      The flood are less...aesthetic. They don't have any real shape. While the prythoryn's actually have a defined physical form. (Or at least in space, on the ground they might just be shapeless horrors..)

    EASTER EGG: If your psionic, you can communicate with he Scourge. They are being chased by a race they call The Hunters, and that Prethoryn means survivor in their tongue. They arent laughing at you upon first contact. They are laughing that even if you beat them, you have no chance against The Hunters.

      They spawned in the middle of a battle between my fleets and a fallen empires fleet. Long story short all of us got destroyed and the empires that we used to call weak declared war on my federation. They basically slapped my ally and called it for peace. I nearly lost that game but I was able to build a massive fleet again and still thought for sure I was going to lose then bam fallen empire awakened and declared war on them attacking them from behind. I waited till their fleet power was inferior and moved in to take what was mine.

    I remember when this event first happened for me. A massive alliance war just ended, I finally broke my rivals, my colonies were prosperous, I had fleets of thousands, endless legions. However, then the war in heaven started, then the whole galaxy went to war.
    Countless systems ravaged
    Fleets lay to ruin
    The war economy in shambles
    We thought things couldn’t get any worst.
    Then they came
    Within just 10 years, they had destroyed one of the awakened empires.
    Consumed 50% of the galaxy
    Me and the few empires that remained made a truce, we took up arms, we put are petty grievances aside
    And took the battle to them
    Then paradox added synthetic dawn and made the save file not compatible.

    Buddy and I were playing on the console. They decided to spawn in my territory. The Zakuulan Ascendancy(my Empire) was the strongest in the galaxy with a 84K fleet. Other empires were barely scraping 25K. My friend warned me about the scourge, but I laughed in defiance thinking the Eternal Fleet could take them on. I was wrong. Their first invasions consisted of 5 60K fleets. I was uneasy, but felt I could still defeat them if I managed to catch one alone. Then phase two began, and I’m spawned 6 250K fleets. My buddy and I knew there was no time, so we combined our fleets, took control of our federation fleet, and went to hold them off for as long as we could. We managed to destroy one 250K Fleet, but as we retreated, we were caught in an ambush by two others. We didn’t dare retreat, instead we fought till our fleets were destroyed. We managed to heavily damage them, but it wasn’t enough. The scourge has came, and now it will purge us all.

    • @TOONYBOY
      @TOONYBOY 4 роки тому +4

      @shadowyeager For some reason 250 years into the game my 150K fleets WAS the strongest in the galaxy by a longshot (minus an Awakened Ascendancy and one other empire whom I equaled both, I don't know either) I know this because after my fleet was halved after about 10 victories against the Prethoryn (Do they ever fucking end?) Someone waged war on me and I had to wage war on someone else because they colonized a planet which cut off the hyperlane networks in my territory and each empire only had like 30K fleet power.

    • @TOONYBOY
      @TOONYBOY 4 роки тому +1

      @shadowyeager Well I'm on a new empire now (same setup just new game) because the "WAS" in my previous comment was due to the Prethoryn showing up. I didn't know how to go about fighting them but after annihilating a bunch of their fleets (in a 3v1 no less with about a 90K fleet) I've discovered that lasers are a good way to go about fighting them. If I had just waged a quick war against the weak ass empire in between me and the Prethoryn spawn points (it was their allies I didn't want to trigger) then I think I could have beaten them. I had 3000 naked corvettes but they were mainly using missiles. If I hadn't waited so long I think I could have beaten them

  • @kingfree4382
    @kingfree4382 8 років тому +345

    Suggestions for fighting the scourge:
    1. Kinectic weapons are useless. Torpedoes are useful for their high damage, but concentrate on energy weapons that penetrate armor.
    2. Create many corvettes and destroyers that have point defense systems, but do not forget to create almost the same with energy.
    3. Put everything in a defensive computer. That way, your ships will create a blob/bubble of ships. That is good because your point defense will be together and defending the rest of your fleet against their missiles, their most dangerous weapon.
    4. Your fleet must contain the greatest number of corvettes and destroyers. Battleships and cruisers are for support from the distance, not as important as the firsts.
    If you follow this, you might be able to take down a 30k fleet with a 11k fleet. That was the thing that happened to me.

      What do you mean it's useless? My 20k fleets armed with Kinetic Artillery could take on a 70k scourge fleet with minimal losses.

    • @TheR00k
      @TheR00k 8 років тому +10

      Friendly Nail Kinetic artillery is not the same as "kinetic weaponry". Large kinart has the range of 120, in the line with torpedoes and lances, which makes them incredibly useful against most kinds of weaponry, but it loses to lances in both damage and armor penetration.

    Finally got these guys, it’s been an interesting game playing as a Driven Assimilator. Being the black sheep of the galaxy, we began preparing for the crisis and or war in the heavens about 150 years before it hit. The organic races once all so determined in their unity to reject the machines have all finally come to stand behind me. My fleets barely managed to contain the initial invasions, so I pulled my forces back to regroup and heal letting the allied fleets move in to cover. Worst mistake ever, now my fleets are forced to dig in their heels, we’re winning this battle but the cost is so high. On the plus side, my game finally started moving at a normal speed again with all these ships destroyed.

Due to dumb luck, my psionic empire had a the following at the end of it: a fleet over 40k strength aided by a Baby Ether Drake which itself added another 14k all by itself, a Shroud Avatar (rating: skull), the Dreadnought (rating: 8k or so) and the Queen with her own fleet. We made short work of our enemies, including the old empires, afterward.

