If it wasn't for shooters like Turok 2, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Perfect Dark and Golden Eye, I doubt the N64 would be successful without these masterpieces. It proved that first-person shooters can work on consoles just as well as PC and Macs.
The N64 was THE fps console of its day. The only fps the Play Station had back then that made anywhere near the sizable splash the N64's games did was the very first Medal of Honor game and that was pretty rough around the edges when compared to what you could play on the N64.

Turok was a great part of my childhood, so many memories playing this game having so much fun, but at the same time being scared af because of how dark Turok was lol Greetings from Viña del Mar, Norway
Mr. Mitchell, this melody is worthy of being in the top 10 of all-time video games. A tremendous piece of music, it is a masterpiece. It has been more than 25 years since I heard it for the first time and I have never forgotten it. Your work is sublime and deserves to be remembered forever.
Decades passing, you come back to some musics. This one is one of them. The mix between danger and melancholia brings it a strong personnality. Good job Darren!
My favorite track in T2. I remember doing my homework while listening to this via the sound options in the N64 version. :-) I always liked the part starting at 3:17 with the added violins and strong drums.
Oh man, the composer himself has a youtube channel? I cannot even begin to fathom how many sleepless nights i spent back in 2000 playing this game just for the badass soudtrack that it had, I mean the game itself was awesome but your music in particular hit this game just right. This song in particular has always been one of my absolute favorites, The Port of Aidia as well, they just encapsulate everything this game is, you a hunter, alone in ruined cities hunting dinosoids, zombies, aliens and everything in between with just your guts, a bow a gauntlet and a pistol and shotgun hoping that the noise you heard around the corner you have enough ammo to blow apart before it rips you open. Your music man, holds a special place in my childhood and heart. Thank you.
i used to play this level over and over on my N64. The graphics was so good back then and the atmosphere on these levels were stunning and oh boy that shotgun was good to this music when you fired it. PAAWW Tik Tik PAAW. Miss my childhood.
You did great work for this soundtrack. There was enough to the music that it stayed memorable, but it never got over-bearing. It was great background music for a game where you spent a fair amount of time backtracking and exploring. Nothing ever stood out too much that it got annoying to hear, but there was enough to listen to without making it to mellow to care.
Hey Darren, i just wanted to say that my father used to play this game when i was 4 years old. Now i'm 23 and every now and then my brother and i replay it together because of the memories. Your melodies accompanied me throughout my life and i can't thank you enough for it.
This was always my favorite level in the game no matter how large and confusing it was. It really felt like I was liberating a city under occupation by an invading army.
I remember not having a memory card for the longest time, playing port of adia over and over again. eventually one day i decided to keep my n64 on the whole day and i got to this level, this song blew my balls off 3:18 always sends me elsewhere. i ended up getting a memory pak and finished the game.

Many years ago. 4 player split screen battles were rampant no internet connections needed , no dam DLc or skins, just straight blasting each other to pieces 😂
This entire music is a total awesomeness, but from 2:43 to 3:58 is a part when I lose myself. The choir harmony from 3:00 to 3:17 gives me goosebumps (since 1999) every single time I listen to this theme. And last, but never least, an epic melody starts, just "to close with a gold key" (an expression in portuguese - I don't know if it exists in english - used to describe something flawlessly accomplished). Thank you, Darren! In the 90s I couldn't even imagine I could thank you, but today, fortunatelly the internet can give me this chance. Greetings from Brazil!
We all remember and love these songs because besides being excellent compositions, they are part of the action, the ambientation and were your partner during the journey through the game. I can't remember a song from any of the games I have in PS4 they are absent, dull, or playing in the background. Long live the classic video games and Turok 2.

Love the soundtrack to Turok 2. I couldn't begin to count the number of hours my brother and I spent as kids trying to learn all the secrets of this game. Meanwhile, this amazing soundtrack was playing in the back the whole time. The theme songs to our adventures. So grateful that I was able to experience this growing up and as an adult now
The music in this game really does make you feel like the fate of the world rests on your shoulders. It really does make you feel like your actions have meaning. Makes you feel like a hero. This music in this game is so good i listen to it all day at work with one earbud
Played this new, played this yesterday on my xbox one. Still get chills and a feeling of doom and a feeling that something is wrong here. Love this sound track
This is one of my favorite video game OST's of all time. And as a writer, I find so much inspiration in the songs. They've helped write some of my best stories. Thank you for your work on this soundtrack, it's truly one of the best of all time.
