thanks a bunch.did the same only used a qtip and rubbing alcohol. and it worked first try. saved me the 80 dollars a new disc drive would have cost me.if I ever see you at a bar I owe you a beer.
Sadly if it didn’t work you couldn’t use a new disc drive so he saved you way more than 80$ he saved you from getting a new console btw if you are wondering why you can’t use a new one the disc drive in married to the mother board you owe him a nice bottle of whiskey
You’ve just saved me the cost of a new Xbox one s. After four years, my optical drive quit reading discs. I followed your procedure and it is working again. Thank you so much for this.
Dude the ONLY thing that has worked for me! THANK YOU!! You saved my kids Christmas morning because they will now be able to play their new games that weren't working before :)
screws are soo fucking hard to pull them off.. but anyway i did it and in the process i beat the fuck out of the console and i put it everything back when i finish and it started and all that shit but still with the same problem
I had some issues where I put the CD in and it would make the sound like it was still trying to inject the CD so I took apart the CD drive and did a comparison for the components to yours and found out that I had a gear slip on the mechanism that sucks in the. your video was absolutely one hundred percent helpful in figure out what was wrong with my Xbox I really appreciate the video bro
Your video really helped me fix my drive issue on my Xbox One, thank you! I was about to pull the trigger and buy and new drive for $50 when I stumbled across your video. My drive would only read a after putting it in and taking it out 5-7 times, it was rather frustrating. Following your video I was able to get into the Xbox One case and into the drive and clean the roller. I used windex and several q-tips to clean the roller. I used an old disc put into the drive slot to help roll the roller when cleaning. Once that was done and put back together the drive is now seating the disk 100% of the time! Thank you again, you helped save me some green
Thank you for sharing this. I was able to take the Xbox apart and found that one of my sons had shoved a dime into the disc reader. Finally works after many months. You saved me the headache of repair and money.
Every other video is just kids or young adults talking about putting the disc in but holding onto it before it goes all the way in and then just letting it go so it has more of a “pulling force” to get all the way in. Those ways never worked, but when I did this and saw how dirty my drive was, I knew exactly that this way is gonna work. It worked perfectly and now I can put any disc in and it works perfectly! Thanks a lot man, much appreciated, saves me the money to have it looked at

Thank you so much for the videos. My 2 year old daughter stuck a quarter in the cd slot. I figured it out after shaking the Xbox and hearing a rattling sound. I followed the steps and took the coin out. I am so happy my xbox one is working again. Thanks a million!
can't believe that's all it took. my xbox hasn't been working for about a month. decided to try the fix out to keep from spending money on it and it seems to be working fine. thanks!
Thank you for this video! My Xbox is back in business! It just stopped reading disks, and you’re right, the roller had minor dust on it, which I cleaned with a q-tip and alcohol.. works like a charm now!
I find just lifting the xbox slightly after inserting the disc works just fine. I don't many physical copies but this worked for games, dvd and blu ray
Thank you very very much.i have the first gen xbox one and it would not read any disc at all.tried the tilt method and the power mode method nothing worked until I watched this video and cleaned the roller on the inside of the disc tray.there was a TON of dirt/dust in there preventing it from working.this video completely fixed the problem
I just did this and I am happy to say that it worked. I tried all of the other tricks that people were using and it didn't work for my Xbox. So I followed this video and cleaned the dust off of the roller now it takes in discs and reads them! Thank you so much for your guidance through this nerve-wracking procedure. You, my friend, are the man!
For anyone visiting in 2022 and you really just don't want to take apart your Xbox, I have found a fix for you. 5:08 he says the disc wasn't going in all the way which means you can either push your disc in a bit faster than normal, or hold it in the tray while it's trying to take it in for about 2 seconds, then let go. Both worked for me first try, and it's definitely a lot easier than this lol
My xbox isn't reading any discs and I'm faced with only three options; pay someone to repair it, buy a new xbox or the last but certainly most enticing option of repairing it myself. Two days ago I opened up my xbox one before having to stop in my tracks at the AT screws. In every air intake hole it was packed with a rusty looking dust, obviously I've not been taking care of it and I'm hoping that once I get inside the disc drive it's dirty and not broken, just checked this video out before opening the metal casing and now I know what to do cheers man
I started but sadly didn’t have the tools for the screws, so I just grabbed a thick sheet of paper ( from a pack of batteries) put some rubbing alcohol and shoved it in the disc drive and shoved it in deep in and out lol. It work!!! Years of the issue solved thanks to you, I used to have to tilt my Xbox smack it a couple times but all it needed was a little clean
Thanks buddy, you just saved me going out and buying a new console. My son stuck a peace of paper in the drive. Lucky I came across your video. Thanks a million!
