In the beginning, whythe hell isn't anyone making noise? I would have been cheering like crazy unless it's a Native American thing to show your joy by staying quiet, they'd probably be looking at me like I'm being inappropriate, lol. Can anyone shed some light? Cheers!
+dancingqueen1978 its not customary for indigenous folks to give applause--thats a european thing--or cheer on command. they are of course happy to be there, but they express it in ways normal for their own cultures. modern day emcees are kind of annoying in that respect when they constantly try to make people react/respond the way they want them to.
Thank you for shedding light,I obviously don't know much about Native American culture but I'm very interested as I believe to have been Native American myself in a previous life. I really want to attend a pow wow one day,are they always indoors? (it looks like an indoor stadium to me) Also the emcees you mentioned are these also Native American emcees? One last question If someone like me although I know now not to,tried to cheer and clap would people consider disrespectful even though I obviously am an outsider? Thanks.
SO TRUE ...I have to say... sometimes the announcers can be pretty annoying occasionally to me , but they try to keep up the humor etc....most of thetime they make me laugh.......
hellz no! not "excel in wasicu ways"....all that destruction you are talking about is wasicu ways, why do you want to excel in destruction and exploitation of the earth? so much for holistic thinking.
May the Great Spirit Guide us all in safety and cheer over the Christmas 2020 Long live Native American Art
