Some cats aren't comfortable with their paws being touched. Try building up trust by stroking their paws when they sleep. For the training part, you can start with a touchless trick like "up" or "spin". I'm busy with the spin video. Hopefully, we will be able to put it up next week.
@@MomoSiamese I can confirm that. Cat needs to be relaxed to allow to be touched on more sensitive parts. I would not be able to trim my cat claws, if he does not want to offer a paw.
Just don’t do tricks that require any grabbing or holding of paws. By nature, they don’t want their paws touched (let alone held). High five amd , choosing which hand a perfect alternative. I trimmed my cats nails basically everyday as a kitten. I barely trimmed anything off, but it’s a Better method for me than trying to trim longer nails. I never really grabbed at my cats paws because I know they don’t like it. But my cat doesn’t really bat an eye if I touch, hold, pet his paws. He doesn’t like that he has to sit still when I trim his nails, but he doesn’t care if I do it. Now he’s just over a year and I trim a few different claws different days of the week because he’s so cooperative. But I still avoid ‘tricks’ that involve things cats inherently dislike such as, shake. At this point my Siamese cat does some tricks, but they’re really related to games he likes to play. I am doing things all the time to keep him stimulated. I cut out different patterns of holes in boxes so he can try and get toys out. I put different blankets or old sheets over different tunnels or stools or chairs and he hides And plays around in that for hours (especially if I play hide and seek). I literally spend no less than two hours a day engaging him in some sort of activities. As a result, his ‘tricks’ are really a consequence of games he enjoys.. Be creative. I am continuously finding great humor in what my cat enjoys doing rather than a few commands. As you’ll see by the video above, she and the cat are enjoying the interaction and that’s why it’s so cool. Anyone can have a cat that will unenthusiastically train their owner to give them treats. No point if your cat is miserable. But building interaction where both the cat and cat parent are having fun is what it is all about

i started with directionals, name recall, followed by wiggling a finger that they have to touch with a paw, then to flat hand, then to high 5. I have 3 babies and one has moved on to tricks like turning around and standing, the other two are stuck on finger the wiggle.
My cat was easier she was like TEACH ME PAAW and pawed my hand first try lol Edit : thx for the likes its the most ive ever had and my cat turned into a boy ;-;
I would be taking a shower when this brown arm would reach around the shower curtain and start waving frantically. I would look around the curtain and the look on our seal points face was priceless! "Why are you in THERE? I'll save you! Take my hand, hurry!" Probably my favorite memory of her.

Wichien Maat here in Thailand are quite less active and more shy. I can make one gives a hand automatically in a couple of hours. I didn't mean to boast, if the cat is easily trained a lesson then that lesson tends to be forgotten very soon as well. So it more depends on the time you spend with teaching.
I have recently tried to learn my cat to shake and this video really helped, i also figured out that my cat understands the screen and did way better after he saw the video of your cat shaking

I have two Siamese girl kitties that will be two yrs old on April 20th. Millie and Tilly. They fetch and give me a high fives! And they keep me very warm at night under my blanket! I even get petted, and it just warms my heart!
My cat knows sit, so I'm teaching him paw, so far he thinks swatting the paw at my hand will work. Lol so I'm trying to have him be less aggressive with it. It's a start. Haha when he does it gently then I give him the treat!

Haha keep at it. Momo is still very young so it was quite easy to get him to cooperate. All of our other cats that are older don't want to play along either. They just want to go right to the food. Just keep working on it every day and he'll get it eventually.

Hi! Rescuer here: maine coons are the best for human tricks; my first rescue actuslly taught other cats how to be gregarious and loving with new guests and OTHER ANIMALS! awesome energy around the house; they DO NEED outdoors and sunlight though.
My mom loves Maine Coons and may one day get one. We usually just go to our vet or local shelter and get rescues... Momo just happened to be a siamese rescue.
My cat nala learned the paw trick in 1 day. However she taught herself how to open our sliding closet doors and fetch on her own. She is very smart. She is a American shorthair dilute calico
They’re both beautiful kitties. They’re also both extremely intelligent. My Siamese has zero interest in treats and is not motivated by food. But he is highly motivated by play. He literally plays hide and seek, fetch (on his terms), catch among other things
Leica my oriental shorthair learnt this without treats. Just giving extra pats on head when she did it. She loved to play fetch as kitten. Again she dudnt need treats. I could see her struggle to focus on fetching outside with birds chirping but she would manage to stay on task. Definitly got attitudes and brains of her siamese ancestors. She is slowing down now at nearly 14 due to arthritus but still shakes hands.

