not soon enough go back to the 2014 jerseys or use the purple rr as home the new rr or old home or current home as alt and make a white version as away
I think a few teams could wait for the next jersey provider to overhaul their uniforms. Of course, the Reebok Edge jersey had so many teams completely change when they came in 2007. Some of it was because they weren't able to replicate the intricate designs of the 90's and early 00's like Dallas. But many of them were just Reebok I guess really, *really* pushing their own models and templates. And everyone hated that. Adidas was more careful about changing designs for the sake of changing designs, but Minnesota and, inexplicably, Edmonton went through a radical change. I could see teams like Washington and Anaheim changing their looks, but as for the batch of teams that went back to their classic look in the last three years - CGY, EDM, OTT, BUF and yes, Arizona, I see no reason for that. As of now, Edmonton is the only team to have ever gotten back to a classic look only to switch it up again (and then came back to their original jersey designs). Teams nowadays prefer to invest energy in third jerseys, outdoor jerseys, retro jerseys (like Vancouver or St.Louis bringing back their 90's look once in a while) and the occasional RR to sell additional merch. I know RR is unlikely to come back for round 3, but I wouldn't rule out the NHL having another league-wide jersey program like that in the future considering the level of success and profit they made with that.
Here’s the thing Arizona Dept of Transportation has a howling Coyote license plate, and is supposed to change it in Dec to a Kachina plate. If the plate gets delayed or canceled you have your answer. If no cancellation then plan on Yotes having Kachina into the future.
I'm honestly hoping the red Howling Wolf comes back and keep Kachina as a occasional alternate. The burgundy/white design of the past logo was fine, the team just didn't win much in it, if ARZ actually got a stadium and gave confidence to fans they could be good, the older colors (which I prefer would have been embraced more)
Personally, I really hope the Kachina logo / uniforms stay in the Coyotes lineup! I feel like they're some of, if not, the most unique uniforms in the NHL - they have so much personality and character to offer to the franchise. I feel like those iconic patterns, logo, and color scheme should stick around for seasons to come.
not soon enough go back to the 2014 jerseys or use the purple rr as home the new rr or old home or current home as alt and make a white version as away
This makes no sense. These just came out and a lot of Coyotes fans love them. What makes this even more confusing is the fact that their affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners, are about to debut a white kachina jersey of their own to go with their black and purple kachina jerseys. There was an announcement at the game against CV Firebirds this past Saturday.
Well when the NHL switched to the RBK Edge jerseys there were changes to almost every team's jerseys I think because of how the jerseys were structured. It's possible that this is true and not limited to just Arizona.
I would dread lightly on info you heard from some guy you randomly know. Unless he knows which company brand whatever will get the rights to the uniforms how would he know Arizona would want to get rid of the Kachina unless they have to?
Is it possible that they are considering changing to one of (maybe both??) of the RR (or something similar) instead of the current home and away? They’ve both been very popular 🤷🏻♂️
Get rid of it! This foray into the desert has been such a disaster. We have been so patient. Imagine if we had know when they moved that they would be playing in a college rink that seats 6,000 by 2022. Move them. Destroy all memory!
This would be a HUGE MISTAKE by the Coyotes if they do that!! And i think they will LOSE a LOT of their fan base if they do that!! I really hope they listen to their fans and their fan base and keep the GREAT jerseys they have now!! I love the return to the glory days when they had the star power that they did!!
They are banking on the Tempe proposal to fail so they wanna create as much fan apathy as possible so make sure there's 0 blowback if they move to Houston or something. The Oakland A's are doing the same thing
Hey I mean it would maybe make the kachina jersey more rare and valuable- I don’t think it’s ever a good idea when something gets exhausted when they sue for too many years and it’s not cool anymore, the kachina jerseys were so popular that I needed sup buying one for the full 200$ car on adidas webesite because I k ew they would never go on sale, u too this day there are only a couple left in size double extra small so maybe the rarity of them would. Be cool if they did change the jersey
Would you be interested in trading that Green RR Devils jersey behind you? I have an adidas white green and red jersey with Hischier on the back. Could we make a deal?
Personally I'm not a huge fan of the kachina jerseys. They're good jerseys but I don't love them as much as everyone else does. If they were to change I would be welcome to that. I think if they modernized the kachina that could be really cool. Or if they merged the kachina and yawning coyotes. If this is real I'm optimistic this could be something really cool
I wonder if it has to do with changing everyone’s mindset from the arena, calls for relocation and such. Almost acting like a clean slate….just a though
Personally speaking, this look just isn't main jersey uni IMHO. There are several 90s unis that are main uni worthy (Van, Winnipeg, Anaheim, and some that just don't have longevity, the Kachina being one example. This also makes sense from a business POV, if they move to Tempe its like a fresh start, why bring something that is a reminder of the mickey mouse charade the team has been for so long. They have lots of beautiful colors to work with and creating a whole new look to go with the new arena is a great way to build off the excitement while closing the door on a tumultuous past. I know they won't do it but I wish they would change the team name. It's hard to turn some animals into logos that don't come off as overly cheesy, the ducks work because it's in the shape of a mask and the nucks orca works due to the Haida influence. Just my opinion.
The only way I would be happy if Arizona changed their Home and Away is that when they get their new jerseys they need to look exactly what they have right now but with the scene that the 2 reverse retro jerseys have had at the bottom.
They might just have a redesigned/modern version of the kachina… also, if there’s a franchise that could use a boost in sales I guess Arizona would be the one and new jerseys could do that lol
I could see them trying to sort of relaunch the brand when they open their new stadium. Could still stick with the kachina but maybe release some fresh new primary jerseys the same season the stadium opens its doors just to spark up as much hype as possible.
So they are about to get a new stable stadium for 20 years and they are gonna destroy their fan base. Brilliant job once again by management in Arizona.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they finally move to a proper arena in Tempe in 3-4 years that the owner would like to show off new uniforms for the long run.
Yeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhh. That isn't happening. As a resident of AZ & a Yotes fan, whomever your source is fed ya a dumpster load of BS. If I had to guess, probably John Gambadoro. I hope ya have mouthwash CAUSE... the Kachina aligns with the transition to their new arena & an important piece of that puzzle. Maybe confer w/Craig Morgan of PHNX Sports next time?
I saw one video Icethetics made on the importance of moving forward in design and not getting stuck in the past. I think Arizona getting a brand new uniform/logo could help get new fans in. When you think about it, there will be a lot of time for retro jerseys, why not try something new to bring in a new generation. I get what you say. It's nostalgia for you, but why not create something new that will be nostalgia in a few decades? Would be nice to get something new with the kachina as the alternate, but it sll depends on if the potential rebrand will be any good. That's at least what I think.

