i have the a7ii and before christmas was considering upgrading to the a7iii but decided to spend the money on glass instead , best thing someone told me is to "date the body, marry the lens"
Hahaha love it. I’m going to keep that
😂😂😂
Actually you kinda did the opposite of your quote
@@thosedzones6430 short term yes but im saying i invested good money into a lens im going to keep for a while rather than update the body i dont really need
@@dunnzyy Sorry, what lens? and how much?
I just got my a7ii last Dec 2020. I freakin' love it! I haven't used anything else but I have no complaints.
Me too! Upgraded from nikon d5100 love this camera!
I really like the dynamism of the video. You are not standing at your desk and speaking like others. The direct demonstration is faboulus. Thank you
I appreciate that!
Wow this video completely changed my mind about thinking what I'd need as an ongoing hobby photographer. We need more people like you, thank you!
Y’all made me feel really good about buying this camera. It’s easy to feel like I’m behind times sometimes with all the content about new cameras and what seems like new camera coming out ever other day.
They will keep coming out :D That's how it goes. Every camera is kinda good since....well time eternal :D If it makes a picture, it's a good camera. The single most important thing is to actually know what model do you need to do what you want to do. Other things like 16k, IBIS, wi-fi and all the features are irrelevant until you use it to your benefit.
99% of the people are buying overrated gear when they don't even use 20-30% of it's capacity. Like youtube vloggers "need" 8k cameras...for shooting selfies indoors :D
Don't forget the good ol' LIKE and SUB! Would love to have you around :)

Dude you are so right! I had the a7ii, and it was a great camera. The battery life killed me, but whatever.
Agreed. I took interest in photography last year got the a7ii last February. It works quite well for beginner like me. Still learning it. Lots to learn. .
I'm glad you're still enjoying it after a year :)
I'm not a professional but I am a seasoned photographer, been shooting for 40 years. I just picked up the a7ii to have a smaller backup camera to my K1. I am loving the a7ii!
ive been thinking about this camera and making the change, thanks dude great vid
Been shooting on this camera since 2018 and this video is spot on. Thank you!
Thanks Man. I just bought one, I was motivated by your other A7II video... and I love it!
Great to hear! You will love it. ✌🏻
Well to be honest.. I wasn't expecting such a good review with shortcut straight forward answers man! Liked and subscribed to your massively underrated channel..
Loved my A7II, my first Sony camera. Loved it so much I upgraded to an A7RIII. Still have fond memories of shots I got on the A7ii though.
can you tell how a7riii perform better than the a7ii?
Love the shutter sound of this camera. Also, I think one of the reasons it has such a great low light capability is because of the lower resolution compared to EOS R for instance. Lower resolution sensors have less noise in low light situations
Oh man it's something I wanted to mention in the video haha, the shutter sound is siiiiiiiiiiiiick! Yeah the resolution is definitely something but Sony's sensors are just pure witchcraft haha. I think the new EOS R5 competes a lot more in the shadow recovery
Low light performance is why even with my A7RII, I'm keeping my old Canon 6D. I have used it in near darkness at max ISO and pulled the shots out easily. I was planning on selling my two a6000s and APS-C lenses. Now it looks like the A7II is the place to spend what I make from selling those.
@@WolfQuantumI just recently sold my trusty A7RII and picked up the A7IV. While their is no comparison in performance between the A7RII and A7IV (I needed video & low light performance as well and OMG does the A7IV have a sexy shutter sound!!) I swear the A7RII felt like it had a heck of a more solid build quality
saw your other a7ii video just a few days ago and this update is so reassuring and well made thank you so much. your channel is so dope good luck in 2021 🤝
Thanks ✌🏻😁
This is a great resource, thank you.
I love my A7ii. I was also surprised how much info I could get from the shadows. Great dynamic range. Sharp af.
That said, if you’re getting one, buy at least 2 Extra Batteries. Yes, 2 extra. At least. The only real drawback of the A7ii is the tiny battery and its short life. So invest in a battery grip(after market - the Sony grip is way overpriced), if you can, to hold an extra battery.
You convinced me. I guess I just needed to hear this. Cheers!
Thank you very much for this video! Very impressive camera.
Grazie Robin, video fantastico. Mi hai fatto apprezzare ancora di più la mia scelta!