We had another oriental when I was a teenager and he was pretty clever, figured out window security catches and how to get out his cage. My mum bread siamese in the 70s so grew up around these beautiful intelligent breeds.

I think with cats it's important to play to their strength. We tried teaching the others to give paw too but they were very uncomfortable with their paws being touched so we let it be. If you really want them to learn, positive reinforcement is key. Make sure to give them lots of treats so they learn that their paw being held is a good thing.

Excellent. Did same with my little stray cutie. Didn't have cat treats at the time. Used CHEETOS. 😂 He's now 10. He's given paw since 4 months old, without treats. Give him ONE Cheeto now maybe 3x's a year for the helluva it. 😁
Keep trying. It might be that they are too old and might jusy take a while. One of our cats also refuses to give paw and unfortunately I think its a lost cause.

We started when Momo was just under a year. His attention span was just too short as a kitten 😂 but you can always try! Your kitty might be more focused than Momo.
I think you need to try and get it to be comfortable with your touch first. Try giving it a treat and then taking a paw to make a positive correlation.
I want to teach my Lil boi to give paw, but his previous owner played with him using her hands and now he bites your hand if you touch his paws or belly :(( What should I do??
I'm no expert so I am only going what I might try. I think you should try starting off by getting him to learn that biting is bad. Try rewarding him when you manage to play with him and he doesn't bite. Once you have changed that mindset teaching him paw will be easy.
We haven't taught those to Momo yet but he learned to sit while giving paw all on his own 😂 In general, it's very similar to training other animals but with more patience involved.
I trained my new rescue black cat to give me his paw. I'm so surprised with how fast he has learned, it only took 4 days! I taught him to give paw with hand signals but during the process of learning to give me his paw, he also learned the voice command for sit! He's one of my only cats who learned his name straight away so I knew he was going to be a fast learner.
It's the same with Momo. He's so smart and pics up tricks so fast. We just did a video on doing high five. We are organising a bell to train him to use it.
I really try to learn it to my Norwegian forest cat. But he is so hyper to get the treat that he dont chill like your cat does. How do i remain him calm?
I think consistency is key. Keep working on it and reward him for being layed back. Wait for him to calm down, then give the treat. Hopefully this will slowly teach him that being softer gets rewarded. I hope that makes sense?
He wants to know why he has to shake for a treat and the other cats don’t. You need to think outside the box or put yourself in his paws 🐾 to fully understand.

Very true. We got Momo to do all these tricks for the video but then didn’t really continue to do them. He still does them when we ask though.

How do teach mine to sit and stay for a while.
We haven't taught those to Momo yet but he learned to sit while giving paw all on his own 😂 In general, it's very similar to training other animals but with more patience involved.

I am on day one! My cat has already been trained to sit, so that helps. I am planning on doing it 3x per day this week. We'll see how it goes 😊

Took me 3 days to train my chocolate point Max t give paw. we do high fie, give paw. paw bump. he seems to reponde to the comands also.

I trained my new rescue black cat to give me his paw. I'm so surprised with how fast he has learned, it only took 4 days! I taught him to give paw with hand signals but during the process of learning to give me his paw, he also learned the voice command for sit! He's one of my only cats who learned his name straight away so I knew he was going to be a fast learner.
It's the same with Momo. He's so smart and pics up tricks so fast. We just did a video on doing high five. We are organising a bell to train him to use it.

I really try to learn it to my Norwegian forest cat. But he is so hyper to get the treat that he dont chill like your cat does. How do i remain him calm?
I think consistency is key. Keep working on it and reward him for being layed back. Wait for him to calm down, then give the treat. Hopefully this will slowly teach him that being softer gets rewarded. I hope that makes sense?
He wants to know why he has to shake for a treat and the other cats don’t. You need to think outside the box or put yourself in his paws 🐾 to fully understand.
Momo may have attention deficit disorder if he can't focus and is easily distracted. LOL

They really do. Momo can be napping but if we go into the garden for any reason, he always needs to come with. He has total fomo 😂

What treat brand did you give?
Whatever brand happens to be lying around 😂 most often we use a local treat.
My stepdaughter taught our Heidi to 'give five' and 'high five'. I don't know if treats were involved.
We found that it was just easier at the time. Ideally you would use a clicker.
day 1: ooh .. bored. day 2: damn!! stressing, yo aren't Homer Simpson/Homer Thompson . .. day 3: the light in the end of tunnel. day 4: let's start the training. day 5: practice more XD

I taught my Scottish straight this and now he just comes to me at random moments and gives me his paw without me asking.