    The first time I encountered the crisis (contingency), I was in the middle of a galactic war, they spawned right next to my capital. I got absolutely destroyed.
    The second time, I played the whole game preparing for the crisis, taking the perks, uniting the galaxy, destroying the fallen empires. I built over 400 battleships and had over 2.5 million fleet power.
    So when the scourge eventually invaded, it was a bit anticlimactic (it was on normal difficulty I think, 1.5x).

    Just as the Feraxi Regime (My empire) looked like it was going to dominate my biggest rival (Saiban Sovereignty with fleet power of 89K) I got a scourge notification and that they were spawning between me and my vassel. I stayed to attack the Saiban as I thought I had about 3-10 years once they arrived, but they showed up the second I had defeated my adversary.
    My ships had high shield health and regeneration so I sent my fleet to attack a 50K scourge fleet...Only to be ambushed by four 98K fleets. The poor Void Shulkers were decimated in mere seconds. My vassel's husk squadrons tried to hold them off, but had failed in due time.

    I've only encountered these guys in one play through, but I haven't had many advanced games to be fair. While at first alarming, these guys actually put on a "shamfur dispray" once I realized they relied almost exclusively on strike craft and missiles (which are great to research). I wiped out tens of thousands of them and it took about a century to contain and exterminate them, but really it wasn't very much of a big deal other than it caused the resurgent ascendancy empires to calm down for a bit. The end result was that I ended up with massive fleets that could stomp anyone, except Ascendancy Empires, outright. I developed a ship production methodology with my colonies and placement of star bases that allowed me to produce ships as fast or faster than they could be destroyed by the Scourge.

    They popped up in an area where they literally had ten whole systems before they hit a choke point that led into my empire. It was the only way they could expand, and lucky for me they sent only a couple fleets at a time into the chokepoint instead of their full force. At the same time I could use a nearby gateway that the Prethoryn hadn’t taken to prod at them using my fleet of 120 or so corvettes. Eventually they exhausted most of their fleets trying to take that system, allowing me to stage an offensive using my 6 30-40k fleets that were specially designed to fight the swarm. Take that and add the reinforcements from a nearby fallen empire and lets just say that the Prethoryn didn’t last too long.

    I tonight just got this crisis. They spawned in 2411 and sent a few scouts in. However.. I rushed tech and dominated a majority of the galaxy through either vassalisation or integrations, or just straight domination. I had a massive armada of 20+ fleets all well over 150k and some in the 200k area. Some of my vassals had a quarter of that, but that still meant they had 300k + fleet power. Those bugs spawned and 50 fleets moved in on them, took their 'home system' and after a couple years, they tried again. They didn't last long, and a year or two after all the ships were dead I got a pop-up that said all pockets of the scourge were gone. I barely did anything because I was fighting a fallen empire at the time who started invading my areas.

    They need to add another end game crisis which spawns something similar to 'The Old Ones' From HP lovecraft. It would basically spawn a bunch of leviathans who have stupid amounts of HP that go around glassing systems.
    You could start the event, by making a cult pop up as a faction, and slowly grow in power.
    After a certain amount of time, the cult could begin attempting to summon the Old Ones. If you fail to locate the Cult in enough time, it begins an even to summon the old ones.
    At which point a few systems pop up with a cultist fleet, and a stupidly over powered leviathan.
    They could spice things up by making maybe an even quest chain, where you could banish the Old Ones if you find several relics across the galaxy. Or just tank the leviathans in a few fights.

    I have a world that is ai only and I watch what happens in those worlds. There were 4 main countries, The High Kingdom, The Combine, The Tzynn, and the Donmir. They all lived in a small galaxy together. At first tensions were hostile, they were suspicious of each other. But soon enough, they made a galactic community to vote on galactic laws. However peace was short lived, the Tzynn had enough of the High Kingdom and declared war. This is also when the two federations came into play. On one side "The Federated Sapient Nations" (Donmir and High Kingdom) and the other side the "Allied Civilized Worlds" (Tzynn and Combine). This is the first galactic war. With the combine rampaging through the high kingdom and the donmir pushing through the Tzynn it was a bloodbath. In the end the high kingdom pushed back and took what was theirs. A truce was made. The Tzynn looked broken, thier empire torn into two. But then The Second Galactic War commends. The high kingdom declares war on the Tzynn. More fighting, another truce, a third galactic war starts. This time, it ended with the downfall of the Tzynn. With the combine alone, there were ready to make thier last stand.
    Suddenly, the Scourge came. They started attacking systems one by one. They purged through the galaxy. Meanwhile, the donmir is breaking, 4 systems in rebellion, the combine also have this problem, this time only two systems were in rebellion. It was all down to the High Kingdom, they had the strongest fleets but yet they were coming. Now this begs the question...
    Will the High Kingdom save us all? Or will the Scourge purge us all? Its only a tale of time as countries being slaughtered one by one. The Galaxy is doomed.

I built my defenses while he built his fleets. The scourge grew, and every fleet he sent was squashed by the overwhelming might of the scourge. But my defenses held. He decided since it was late and the scourge covered a quarter of the galaxy and kept growing that the game was lost. I decided otherwise. My defenses still hold strong protecting me an one other empire who is behind me with no other hyperlanes to the rest of the galaxy. We have begun our counter push and will do so slowly so that we may build defenses behind us as we grow. I hope that we may survive.