This was the best review I've coke across all week. Thank you!!!
hey Keegan, little personal note,
a year ago the first video of yours that I saw was that of the Sony 7ii, liked you instantly, and I've never missed an upload since,
now you are like a very far friend, that appears every now and then, seeing that Sony a year later it's a little bit touching in a way, nothing, thank you, really appreciate the content and the "companionship" (I don't know if it's the right word)
What a wonderful comment my friend :) Thanks for sticking around and you'll be happy to hear I've got some great plans on UA-cam for 2021
i bought a a7ii in 2019. been wanting to upgrade recently. but thanks to your video. it convince me to stay abit longer. its not the gears problem. its just my own preference problem. thank you so much for your video!
For sure, you'd be surprised at how much you can shoot when you're limited by gear and you have to rely on creativity!
Thank you for this video. It's helps me a lot in this moment!
Bought mine in 2017. No problem since then. Yes, AF is a bit slow, ISO performance could be better but... given it is paid for and still works fine, no point changing :)
Great video man! Thank you
I just bought a Sony a7 II after ive seen your video. I love it! Its absolutely great! Got it with the Kit Lens, 3 Batteries and an IR Control for it. The pictures are so good, but I really need to learn how to use it. Its completely new for me, because im used to analog cameras and the step up to the a7 is a really huge step for me...
Greetings from Germany!
Glad I could help! Thanks for sharing 😁
Great video 👍, definitely needed this as I’ve been looking at getting more into photography and this video definitely helped me make my choice. Keep up the good work. SUBSCRIBED✌️
Thank you for the great quality and informative content.
Great video, thanks for helping me make a decision
Thank you man for this
I bought this last year and definitely agreed with every thing you said.
Plenty of plus points with the A7II even to-date. Got mine January this year. My cam before this was 5DII with couple of L lenses. With proper Metabones adapter all those EF lenses work great with the A7II as well. In fact any old glass I tested gives extra character with the sensor. So yea. Secret is out. :)
What adapter are you using?
thanks dude, great video
I think I made my decision! I've been shopping for a camera for over a month and this this video just sealed the deal! Thank you!
Awesome! Enjoy :D
Hey man! Watched you video, going to buy the A7 ii tomorrow! It will be fun to step into the full frame world! Thanks for an awesome video!
amazing! You'll love it 😄
Coming from a Nikon 5600 and 8 lens. This was a MAJOR upgrade moving to a new system like SONY. I don't regret it at all. I love my A7II
Woah, big change with all those lenses. Glad to hear it was worth it!
Wonderful video man! Thanks so much!
My pleasure :)
Great video many thanks, I love mine.
I started photography during lockdown and picked up an A7Rii after the first 6 months. I absolutely it and the E Mount is great for adapting vintage lenses.
nice! it's true, just a cheap adapter opens up a whole new world of lenses
This was really good to see for me, I’m a new photographer and everyone is raving over the A7IV. Jumping from an iPhone to a ‘real’ camera period would be beneficial for me.
video was helpful bro
thx
THANKS FOR MAKING THIS VID BROTH
NP
your energy kinda vibes with mine ♥ you got yourself a new subscriber buddy keep up the good work
This video was so helpful THANK YOU FOR THAT!
You got it!
Just bought an Aii Cheers
Another reason I went for the Aii was I was just desperate to get into the Sony Full Frame Scene, but with the Aiv looming the Aiii just seemed a bad gamble! The Aii got me in and I can start dumping money on lenses so when the Aiv drops I can make a more informed choice, but all the while I am using, shooting, and learning the Aii rather than procrastinating!
Good call!
You deserve the like man. Thanks for helping
Just found you and thought this was a great vid! Keep it up
thanks for sharing this video with us
Top man, watched your 2020 A7ii video last week which made me realise even more that I don't need to upgrade my A7ii body just yet. I bought mine in 2016, and i've not really been able to use it as much as I would like. With the help of your videos, and other creators I am looking forward to the restrictions being raised over here in the U.K., so I am able to star doing shoots and keeping creative. Thanks for this video, and i'll check out your IG as well 🐻
You can still use your camera during the restrictions! I'm taking many fun self-portraits here in lockdown :D Thanks and have fun ✌🏻
I hit that like, your videos are calming and simple. Nothing too crazy that us beginners are sitting their thinking hmm wtf did he just say? Thank you for the video. I also subscribed.
Thank you! super-useful video
I have been weighing purchasing the A7ii against the A7iii, and now the Canon EOS RP. My big interest is in taking portraits, landscape, and low light photography. Your videos on the A7ii present a lot of quality information in an interesting and aesthetically pleasing way. I also love the way you present yourself on camera and how you speak. The videos I have seen of yours are so relaxing, which keeps me watching all the way through.
