Pierre Van Der Linden is one of my most favorite drummers of all time due to his great playing with Focus and on this album! I'm particularly fond of A Memory/The Lost Past/A Memory! I love the whole arrangement and Pierre's playing is fantastic! It's best to listen to the whole thing all the way through with no interruptions but after the solo when A Memory comes back in it destroys me with joy every time I hear it! :-) It never gets old!

Fantastic album! One of the best prog rock album I have heard and Trace´s best album. Since I discovered this album this album back in February 2016, I have been hooked at it. Please note the distant voices from 3:21 - 3:30 in the background harmonizing to the organ.
The voice sounds are from a Mellotron, almost certainly an M400, which was the single-manual white model. You can see it to RVDL's left in some of the videos of the band.
By the way there will be soon a new recordings from the TRACE period. His wife Inez van der Linden that she is in the studio's for making old material new with all the studio possibilities.
Just a remark on track 4 The Death Of Ace. This is a piece from the Peer Gynt Suite (1875) by Norwegian composer Edward Grieg and "Ace" should have been spelled Ase or Aase. Trace handled this sensitive piece with care, but if you can take the time, listen to the original, it will move you.
Apparently the band was originally called Ace, but there was already another band with that name, likely the British band with Paul Carrack so they renamed themselves Trace.
Me like some friends here from Brasil love this uncridible band.
First time i heard this group was around 1974, on the fm radio, and the musico was "progression" and i said: this is really incredible. but i never had the vinil record
How is the bassist (Jaap Van Eik) able to play that incredible sequence starting from 30:00 to 30:40, it is super difficult and most bass players would have the hardest time trying to nail the part! I do not think Squire, Geddy Lee, M. Rutherford, J. Entwistle , Jack Bruce or any other would be able to play that part. Jaap Van Eik was , hands down, one of the best bass players at that time!
Amazing record! What a jamming! What a musicianship! I miss that kind of approach to the Music today, Thanks for sharing! A Memory wasn't on the original LP I presume? The tune is "Fäbodpsalm by Oskar Lindberg", a Swedish folktune.

In addition, each album contains bonus tracks, featuring outtakes, demos and live material. Trace has been expanded to a double CD, featuring over 100 minutes of extra tracks, while Birds contains a rare single edit of the title track and one hour of pure ‘Trace on stage’, recorded in Sweden and Germany. The White Ladies features some raw sketches and mixes of album tracks, as well as an overture Fugue on the pipe organ during one of the last ever gigs that the band gave in 1977. All three albums come in beautifully designed gatefold sleeves featuring rare photos and exclusive new interviews with Jaap van Eik, Ian Mosley, engineer Jan Schuurman and arranger Job Maarse. With these long anticipated reissues, the Trace story is now finally displayed in the most honest and correct way. 2CD TRACE - Trace + 17 bonus tracks 2CD TRACE - Birds + 10 bonus tracks CD TRACE - The White Ladies + 14 bonus tracks records at www.centertainment.nl
