That bolt has to be torqued to atleast 72ft lbs then another 90 degrees or else that bolt will back up and your engine will be done.

If you do not lock the cams at tdc the crank sprocket ( that is not keyed to the crank) will likely turn as it is held in place by being squashed between the balancer and the front of the crank. A cam lobe with the valve compressed can make the cam turn and spin the sprocket on the crank a few degrees and now your timing will be way off, bent valves etc when you start it....... get the right tools and a new bolt as it is a stretch bolt you can only use once. torque it properly too.

Keep searching. There are better videos than this. Tech did not verify he was at TDC before and after pulley bolt was torqued. Also a new bolt and friction washer should be used.

And it wasn't torqued down. I'm in the process of doing this and looking for more info and tips but I know enough to know this isn't right!

Jerry, are you implying that only people who video their work and post it know what they are talking about? Guess I need to confront my Mazda tech friend about this. Scammer's been working on my car with no videos, dammit!

Baxrok2 has some excellent videos for setting timing. Search his name. And then watch them a few times as once you get the concept it’s relatively easy process.

Using that impact wrench on the pulley bolt is the main problem when you want to unscrew it again. You can't precise set and control the torque on that impact gun.
If the manufacturer says that this bolt requires two stage screwing, first to 100 Nm then turn another 90 degrees, the unscrewing shouldn't require excessive force, unless someone "wise" used an impact gun on the bolt and tighten it to much.
When you need to unscrew the bolt it would be much better to lock the pulley with a special holding tool and use a hammer and a manual impact wrench on the bolt.

so i took my pully off without setting to TDC or putting that tool in to lock the crank? what are my options now am i able to just rotate the engine to TDC and put this on?

Great video. I was thinking that you have to hold the camshafts with the special tool, But seems that is not necessary.

You might get lucky this way but I would hold the balancer with a spanner wrench. Notice the crank moving when he takes out the bolt? He also did not torque the bolt correctly. The torque needed would shear off the temporary little bolt in the balancer. Where is the friction washer? I would not trust this repair for long.

to set timing yes. but to torque the bolt you do not want to lock the cams as the tool will definitely break the camshaft ends

Only if you remove the timing chain or loosen the sprockets. For this job, the pulley simply has to be aligned with the crankshaft sensor at TDC.

Timing peg was not all the way in. Never reset crank to TDC. This is a hatchet job more than likely ran like shit after this job was done. If you're gonna do an "instructional" video, show everybody the proper way. This will end up blowing someone's motor.
