on the TWA plane over the Pacific Ocean, and looking at the Golden Bridge I thought I just saw heaven on earth. But somehow the temptation to stay didn’t stick and I flew to Chicago to live and work there, then moved to Indiana. I am so glad many things came together to make that happen and looking back having raised two adult boys into budding career professionals I can’t imagine what chaotic life us parents would have provided to them growing up in San Francisco as it’s beautiful and exciting reputation started to crumble way back in the day.
What an interesting story Taz. I can somewhat relate as I'm an American of SE Asian descent, born in the 50's and raised in the North Bay. I always loved "The City by the Bay" and once lived in San Bruno and worked in Burlingame. Like yourself, my career led me to interesting places here and abroad (Newport Beach, Oregon, Seattle, Detroit and Australia). I live and finally retired in Indiana as well. It's sad to see a beautiful city fold under "liberal, left wing leadership" but the people there voted for those leaders and with their choice comes consequences. 🇺🇲🇵🇭🇦🇺

I did LP work for a couple of grocery chains in the Bay Area. Calling the law on thieves in SF was a waste of time unless we could prove charges like strongarm/armed robbery, burglary, ADW, etc…
Sometimes that wouldn’t even work, and this was all back in the mid to late 90’s, so it’s been a long time coming. A once beautiful, historic city driven into the ground by lefties. It’s stench is spreading to other cities and states. Watch out!
Yeah people need to understand these financial district neighborhoods they're talking about have been like this since the 80s and probably before the 80s. There's a lot of problems in other neighborhoods too in S.F. they're not mentioning either. I moved out 6 years ago and my parents still live there and I really worry for them all the time with all the sick f*cks on the streets they let walking around the city.

My parents moved us out of San Leandro in '99, the summer before my freshman year, and I'm so glad they did. Colorado was a much better place to grow up than the Bay Area. I also worry about my family still in California. I have cousins with young children in San Jose and these videos about all the looting gets me thinking about the stress my cousins must be in. I wish they had the resources to relocate.

How long ago was that? Downtown San Francisco, South of Market, and the Tenderloin district have always been a dirty sh*t hole since the 80s plus. There was actually more murders and gangs in San Francisco in the 80's and 90's also. I'm just wondering when downtown was clean and cheerful and when crime was little to non-existent out there? There's clean and cheerful neighborhoods in San Francisco now and in the the past, but I never seen downtown, union square, tenderloin area clean and cheerful. I wish I could of seen downtown clean and cheerful.

The last time I was in SF was in 2000, beautiful city but so sad it’s gotten so bad. I live in San Diego, there’s nice areas and crime ridden areas. One thing I hate is the stupid politics that’s ruining our beautiful state.
San Diego County was an island of sanity, in a sea of lunacy. The looneys are now taking it over. I left before the plan-demic hit, after 25 years. I miss the weather and my 4 acre mountain view.

I was born in San Francisco, a 4th generation native. I have fond memories from the 1960's 🥴
I used to go in 70s and 80s awesome place it used to be
I'm a 4th generation native too born in 79, but the Tenderloin district, downtown, and South of Market all can be considered downtown S.F. and it's always been a dirty and dangerous place since I can remember, 1980's plus. It's so sad it's still the same and getting worse now in 2023. There are still beautiful and safe neighborhoods in some areas of San Francisco though.

Lived in the Bay area for 25 years. The only things we miss is the weather and great restaurants along the Wharf and in China town.
i got transferred to Sac in '95. we used to spend the weekend in "The City" 3-4 times a year until 2000. it was a blast and was reasonably safe and reasonably clean in the tourist areas...at least we didn't see needles and feces everywhere.

I lived in Tahoe from '84-2021 and saw it go waaaaaaay down hill for various reasons. Up until the mid-2,000's, I had a yearly subscription to ACT (American Conservatory Theatre) where me and my husband went down for one wknd every month for the play, dinners out, museums, concerts, the wharf, the Buena Vista restaurant for Sunday breakfast and a world famous Irish coffee, fresh seafood along the wharf, comedy clubs, the Kimpton Boutique hotels, dance clubs, Bix Martini Bar, Pier 23, etc., etc
The last two times I was there SF has streets filled with opioid and heroin users on BART and on Market St. and Union Square... everywhere.
My daughter moved to Sedona and I moved down to Arizona to be close to her and my first grandson. I must say, tons of Californian's have moved... and many to Arizona.
I used to go on day trips to San Francisco was so gorgeous looking over golden gate bridge no more but I will go to the small town of Sausalito over the Golden Gate Bridge I feel safe there cute town.

I went to SF to see a play a couple of months ago and it was so uncomfortable. I saw a few people doubled over with their head down and their butt up in the air high on crack. People there just regard that as normal, I guess.

Same story here in Seattle. As the cost of living and taxes go up so does the crime, drug use, homeless encampments and prostitution.
Many of the stores that remain open have limited stock, or they keep many items locked behind plastic barriers. That's the norm for a radius quite far from actual downtown. There are frequently armed gaurds at many of the places that remain open. I can't imagine this is a successful way to promote business.
It's been a very sad and scary spiral for too long and I can't imagine what the solution might be😡😢
