Alfred Cortot once said : "You know how to play Mozart? Did you ever hold a little bird in your hands? That's how we play Mozart."
What does that mean
@@gonzbry7272 It means that to play Mozart, you need to go gently, softly, caring for the bird almost more than you would care for yourself. To play Mozart you need to feel you have someone else's life in your hands (literally). To play Mozart you need to have an utmost understanding of how fragile is our humanity. To play Mozart you must acknowledge that tragic condition and surround it with the deepest joy it inspires you.
Le
@@soyeux27 You’ve got a real gift for writing, Claudio. That’s a beautiful way to talk about Mozart
@@jarvis1508 Thank you Jarvis for your kind words!
The hands so close together using only half of the piano - yet a whole universe…
This is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful things my ears have ever experienced, No one has ever gotten this close to Mozart. I wish there were more words to describe how beautiful this is.
this is simply one of his works you can't say that it encompasses all of Mozart's compositions
@@platedpen true.
The clock stands still.....this is heaven.
For me the beauty of Mozart shines through best in his slower, more lyrical movements, such as this one.
Fun fact: this isn't meant to be a slow piece. Playing it this slowly is just outright ignoring the sheet music and interjecting an interpretation that wasn't what Mozart intended. That's fine, but it also does a huge disservice to the composer. Slow middle movements in Sonatas wasn't as common as people believe and play them in modern times.
When I took piano lessons 60-odd years ago, this is how I heard this movement in my heart. Of course, I could never get to piano to sound like this. How wonderful that Ms. Uchida has!
Mozart composed this sonata to be played exactly like this. Perfection.
The touch of a butterfly
so beautiful. the sound is gently and just like healing a wound.
Beautifully said
Perfect description of Mozart! If Beethoven rages against his wound, Mozart feels like healing it.
Mitsuko and Mozart are the perfect match.....!!!! Both wonderful....!
the only thing is Mozart is dead. Other than that yeah
I saw and listened to UCHIDA , live, in Boston , once. Will never forget it.
Mozart never dreamed this music could have so much depth. Uchida makes this music better than it is by sheer artistry .Her recordings decades ago of these sonatas show she has grown in maturity .I am dazzled that she made such simple almost children's music an utterance utterly communicative something about life and remembrance. Each note has life and is saying something the truly amazing thing is she can command all this tonal resource and in the moment subtlety in concert. Many mediocre artists make superlative recordings but here she is in encore playing with superhuman touch and sensitivity .Arrau ,Brendel ,Haskil .I've never heard Mozart played like this .
Nada a ver
John e martin III is completely correct. This performance is amazing. I'd been playing the piece myself for sometime and I hadn't realised how beautiful it could be! Furthermore the CD recording by Schiff that I had been listening to is nothing compared to Uchida's performance.
She's a great performer, but I still find this song to inherently be better played closer to its indicated tempo than played as slowly as this. It loses the childlike joy of the piece for something more sorrowful.
I have learned this Sonata N°16 from Mozart the second movement. It is full of grace the way Mitsuko plays it. It is heavenly. Thank you so much.
Mozart has been my best friend since I was in my teens. I often listen to this movement when I want to hear the lovely voice of Mozart. Very few pianists can make me feel I’m hearing his voice, though technically this movement is so easy that even little children can play it. Mitsuko is one of the very few, like Gieseking, she makes me feel certain that Mozart is still the same, being my best friend.
A M A Z I N G !!!!!!!! Her music is heavenly! I am working on this 2nd movement for a competition in three months from now. I hope I can achieve at least 5-10 % of her style and graceful way of playing this Masterpiece of Mozart. That is why I watch this video about 5 times a day :)
Vishal It took me 1 hour to play this and VERY slow. She is anazing
I played this three years ago for a music competition and won the first prize in my age group :)
Vishal Congratulations :)). It's a very beautiful Sonata, I really like the second movement, it's so pretty.

