Boris Spassky breaks the Iron man

- Featured is the 19th game from the 1969 World Chess Championship match between Boris Spassky and Tigran Petrosian. The opening is a Sicilian Defense, Najdorf with 6. Bg5. Initially, the play by “Iron Tigran” may seem to be solid after the first 14 moves. However, with Spassky's 15th move, Petrosian is reminded of a serious drawback with his earlier h6, particularly in an opposite sides castles scenario. Spassky's energetic play on the kingside led to a swift and rare 24-move defeat of the defending World Chess Champion, Petrosian.

I see Spassky in the title, I click.
Spassky is an underrated great
I see Tigran Petrosian, I click.
I see chessnetwork video, I click
I see dead people. All the time.
@@achillesyoutube8773 In my opinion, he might be THE most underrated of all the legendary players. I know that's a hot take, but again, just my personal opinion.
Not an easy man to beat Petrosian, this shows what a great attacker spassky was, thanks jerry.
The ending of this game kind of reminds me of that magic trick where they put someone in a box and stab swords through it at every angle.
Hi Jerry! I love your clearheaded and logical analysis. You make every move make sense.
Thank you Paul. 👍
@ChessNetwork I second this compliment, so many ChessTubers have an annoying habit of going off on tangents about what *they* would have done differently. Luckily, you don't. You get that most people watch famous games to learn why the actual players did what they did.
This game is a thing of beauty. Superb Sicilian Najdorf play by Spassky.
Shows how good Spassky was!
As always both your choice and analysis were awesome. Thank you
Loving this consistent content Jerry!
Brilliant attack by Spassky, I see now why Fischer was so psyched out by him.
What a nice game 👌 enjoyed it
Nice to watch both game and analysis.
Beautiful game! Thank you Jerry!
Brillant analysis and commentary
That was a great Match and in it Spassky showed why he was the King. I am sure when Fischer saw this game he was worried about how he was to defend against 1.e4 from Spassky. People say, even Spassky himself said that he was not an exact opening specialist. I think this game shows he was. Spassky preceded Magnus, Kasparov, and Fischer in playing firm, direct and forceful play leading to successful attacks in the Middle Game. Keep showing more of Spassky as there is much to be learned from him.
Wow thanks for sharing this sparkling attacking game from Spassky!
At the end of your video you make everyone a little bit wiser. That's all I can say for the life of a chess player. It's a battle it's a struggle and there's nothing that anyone's giving, just one game that your trying to win. Loved the video. Keep up the excellent work.
I really like the way you explain this. Thanks. Sometimes I don't get it from the first time, but 3rd time usually helps.
That was awesome. Thank you.
Yeah, Boris Spassky Was no slouch. He was one of the few players that stood a chance against Fisher.
Fischer beat the weakest chess World champion Boris Spassky only 17 wins 10 losses! Capablanca would beat Spassky easily 8 wins 6 draws zero losses! Carlsen would beat Spassky easily 6 wins 6 draws zero losses! Fischer beat Spassky 10 wins 15 draws 5 losses in 1992! Spassky was rated 2558 and Spassky was ranked only 162th world ranking! Fischer score 58,33% against Spassky in 1992!So we get Fischer rating 2617,78 in 1992! Crazy lunatic Yasser Seirawan claiming wrongly that Fischer was world record power and form in 1992! The highest tournament elo rating score is Fabiano Caruana 8,5/10 StLouis elo score 3080! Karpov 11/13 in Linares 1994 elo score 3040! Alekhine in San Remo 1930 elo score 3040! Fischer and Kasparov their Best tournament scores only 2990! Lasker won the New York Tournament in 1924 beating world Best scoring 2875 elo at age 55! Fischer 2617,78 at age 49 vs Lasker 2875 at age 55! The crazy people claiming that Carlsen would lose against Fischer big time! Carlsen is 100xtimes better than Spassky who beat Fischer 10 times! Carlsen would beat Fischer 25-30 times easily!!
Nice to see you back, Jerry.
That Knight on D4 is INSANELY GOOD!!! Great game choice as always. Thanks mate 😊
Wonderful !
great as always
Thank you, Jerry!
Wonderful game
Well presented.
Thank you Jerry!
What a monster of a light square bishop!😮
Petrosian holding his head into the lion's mouth. His trainer Suetin recalls how they warned him not to play that line, but Petrosian wouldn't listen. Andy Soltis speculated the Champ was tired of reigning. Spassky in his element.
gorgeous
brillant
Only Spassky’s and Fisher’s attacks can break Petrosian’s “Iron” Prevention strategy.
I remember a Kasparov game where he dismantled Petrosian completely as well. Petrosian could barely develop his pieces.
Well... Yep!
Guys, does Jerry no longer post his own games? Do I need to watch the streams for those? Thanks
Watching the streams is your best bet!
If only I knew when there are “only moves”
I've actually had that exact line with an early b5?! And even h6?? Ne6! about three times in my own blitz games!
I am always a move behind, or ahead, depending on the way you look at it. 😅
Peak
I would have played that game quite differently. And I would have lost!
Jerry legendo
A gentleman,on or off the board..zHe is very gracious, whether he won or lose a game.
Hi Jerry.
poisonous tricky knights = )
:( no stockfish analysis, i wanted to see where it went wrong
It's at the end of the video
:)
At the end, instead of taking the knight with the h pawn, why not take it with the Queen? A queen for a rook and a right does not sound so bad.
You’d win the Knight with check right after. So you’d be sacrificing a Queen for a Rook, and your position is shattered either way.
A Rook and a Knight just to clarify no biggie ☮️
1:10 is a massive blunder on so many levels. If black pulls it back i'll be surprised
MOZART!!
Spassky is so underrated wtf?
0:57 as white i simply play a3 the poison pawn
In 69, USSR Chess Federation supremacy was undeniable. Fischer, the flash in the pan neurotic American, got the first external cracks into that supremacy while Korchnoi was showing the internal cracks. In 75, Karpov got his first world title by forfeit. Inactive since 72, Fischer did not fight Karpov but FIDE. In 85, a non Russian, Kasparov threw the last blow at the USSR Chess Federation supremacy defeating the last soviet chess symbol, Karpov.
First! Hey Jerry.
The first