Somehow this is the track i am most nostalgic of. You created magic here Darren. And i played all turoks from 1 to Rage Wars (not evo). Campaigners fortress was also eerie and printed into my dna.
Grew up playing this game on the Nintendo 64 along with Turok 1, fast forward several years later i got to be a part of the Remasters done by Nightdive studios helping revive these legendary games and the music is one of the big things that stuck with me in the Turok series and this is one of the tracks that I loved the most!
Its a damn shame games aren't made by people that love the hobby anymore, but instead by lunatics trying to push their political agendas into everything, thanks for those remasters, both were excellent.
I would go as far as saying that after 30 years of video gaming across multiple platforms from Amigas to Pcs to Ps5 & everything in between this is quite possibly the best track of any game not just FPS. Still listening over 20 years later.
I remember finding a PC-CD of this game in one of those cardboard casing at a flea market when i was around 7 years old. My mother was hesitant about it, but i insisted that it would mean so much to me and we asked how much they wanted for it. just about one dollar (more or less as the dollar is not my currency) and i was so happy. When i played it for the first time i had no idea what i was doing or what i even was supposed to do. I never even beat the first level but the music jwas so amazing that i just kept playing it anyways. After a few years i managed to get to the second level and realised that there was even more music. I looked online to find a way to unlock the other levels and when finding the "big cheat" I instantly checked the music from the other levels, and I have never felt so overwhelmed by such a fantastic soundtrack. I'm 30 now and this is still by far the most amazing soundtrack for any game that I have ever played. Thank you so much for the amazing memories i have with this game.
This mans work is incredible and this is one of his best tracks for sure. If I had a successful multi-million dollar game development company this dude would be my go to guy for soundtracks. 👏👏👏
I'm so pissed music like this is no longer common, everything now has to be a bland orchestral music that isn't supposed to impact gameplay, I miss getting hyped to the music while playing.
Although a few games still have some gem soundtracks i have to agree. A large amount at least in the AAA industry rely on actually songs from music artists or some generic soundtracks that sound almost the same with the similar soulless vibe to it. Many older games had a stronger identity because they had some stand out soundtracks that fit the game and what it represented. I think unique ost that are made specific for a game makes that game way more memorable, it can have such an impact on the overall experience. For me Halo ce is one example, sonic mania also did a good job.
6 years later from this posting (and much much longer in regards to me playing the game and being 37 now). Whenever I think of Turok 2 this track is the first thing that comes to my mind
Sorry to add another comment, my mom and dad's parents are Hispanic Indian, don't know what tribe, but makes me proud to have native American blood in me
The soundtrack to my Christmas 1998. Thank you, Darren! This and Port of Adia have stuck with me ever since. Edit: 2:43 onwards still gives me goosebumps. And when those strings kick in... I've no words.
Man each one of these songs represents a piece of my childhood. That's what you gave to me. More than just musical accompaniment to gameplay but the ability to hear this and return to a simpler time in my life. Thank you
Played this game 20 years ago now, and that last half of the soundtrack always stuck with me. Took a couple songs but then found this song! Idk what inspired me too look this up but glad I did! Your music should be in more games!
My favorite track from the game, this along with the Title theme which seems one of them derived from another I think. What is impresive, is the usage of the Limited Instruments of the N64 to get this! I even preefer this version over the CD one.
Some of the finest video game music ever composed! It’s probably been well over 10 to 15 years since I last played the game and I’m not even sure if my memory could remember how to get around those maps anymore, but I will ALWAYS remember the music! Fantastic stuff!
Darren Mitchell is the goat. Also, btw, is there ever a chance that Turok will return in a future game? (I have an idea to continue the storyline but I don't know who to go to )
I want this song playing at my funeral.