The bar didnt actually look all that dirty on mine but the bit of dust I did take off got it working. I did also just have a play around with the mechanical bits (literally just moving them manually because it looked cool) so that may have also had something to do with it. Saved me a few hundred pounds for a new series X!
Omg! This worked. Sucks because I have several 4K disks I haven't been able to watch. Finally, googled the error to find out why and came across your video. Thank you!
Another happy customer. Thanks so much for your video. My Forza 7 game was stuck in my disk drive and would not come out. And yes it's out of warranty. So I followed your video, and the roller bar you said was dirty on yours was the same on mine also. So by using a cue tip with rubbing alcohol on it and inserting a old CD in and out causing the roller to turn and going all along the roller I removed all the dust that was causing the problem, and now it works just fine again. Again thanks for your post. Because trying to get help from Microsoft was a pain in the ASS.
When you think that it is an open slot design , so dust will get in there all the time and putting the disk in and out , after a time it is no surprise that it wont load or read right. The old 360 had a sliding tray , I never had this problem unless the disk was scratched.
Got the new FIFA and disc drive had been playin up but only ever had one game on disc and bang Fifa got stuck and wouldn't eject even with the manual eject sent two hours tryin to get the disc then seen this and followed it to the letter and got my disc out and now the disc drive works like brand new with no noises and reads discs every time we're it never did before ..top vid !!
Fixed the problem! I had just bought one used and CD wasn’t loading. Followed the video and low and behold the previous owners kid had shoved their vax card into the CD slot. Once that was removed and the rollers cleaned, it worked perfectly.
Great tutorial! With your 2 videos on opening the case and the disc drive and using a little patience, i have a fully functioning XBox One again. Big thanks!!!
I saw this video last year but was afraid to take my Xbox apart and break the tabs (I hate tabs) but it was surprisingly pretty easy. my work around during the past year was just to hold the disc for an extra few seconds until the Xbox pulled the disc out of my hand. Having the Xbox tilted back at a 20 degree angle or greater also worked. today I decided to clean the rollers and the slot loading issue was fixed. no more work around. thank you very much for your post.
Soooooo. I opened up my drive on my Forza edition and the roller was like new. It's a few years old but I rarely use the drive except for my older games. I put everything back together and to my luck I was able to launch a disc. Perhaps it just needed a bit of a reset for my situation but positive results either way. Thank you for posting this video.
My disc is stuck in the disc drive, is wont come out. When I press the eject button it just makes a grinding noise. If I do this, will I be able to take the disc out and there will be no damage to the game?
Yo, this worked like a charm, really appreciate it! The optical drive stopped reading intermittently then completely stopped reading games. Would still read some blu rays and dvds so I knew it wasn't complete failure. Lots of comments on what the tools were... Torx 9 and 10, Philips 0. Microsoft wanted me to spend time and money to send in and get repaired (out of warranty) so I decided to risk it because I'd be spending money either way. Works perfect.
I just took mine apart and the disk drive roller was clean but my cd is not going all the way back anymore so i just ordered another disk drive from Amazon. Thanks for this video.
Awesome! My kid has the Xbox one S but it was also having the same problem. I got to the cd drive and cleaned the rollers just like you showed and now it runs like a top. Man I love UA-cam! Thanks for the guidance! 👏👏👏
The ribbon wire came off the part of my Xbox where the you sync the controllers and stuff I tried putting it back in but now it doesn't work any suggestions on how to fix it ?
Thank you so much for the videos! One of my games got stuck in the disc drive and not even the "manual eject" method would work, but thanks to you, I was able to pull it apart and put it back together with a little more confidence!