Better version. I think, Mitsuko imitates him))

tears in my eyes. perhaps in hers too every time she plays this.
No doubt about it... The absolute best performance of this masterpiece! Ever!!
To be able to create music like that - is an art worth sacrificing for, to make a life worth living.
This is so beautiful. She brings me to tears.
I have never heard this piece played so beautifully. Uchida-san captures the essence of this piece. I would have my infant sleep to this it is so beautifully played. BRAVO!!!
I cannot add much to what John e. martin III had written--I agree with every word, but I do want to say one thing: The 2nd movement in many of Mozart's piano sonatas are slow, melancholic, and utterly beautiful. This cannot be a coincidence, don't you agree? Mitsuko Uchida captured Mozart's Inner Soul here, I feel. Thanks!!!
When Mrs. Uchida plays Mozart's sonatas, you can easily feel her smoothness and exquisite interpretation
Amazing, heartfelt, strikingly beautiful!!! Like a gentle breeze!!! Thank you Ms. Uchida for your heavenly charisma!!!
This is so super beautiful
Try very
Never ever have I heard this peace played so exceptionally beautiful! From now on she will be my No. one reference when preparing a piece from Mozart.
Marvellous !!!!!!!! The best interprétation
Brought to tears every time...
Mitsuko you're the best,gracefully played!
So much expressed in few notes, Mozart is a genious and Uchida also.
Mozart would be proud of her.
I am working on this piece and I think i am to 20% in that style as she plays.
Uchida spielt einem Mozart tief ins Herz hinein... wunderschön!
Incredible,no words.I wish one day I can play at least half good she does.
Her touch is exquisitely beautiful&warm...that's the most thing I like of her performances, and as a pianist.
Though I play the classical guitar, as a classical musician, I think she's got such antique&classical emotions and it allows her to play every single notes so well..
I became a big fan of her, anyway:)
Jennifer Kim - true. Her dynamic variations are extremely well thought out and executed. Her phrasing is exactly what the piece demands.
I'm flying like a birds. Thanks a lot madame
That's just phenomenal.
this song makes me feel like walking over thin ice

the ice beneath my feet cracking ever so slightly but not actually breaking through
step... step... step... step...
Delicate and wonderfull!
so beautiful... i can feel her inner beauty
jeon lucien that would be Mozart’s....she is reenacting it.
Nice role model,Mitsuko Uchida! I like playing it too😊
This makes me cry what a wonderfully touch and gentile andante.
her fingers are so cloudy. I think im floating
Effortlessly beautiful!
She takes me to heaven when I listen to this performance.
Emotion and miracle sound.Thank you Mozart and Mitsuko
Magico, excepcional, magnifico.
Supposedly the easiest of all mozart sonatas, i am still learning to play it correctly, Never like Mitzuko.
The accoustics are perfect , this video is a gift from heaven.
I think most people play Mozart wrong, Mozart was a genius and he knew that, he had a high esteem, he mocked people, the secret is in his left hand it speaks with the right hand, and the left hand always makes the final statement. Most Mozart's pieces aren't to be played gently as you think. you have to think like Mozart did. Anyway love Ms. Ushida's rendition. Did you listen to the end of this 2nd movement?? There ya go...
music from the angels played by an angel

It is a dream ! It is filled with Love, poetry ! Thank you.
The 2nd movement of this sonata is sooooo good I wish it was more famous
Mozart was a genius. His music is heavenly.
Make me moved in tears
Mozart Always talks to soul!!! ...principally with their sonatas.
Merveilleux ! bravo ! Merci !
Maravilhosa! Bela interpretação.
she plays so beautifully, but I just don't kow if Mozart meant for this level of emotions in this piece.
Yup, could be, but so what, if every one stuck to what should be we'd lose versions like this one which is so sweet!!!
kanghuali - this raises the age old debate: should soloists interpret the piece the way they think it should be played or interpret it as they think the composer intended it to be played. I believe the former because composers leave much to the musician to decide.
Playing it according to tempo alters the emotion quite a bit. It's a much more playful, fun song. This type of interpretation is nice, but it still seems lacking compared to playing it as indicated.
Why not? Even the modest piece has something unique. Play, listen and dream 😁
yes
Unbeschreiblich schön.....
Capolavoro di Mozart e della pianista!!!
Oh my Goodness! It's like Mitsuko married Mozart and they had a child named, "K545 2nd Movement".
She is super super pianist .and I admire her sine when I was little.

i'll only say it here because probably shouldn't say it anywhere else
the only thing wrong with this
its that it's perfect
Great pianist indeed!
Wow, beautiful!!!

In life; there is sadness. Pain. Tears of no end. But its okay. Because there is also inexorable and unrelenting joy; joy that can only exist if the gravity that came before was shattered and conquered.
Very beautiful