I’m glad you said that!
Both the a7ii and the RP will be good for that type of photography. The continuous eye af on the RP is awesome for portraits.
I'm actually looking for a camera for about the same type of photography, so I'm interested in what you decided to go for and why if you'd be willing to share your decision (if you have made one) :)
@@TheAllroth same here
@@TheAllroth It has been a while since you commented so I am not sure if this is still relevant to you. I ended up going with the A7iii. In the end I decided I wanted to avoid any sort of buyer's remorse so I went with the A7iii because I was fortunate enough to have the additional funds and that's the one I really wanted. It may not have been the most rational choice because I may not need the A7iii for the level of photography that I do, but I can say I am 100% happy with it. Its lowlight performance is amazing.
Nice tip about shadow recovery! With the recent Sony sales promotion, I was able to get a used A7ii for less than 700 bucks at a major camera store. It was rated at 9+, had a shutter count of 826, and came with all of the original accessories including the box. I have some great Minolta MD glass I want to use with this camera.
great deal!
Incredible deal. Just paid $780 for a 9+ with 8,000 clicks and thought that was a steal. Congrats.
I just found one on ebay with a 28-70mm lens, with 280 shutter clicks. For 999.99…really debating on it. Wish this had a flip up screen :(
Hey! I have some Minolta MD lenses and I was thinking on buying the Sony A7II too! Did you tested those out? Does it give a good result? I've never tried to use vintage lenses on a mirrorless camera
@@parallore I've used a couple of Minolta lenses on Panasonic Micro Four Thirds cameras, and it works well. Each camera system has a different way to magnify the viewing screen in manual focus mode. Personally, I leave the mode dial on aperture priority, use the aperture ring on the lens, and use manual focus along with peaking. I think the old lenses give a unique look and feel to my photos.
Thank you so much this clarification help me buy a7ii than any other!!
Looking forward to get more content on this topic(on a7ii)♥️
Glad it was helpful! I'll try to come up with more topics :)
@@KeeganRobin appreciate it!!
Can you clarify my doubts is it still worth buying this for both photography and videography coz i think its best of all full frame at this price point!!?
Great video! Dropping a comment to support the algorithm. Keep doing what you're doing man!
Hey!
Just realized your shooting in my area. Definitely subbing. Great video!
Wooou, el video que necesitaba, muchas gracias me aclaraste muchas dudas, un saludo desde México!
great video. watched this in 2022. thanks Keegan.
Had the 2 since last year. I just got the 3. Was not a fan of the single card slot.. but the a7ii will be my stills(portraits) and the 3 for something else.
i love the way you represent your content
I own a a7 ll, recently bought a Tamron 70-300mm for it, i also have a Tamron 28-75mm a Sony 55-210 asp-c and the 24-70mm Sony kit lens, i love the camera
Just picked one up for $500 AUD. Missing it’s battery flap but still, everything works and am happy to spend such a minuscule amount for pretty damn decent quality. Plus a new battery flap costs ~40 AUD. Pretty happy!
Thank you for this video brother! any tips on how to monetize photography? how much to charge, how to handle photoshoots, etc?
Definitely waiting for the comparison
I have an a7ii and it reallly is a great camera. I can relate everything what he is saying. :)
All I needed to hear! Thanks man! I just got one of these for free the other day.
damn that's an awesome find!
I love this small baby, I upgrade from a6000 and after a year I know I'm gonna have this camera as long as it will be working :D
just subscribed to this channel ! keep up the good work man . peace!
I'm Russian, and way how clearly you talking is awesome. Listening what do you saying is very easy and nice.
Very good review for this camera, I think I will buy it, thank you!
Love my A7ii. I have a collection of vintage lenses (about 50 of them) that I use mainly with this camera.
Honestly the iQ and speed of the a7ii is a perfect match for vintage lenses!!
@@KeeganRobin I agree. Here's an image of my vintage lens collection, and it's growing:

Very informative. 😀
Thanks Keegan!
