- Hello! In this video, I unbox and review the limited edition Blackfyre Sword from the House of the Dragon tv series and the Fire and Blood book by G.R.R. Martin.
I pre-ordered this sword from www.jalicblades.com in 2022 and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival.
This is based off the legendary Valyrian steel sword wielded by Aegon the Conqueror and passed down to Targaryen kings. In the current tv series, Viserys I wields the weapon and by the end of season 1, Aegon II has the sword. As mentioned, this is based off the book version.
As a huge Games of Thrones fan of the show and the books, I really enjoy collecting these iconic weapons and this one certainly did not disappoint!

No I wasn't able to get dark sister unfortunately. But the engraving on egg on the conqueror sword is amazing the detail love it

Can the plaque only hold the sword vertically? Or can it also hold it horizontally? Would love to display it on my wall horizontally in my opinion
I would say no, it’s not made for that. You could potentially balance it on the plaque that way but it’s intended vertical. I also love horizontal displays for swords

where how can I acquire this sword's sheath?
I don't think there is a specific sheath sold for this one on the website. The only one I see is for Longclaw.

I think the shows haven’t always fit the book description. The store does make Damascus steel version of these which will have more of that described look to the books. I may get one of those version the next time I order a sword from them.
I just hoped they went all out like they did the book version of Longclaw, stainless steel, etched pattern.
As for Damascus, well having to oil a sword every so often and after every use as to prevent rust etc. Vs Stainless steel with little to no care needed. My goal is to collect book and TV versions of Blackfyre, Dark sister and Ice for display. Which means for Damascus, a lot of oil and maintenance, due to where I'm located wet to dry dust and wind. @@theurgeartifacts
So far I have only gotten the stainless. I’d like to still add Dark Sister, Ice and the Viper’s spear. One day I would LOVE if they made Dawn
@theurgeartifacts I was curious enough to ask Jalicblades/Valyrian Steel why that stopped the original etched pattern.
They said "it look too tacky to us and was too expensive," and that I should try their Damascus one.
Oh at least a very quick response. That makes sense in the business world. I think I’ll stick with stainless but will treat each order dependent on the item. Thank you for following up!

You could sharpen it and then I’d imagine it would. But it doesn’t come sharp

No you should absolutely not try to even swing it, let alone cut with it. This is stainless steel, so too brittle to be used, making is a wall hanger (nothing wrong with that if that's what you like) There are countless examples of people trying to swing these and the blade just comes apart or breaks. Then you are lucky if you don't injure yourself or others. Another issue is that these swords are often not properly assembled, with the pommel being screwed on the tang (in the best case), or the tang being welded (worst case). This creates a structural weak point and results in the sword not being able to withstand hits.
Again, not saying this is a bad sword, just that it is not fit for cutting and should just be used for display.
If you are interested in cutting, there are many proper swords that are built for this purpose, but they will never be made of stainless steel. You would be looking at carbon steel or spring steel in most cases.
So bottom line: two aspects are key for cutting: steel and construction. And this sword has neither one nor the other and cutting with it would be dangerous.
Agreed, these are totally display pieces.