My game also got stuck in the disc drive and manual eject does not work for me either. I'm a little hesitant on taking my xbox apart but I would like to try this method out. Once you opened up the disc drive, is it easy to take the game out?
Thank you man I know it's like a couple years old of a video but you just helped me so much and I tried to do it my self and I accidentally unplugged my storage unit and reset my Xbox lol
super easy guides to follow watched both case taking off and cleaning of the disc drive and solved my problem discs started to glide into system like it was fresh out of the box thank you very much :)
I fixed my drive by cutting out four pieces from a file folder into a CD size template. I stacked the pieces and sprayed denatured alcohol on the bottom one. I then let the drive try to load this like a CD a few times and it scrubbed the roller clean. discs load the first try now, and I didn't have to void my warranty to fix it.
@@Kumari_44 mines been like this for years cause I havny had the money or time to do it but seeing how simple this is I'm definitely gonna have to give it a shot
If You dont want to open your xbox there is another solution which is to slant your xbox up at a 45 degree angle and put the disc in then it should load the disc
Hey man I wanna thank you for showing me how to get to the disk drive I too was having problems that the disk wouldn't grab so I had decided to go in deeper and to my surprise one of my son's had try to hide a chuck E cheese coin in the drive it self lol but yeah thanks for the tutorial
It s a bit like the old mouse pointer with the rubber ball and rollers. You had to clean them up to fix the mouse when it didnt track properly and also clean your mat
Followed all the instructions. I have my disc drive sitting in front of me. Trying to clean it. It doesn't seem to dirty, but I'm finding it very difficult to move the rollers? Should they rotate easily? I am not much of a tech guy.
This video helped me fix my cd drive there was no dust in the cd drive but the laser lens was dirty so i cleaned it with a dry cotton bud and it fixed the problem
Dude much thanks , I thought I'd broke the ribbon to the power supply and eject button, but also the discs are getting thinner ( cheaper ) so that might make a difference cause iv only had issues with the thinner discs . Soundo il try it now fingers, eyes, and ass home crossed :)
Thanks! I'm gonna try it tomorrow. Have had problems since I got it. It worked fine when I bought it, then about 3 months later it started not reading DVD discs, then stopped reading them altogether. Then started not reading Blu-ray Discs and then altogether as well. Now certain discs tend to work still though, oddly. Got it repaired, it was fine. Then 3 months later the cycle continued. My room with my system gets really dusty really fast though. So I'm hoping this is the case and not the laser itself. Because there's no good way to clean correctly.
Thanks for the video. was very easy to remove case and drive for cleaning. improved the loading of the discs but still wouldnt read. had to use an Uber (yes Uber) Blue Ray / DVD cleaner. so far so good. Thanks again!
Hello, so I pulled my disc drive out to see what was going on with it. The gears on the top have now fallen out and there seems to be a black v shaped spring that fell out too. Any chance you know how to reassemble this thing or could post a quick video showing how the gears flow together...can't find a damn thing about it anywhere. Barely even a photo of the gears
I'm having the same issue however I'm not so sure it's a dirty roller as DVD's will play but Blu Rays and games won't. I've think I've got an issue with the Blu Ray laser.
FYI, it doesn't matter who originally bought the xbox one, or any product for that matter. As long as it's still under warranty then the company will replace it as there is no proof of who purchased it at the store. It's not like you sign a piece of paper with your name on it that gets sent to the company. I just bought a broken xbox one off someone and contacted MS and they are going to send me a replacement. Someone paid money for it and it was badly made so they have to fix it.
+Carlos Garcia It depends on the manufacturer. Some warranties are not transferrable, and most manufacturers require a proof of purchase to prove that the product is still within the warranty period. Because products are prone to sitting on a shelf long after the date of manufacture, the proof of purchase gives an exact date range of how long the consumer has owned the product. If you own a second hand unit and original owner registered that unit with the manufacturer, then you are, in most cases, SOL, even if you possess the original proof of purchase.
I don’t even know if I have the strength to unpack this machine 😭 Pretty stressful just by looking at this video. But it does look like it’ll solve my problem. Will make time to dissemble the console in the coming days.