Great review or I should say explanation man, I had this camera last year, sold it for a fujifilm camera for my youtube channel as a7ii has very less people interested or user already. But it's a great camera for photography. Great content by the way, congrats !!!
thanks! Yeah it's definitely a photography-centred camera so that's understandable
Thank you so so much for this vid!!!! I couldn't find an equally good movie on Polish UA-cam. I'm looking for a camera for photos and videos of airplanes, motorbikes and families, everyone recommends me a nikon d750 or d610. I started to read about sony but I missed such tests as yours, because everyone says it's not worth buying II but III... you saved my time and my money, thanks❤️ Btw I loooooooove how creative IG you have😱👏 I subscribe it with a pleasure ✌️
I've had the A7ii since it became available. And yes I paid over $2000.00 for it. It is still my go to daily use camera. If you can pick one up for under a grand and you are looking for a great mirrorless camera, and I mean great camera at a reasonable price this is it. However, you may have to spend a few buck for extra batteries. My A7ii has been abused over the years and it shows but it still works to perfection. Great video
Yep thankfully you can get cheap 3rd party batts. I carried 5 around with me at all times 😅
Thank you for the video. Just ordered myself an A7Rii. It was on sale for the same price as the A7ii. Hope I don’t lose too much low light performance with the higher MP count.
Nice! Yeah you can't go wrong with either
I own the A7ii, A very special video, Thank you for all the work you put into this great video.
Thanks for watching!
Just bought an A7ii today !!!. Going to take some great holiday pics
Have fun!
Awesome content! Subscribed!👌
Welcome aboard!
What a coincidence! I bought an a7ii in 2021.. Damn. Now let's see why I did it.
so is it good? its been 2 weeks.
@@macho8031 I love it. I'm assuming auto-focus is better on newer models. But that wouldn't justify the price difference. I don't see any reason to upgrade anytime soon.. I'll retire this one. And then buy the outdated a7iii for an apple and an egg. While in the meantime I've put my money in glass.
@@jokkemartens8065 Good move putting money on better glass.... that makes a huge difference.... i have been using a canon sl2 and wanted to upgrade.... do you think this would be a good option? and btw how is the battery life on a7ii?
@@macho8031 Well I don't have that much experience.. But it would be a step up to go from an aps-c to full frame. Whatever brand you're going for. If the difference is big enough. I don't know. I certainly see the difference. But taking better pictures is definitely a bigger one.
As for the battery life. It's not huge, but it's better than expected. I do have a battery pack! So I have the lifespan of 2 batteries. And an extra 2 in my bag. But never have had to use them in a single day.
@@jokkemartens8065 thanks mate... i might be going for a7ii after seeing all those reviews... anyways have a great day!!!
You're a Legend, brother, much appreciated, and wishing you and your loved ones a magical year! :)
Just got it for a decent 1100 USD with a FE 28-70 lens. Can’t wait to use it!
One of my most sincere like button click.. Good vid!
Thank you for this I have the same camera and looking for pointers an tips
On my iPhone 7 when the subject is under exposed while using a moment pro app, it is possible to lift the shadows but it suffers camera noise and color noise which is limited on a good lighting condition personally I prefer on the Sony a7ii for photography.
Lots of snow there. No snow here outside of DC.
Really great content!! New sub. I’m going to make the purchase now - thank you!
Welcome aboard! ✌🏻
Its mid 2021, and I probably will buy the A7 II. I compared several mirrorless cameras but still came back to the A7 II. Sure, the newer mid-range cameras have better specs, 4K video for example, but the total package of what the A7 II offers is more interesting I think. Specially now it is way cheaper.
It supports 4k video??
I'm about to upgrade it come this year black Friday.
I was considering in between ii and iii like everyone but spending on lenses is a better idea. Thank you Keegan for this video. I couldn't find, do you have videos about the lenses for Sony cameras or specially for a7 ii? Because if I upgrade in the future, I want to use the lenses that I have invested :)
It is a big decision to buy a camera. Thanks for this. looking to get an A7ii if i can commit to the purchase! Only dslr i have had in my Nikon D5000 haha
Haha! Would definitely be a nice upgrade 😄
its 2022 (almost 23) and I was really on the fence buying this camera. It is currenly on sale and I am almost completely new to photography, but wanted a camera that I would like for a long time. Since its on sale the M III cost 3x as much and that's without a kit lens. Gonna wait a few days, as more stores might put in on sale (Black friday).
I bought a sony a7ii 6 months ago and I'm damn happy with the purchase!
That's it!!! :D
Picking up a Sony A7II for $800 pretty soon and this video definetly confirmed my choices, thanks man.
Nice! Enjoy !
Hello thank you so much for the video! What camera and lens were you using when you made it? Very impressive quality! Also, is the Sony a7ii good for streaming? If so, any lens you recommend? Thanks again!
