Why do players/captains consistently spit on the ground, in front of the referee, when they have been called up for a breach of the rules of the game. I refereed for 25 years.....I felt spitting in front of me, bending over etc. was an indication that they didn’t respect my adjudication of the incident. I found it very hard to allow this disrespectful player to stay on the field up to full time.