Well I’m glad I bought one last week if this actually happens. Coyotes would be dumb to get rid of one of the most iconic jerseys in NHL history. Moving away from the Kachina was a mistake in the first place and fans voiced their displeasure. To do it again to their fans after the previous backlash could have even worse backlash and long lasting effects to merch revenue. Neil is right, what’s the point of bringing back the Kachina just a couple years ago and then completely change it? Just doesn’t make any sense from a branding and merchandise standpoint.
Hey Neil! Thanks for making this. It honestly wouldn’t shock me if they did something new, for two reasons. 1, it would make them more money. As you know, new jerseys almost always equal more money. And 2, I think there’s just been so much organizational change over the last few years and so much more to come that I think this ownership group wants to have their own identity. And by the time the new manufacturer kicks in, there will have been enough time passed to where they could justify it. Plus with a new arena on the horizon, the team coming out of the rebuild in a couple years, it all kinda comes together and doesn’t shock me that there’s a potential change. Having said that, the owners have been vocal about how much they love our logos. I don’t think the logo changes. It is so uniquely Arizona that I don’t think that changed and I think the fans would riot if that did. What they probably would do is a modern Kachina, which I think would be okay. The problem with all of this though is that there would be immense pressure to get it right. These are legendary jerseys like you said and we don’t want to see them go away. But if they do, they have to nail it. They have to get it right. So for me, modernizing the Kachina jersey but retaining the logos is the way to go IF you want to make a change.
I’m sure they’ll just use the space coyote head (as in the reverse retros) . IMO, that’s what they should have always done when going back to their roots. The full kachina is too detailed and complex to scale down. This makes sense.
I don't dislike the Kachina but I think I like it more than the coyote logo they had a few years ago. They could probably use a rebrand and then pick the colors from either era.
I cannot imagine they would be moving on from the Kachina so soon, especially after just completely rebranding back to it. Maybe the team is planning on releasing new jerseys for the inaugural season at the new proposed arena? That would be my best guess tbh. If anything I would bet that they keep the Kachina/space Coyote logos but update the overall design of the jersey, maybe to something more modern.
The Coyotes just hired an internal branding fashion designer not too long ago. He almost certainly wants to get his fingerprints on all things Coyotes brand. When you're a team like the Coyotes you have to do trendy things to get fans because there is almost nothing organically going for them, so the best thing for them to do with their style and their location is to try and intertwine with fashion. I think they'll keep Kachina elements if they do in fact switch, however I can see validity to the rumor as they have an owner and now designer who isn't afraid to take risks. When they get their Tempe arena I could see them going all in on starting from scratch. Who knows, maybe they even adopt Sun Devil's colors.
There team is bad and they have a small fan base. The only thing they have going for them is there look. If they get rid of it I believe there will leave Arizona
My only explanation for this is that maybe deep down, they’re leaving Arizona and preparing for a rebrand? Idk, that’s my only guess. That, or the new company replacing Adias is very tone deaf
I could totally see the organization wanting a fresh start in a new building after all of the drama, and I could see Bettman etc. being on board. Personally, their white Reebok was one of my favorites in the league but the kachina is classic and it is clearly their biggest asset from a business angle. Dumping it would be a huge mistake, especially if they are able to grow a strong, young fan base of early 20’s kids with disposable incomes following the team post-ASU.

I was pissed the first time they changed it. I blamed Wayne Gretzky.
Can’t use the same jerseys when the team moves to a different city

Arizona Coyotes in Mr.Krabs Voice: Money!
I'd imagine that they want to have a new look when they start playing their new arena when that eventually gets built