this one and port of adia to me are excellent, congratulations for your great songs this game was a huge part of my childhood because of them.
This had last stage vibes, easily one of the most epic tracks on here,
And it has plenty
I remember scoring this game from a friend he didn’t want it and I was like 👍🏼
This been my favorite track and I wondered if I got lost on purpose just to listen to this
Thank you man for this masterpiece
Love the soundtrack to Turok 2. I couldn't begin to count the number of hours my brother and I spent as kids trying to learn all the secrets of this game. Meanwhile, this amazing soundtrack was playing in the back the whole time. The theme songs to our adventures. So grateful that I was able to experience this growing up and as an adult now
Love those strings!! It is the calling card of Turok 2!
You don't just listen you were given a mission. To carry on tradition.
Thanks for the great memories Mr Mitchell! One of my favorite games of all time.
Eres un gran compositor mi amigo gracias por éste tema, son muchos recuerdos para mi. De nuevo gracias
the greatest battle music ever made imo
Me: Playing the remastered Turok II... Wife "This sounds like news channel music for important news" FML
This is one of my favorite video game OST's of all time. And as a writer, I find so much inspiration in the songs. They've helped write some of my best stories. Thank you for your work on this soundtrack, it's truly one of the best of all time.
Destroy 2 soul gates.
Destroy the 3 sisters of despair.
Consider it done, Adon.
Somehow this is the track i am most nostalgic of. You created magic here Darren. And i played all turoks from 1 to Rage Wars (not evo). Campaigners fortress was also eerie and printed into my dna.
Playing as Turok builds confidence.
Ohhhh yeah he's so courageous ❤❤
The memories are Flooding back to me now. And even better from the man himself. Thank you, truly; for being a part of our childhoods growing up. ❤
My favorite level in the game. So fun. Full of stuff to shoot at.
THE BEST MUSIC OF N64
The raptor class was so satisfying
Doom Eternal is an awesome game with an outstanding soundtrack just like this one!
Doom 2016 same!
@@MrPyroguru Yeah, Doom is an exception
6 years later from this posting (and much much longer in regards to me playing the game and being 37 now). Whenever I think of Turok 2 this track is the first thing that comes to my mind
Sorry to add another comment, my mom and dad's parents are Hispanic Indian, don't know what tribe, but makes me proud to have native American blood in me
Right in the feel, this song was a huge part of my childhood. that and picking a 1-up and hearing I! AM TUROK!
The soundtrack to my Christmas 1998. Thank you, Darren! This and Port of Adia have stuck with me ever since.
Edit: 2:43 onwards still gives me goosebumps. And when those strings kick in... I've no words.
Me:Give me the aux cord
Friend:You better not play trash!
Me:
Adding the oboe to this piece was a wonderful idea, Darren
Man each one of these songs represents a piece of my childhood. That's what you gave to me. More than just musical accompaniment to gameplay but the ability to hear this and return to a simpler time in my life.
Thank you
Best music in the game.
Played this game 20 years ago now, and that last half of the soundtrack always stuck with me. Took a couple songs but then found this song! Idk what inspired me too look this up but glad I did! Your music should be in more games!
So jovial yet epic for a theme featuring a river of death lol.
This is part of my "Going on a Quest" soundtrack. 😊
My favorite track from the game, this along with the Title theme which seems one of them derived from another I think.
What is impresive, is the usage of the Limited Instruments of the N64 to get this!
I even preefer this version over the CD one.
Omg goosebumps literally 😮😮😮😮❤❤❤ i love this game and its music , hope to see a turok game in modern consoles 😢
masterpiece
This is PURE MAGIC. Dude, i LOVE your job but especially this one, with this soundtrack. Holy sh***t ...
(I have an idea to continue the storyline but I don't know who to go to )
River of Souls, so basically the River Styx?
If you weren't playing Goldeneye on your N64 as a kid you were probably playing Turok instead.
Yep.
No huge spiders in dark tunnels in Goldeneye my friend...
chilllllsssss !!!!!!!
Game soundtracks are underappreciated in their importance to making a great game. T2 and its soundtrack is one of the goats.
This Level is the one i liked not so much like others!
