- We have to return our charter boat to the marina in Naples Italy and since it is very enar by, we visit the ancient Roman city of Pompei. Pompei was completely covered in ash from the Eruption of Mount Vesivious in 79AD and the city was essentially preserved for 2,000 years! We have to leave Italy and in this video we tell you where we are headed next and give you a sneak peak at the new boat.

Bobby, I agree, Naples Gulf is, with the French Riviera, the most expensive areas to sail on the planet. You get: amazing coast, culture, historic sites, good food, nice weather, it is a secure place, … paying €50 per meal with wine on top of a cliff … How much would you pay in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, …?

It was great to see Pompei again, as it brought great back great memories of my stop there last summer. I hadn't realized how big it was as you could spend days visiting. We had a tour guide and saw so much, but hadn't seen the amphitheater, so it was great to see it in your video. Seemed like there was a lot less people then when I went in August.

Took the tour to the top of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius.

Yes you are right, you choose one of the most iconic and expensive area in Italy. I bet if you move South to Sicily and Puglia - by the way amazing places - you can spend much less and equally enjoy wonderful sea, landscapes, art, culture and...food!!

I visited Pompei in 2001 and saw a whole other side of it than you did in this video. I don't remember going through a managed museum like you did. I remember seeing castings (of bodies) in corners of "houses" along the streets. Alas, my travel mate had not studied Latin (language) and had less appreciation for the civilization they had developed. If I were to do it over again, I would go alone or with someone more appreciative of ancient Roman skills and spend at least three days wandering around.

Too funny, last episode I said you should have taken a trip to Pompei. There is also an app that walks you thru the ruins.
Beautiful country Italy but very expensive especially in the tourist areas and great crew Bobby, but Amanda always tops the list with her beautiful smile and warmth truly a genuine woman with amazing personality no one can top. I can't wait for the next video and safe travel's .
Bobby, thank you for the fantastic tour of Pompeii. I'm 75 years old so I am not going to get a chance to visit. I couldn't get over how large the city was and how well developed it was. It was impressive to think people lived that well a couple thousand years ago. I wondered if there was any danger that the volcano could blow again?

Coming from NZ, we bleed chips straight away with the terrible exchange rate for us in Europe. We were in Italy and Greece, and France last July 23 (on road & air), and it was Beautiful/Amazing!! (and bloody expensive! :-O)

Funny ever since I visited Naples Italy, I’ve always referred to it as Napoli:)
I began serious sailing in the Med in the mid-70s as a professional skipper, since that time and following a change of career I've owned a series of my own sailing yachts, fairly modest sizes moored mostly in France and Greece. The explosion of mooring costs is eye-watering.. The marinas can name any figure they want, if you can't afford it you can be sure that there's someone else who can.. Now retired I've had to sell what will no doubt have been my last boat.. I miss it like a mistress.. No first hand experience in recent years as to the costs in Croatia but I was still able to find reasonable prices in parts of Greece.. just not reasonable enough for me having retired :