The problem I have is with my Blu-ray discs. Its not that they are not read, its that they are read but the picture is lagging or cuts out. Will this fix it?
When you put your disc in, did the disc drive start up for 1 second and then just stop, and does it do that 6 times in a row before stopping altogether?
My Xbox start reading CDs again ... XD Thank you for the detailed video. my problem was little bit different but was with the disc driver. My little brother forcibly insert a disc while the xbox was off that caused the gear on the side to be misaligned. all what i had to do was align them again
Disk drive still doesn't work. I want to send it off to repair but I can't put the wireless card in and the screw underneath. The connecting port won't line up and if I fix it then I can't get the screws in. Any Ideas?
I've done this a couple of times and it worked at first but after a short time the problem returned. Any advice? I don't have pets and the xbox is on a shelf off the floor.

Hey man I wanna thank you for showing me how to get to the disk drive I too was having problems that the disk wouldn't grab so I had decided to go in deeper and to my surprise one of my son's had try to hide a chuck E cheese coin in the drive it self lol but yeah thanks for the tutorial
Dude man thanks a lot you saved me over 100 bucks, the problem with mine was that there was a quarter stuck in the roller
Worked astonishingly well! I knew literally nothing about this and now I’m lowkey a pro
Thanks man Xbox works pefect now 2 Thumbs Up!!! GREAT VIDEO
Hi happy new year and all the best in 2016.
Thank you so much, I tried it out and its working for me. thanks ones again.
What were the two screws you were using in the video
Just did this for my old xbox one now it works perfectly!!! Thx for the video.
I've saved this..this video is awesome, you may have saved me having to source another console , cheers fella 👌
Did he?
Was yours making loud noises before cleaning it as well?
Hello, so I pulled my disc drive out to see what was going on with it. The gears on the top have now fallen out and there seems to be a black v shaped spring that fell out too. Any chance you know how to reassemble this thing or could post a quick video showing how the gears flow together...can't find a damn thing about it anywhere. Barely even a photo of the gears
I'm having the same issue however I'm not so sure it's a dirty roller as DVD's will play but Blu Rays and games won't. I've think I've got an issue with the Blu Ray laser.
Does this help if the disc only makes it only most of the way in there and doesn’t finish actually getting in there?
Hey that little black roller is down and not up like yours..... is that a problem or how do i get mine to stay up like yours?
Thanks a lot, this reminds me of repairing old laser jet printers, paper feed rollers needed cleaning over time.
Is there a kit I can buy that has the necessary screwdrivers/tools for getting into the Xbox One along with its Tamper-Proof screws?
Ebay
The problem I have is with my Blu-ray discs. Its not that they are not read, its that they are read but the picture is lagging or cuts out. Will this fix it?
can you just clean it out with a can of electrical contact cleaner and duster? without having to dissemble?
Okay. So the ribbon connecting the two sides came a part on me...suggestions on how i can put it back on?
When you put your disc in, did the disc drive start up for 1 second and then just stop, and does it do that 6 times in a row before stopping altogether?
My Xbox start reading CDs again ... XD
Thank you for the detailed video. my problem was little bit different but was with the disc driver. My little brother forcibly insert a disc while the xbox was off that caused the gear on the side to be misaligned. all what i had to do was align them again
I should also mention, you DONT HAVE TO REMOVE THE SMALL SCREWS! only the large ones. It'll save you some time.
Thanks, what type of diskdrive i need? You got a part number or something for me please? I want to replace it
Disk drive still doesn't work. I want to send it off to repair but I can't put the wireless card in and the screw underneath. The connecting port won't line up and if I fix it then I can't get the screws in. Any Ideas?
thank you ! this work totally for me.. awesome i was really worry because my X1 star to no read cds but i follow your video and now works perfect!
What tool do you use cant get anything to work for the screws
Thanks guy. I'm hoping this will he my fix. I've been looking at replacing the whole disc drive.
I've done this a couple of times and it worked at first but after a short time the problem returned. Any advice? I don't have pets and the xbox is on a shelf off the floor.
