Western Winter Steam

There's no better time to photograph steam locomotives than during the winter season, where cold temperatures create great billowing of steam and dramatic effects.
Travel to Colorado and Utah to enjoy two steam railroads running freight specials during the winter months.
Enjoy watching Union Pacific #618 running on the Heber Valley Railroad in Utah, running alongside the frozen Deer Creek Reservoir with beautiful mountains in the background.
Then travel to Colorful Colorado and the famous Durango & Silverton where locomotive #473 treats us to two days of freight action alongside the lovely Animas River, with cold temperatures and snow on the ground.

It may not be accurate to the past on 618 and it may not fit her, but I love hearing the southern bootleg on 618 again. My 2 favorite types of whistles are Longbell 3 chimes and hooter whistles so it’s no surprise. But if I had to choose what whistle does fit her the best, it would be her Star Brass 5 chime. Love seeing the D&S as well, it’s such an amazing classic. The best part about steam is when you go and see it when or if it snows. I just love the snow, it just looks beautiful despite the challenges it makes us face. Also I think I had the Durango and Silverton part on my dvd but not the 618 part.

Man I love that Southern hooter, easily one of my favorite whistles along side the Hayden & Gere hooter 618 wore when she was dressed up as 1068. Just something about the raspiness just hits right. Also loved 618’s backdated look.

At least we got to hear her UP 5 chime and an IC 3 chime in the video, as I feel the 5 chime would have fit better on her.
