@@SmilestonesDJAdventures I have a question for you. I see you are using google drive to back up the raw mp3s and the cue/beatgrid/tag data. I have Dropbox and can easily make sure it backs up the mp3s but where do I find the other data to back up? It’s my worst fear losing it.
I know what you mean. Before every event or at least every few weeks, i do this: In rekordbox I backup the library (without music - just the library data). The library backup file automatically gets uploaded to my Google drive. I also manually copy it to my backup laptop and restore it so that it’s in sync with my main instance. Now I have 3 backups
Excellent Mobile Dj Content - Keep the Good work up -- A quick question for you... I am UK Mobile Dj, would u recommend subscribing to DMS as UK Dj or are they more focus towards the American Dj Market ? Do they offer UK chart tracks n remixes ? Thanks in advance :)
Thanks Duncan! I just checked and 9 of the current top 10 UK singles tracks are on DMS, except for Central Cee - Obsessed. If that trend continues then coverage is pretty good! You can browse their catalog without a subscription if you want to inspect
@@SmilestonesDJAdventures- Much appreciated for replying quickly and taking the time to check the UK chart. Have you checked out Beatsource ? Rekorkbox compatible etc - maybe u could do a future review !!
Fantastic series. Your videos are amongst my favourite on Rekordbox across UA-cam! I do have a few questions if you wouldn't mind helping! :) 1) Metadata and tagging - do changes made in Rekordbox overwrite the original audio file metadata (e.g. you change title and add genre tags will it show in Finder)? 2) Reverse of above, if I add a music folder to my Rekordbox collection, apply changes within Rekordbox THEN later edit the filename outside of Rekordbox (e.g. finder on mac), will it still see it is the same underlying file or will it break the link so to speak? 3) If I add an audio file from Folder location A, analyse it, add cue points and phasing edits etc, THEN later on move audio file from Folder Location A to Location B, will Rekordbox keep the history of that info (then at later date when I add Location B to Rekordbox it will realise this song has been analysed and edited in the past and show prior linked info) In a nutshell, I have found old hard drives with music in multiple folder locations with no common nomenclature system. A decade ago I spent 100s hours categorising them with metadata but only managed cleaning (artwork and filenames etc.) and applying tags (with personalised genre tags) to 25% of songs in collection. 75% remaining songs have inconsistent naming conventions, random artwork and so forth. I am trying to discern whether I need to continue the "cleaning" outside of Rekordbox or if I can just continue within Rekordbox. Thank you in advance and have a very good day.
Johnny, I really appreciate your feedback! Quick answers, from my experience: 1) yes, this works well. 2) not really. The rekordbox database is king as the system of record. 3) yes! Relocation works well! So I’d vote that if you’re committing to rekordbox as your music organization platform, you should halt all editing outside and only update the rekordbox db.
@@SmilestonesDJAdventures Kevin, you are lightning quick! Thanks for the answers! I have another query ... Shall I just buy the DDJ1000 and is it you top choice? I had some CDJ1000 mk3s and standalone pioneer mixer 6 years ago, so it seems like a natural fit. Would you have another recommendation? I'd like it somewhat portable and doesn't need to be completely standalone...
@@johnnyyoung8460 I love my DDJ-1000! It’s the perfect mix of versatile, portable, and powerful for me. I don’t have much experience outside of Pioneer, though. I’ve found no need to shop around. :)
@@SmilestonesDJAdventures Perfect. And I've subscribed. Thanks for being so wonderfully helpful! And your videos are so well structured and laid out. Keep it up!
Your like the best teacher on UA-cam! Have a little question, so, does the music on your computer take a lot of memory? And how many gigs do you have on your computer? Bc you said you don’t use an external Hard drive, just curious. I wish you made a video where you show how to import music from a WiFi external hard drive.
Hey thanks Ignacio!! I have about 7000 tracks and it’s about 60GB on my internal drive, so not that bad. Once a year I go through and remove/delete old songs or remixes that I didn’t play the whole year or don’t feel have a purpose. I have all of my gigs / event playlists on my laptop in my rekordbox - ever simce I started using it. So about 3 years worth, which is about 120 events I think
Thank you, you have helped me so much, I appreciated you sharing with us.
You’re welcome Anthony!
Super helpful thank you! Go buffs.
Thanks! Go Buffs! :)
