What a difference. Six years and the style has changed so much I can't believe it is the same guy doing the repairs today. Now I know I have to get a new optical drive because mine has no sprocketsnor gears in working order, even if my laser still works. Swapping time, here we go!
i struggled way too long to get the upper case back on (last step). recommendation: as soon as the upper case is removed, separate it into two plates (top and front). MUCH easier to restore top face, then ribbon, then front face.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU so much for making such a detailed video of this! My laser was not broken, but my 2 year old had shoved a dead leaf into the disc drive and there was a stick that was stuck in it making it no longer play any discs. I followed your instructions to the letter and was able to open it up and thoroughly clean the disc injection area (of which I had to take that black piece off the front of the drive to get to all the small leaf pieces) as well as leaf parts in the disc seating area. I put everything back together and now we can play our favorite shows and video games again. Thanks again!
Today, 5 years later, I restored my Day One 2013 Edition, which was no longer able to read discs properly. Without your video I got stuck after removing the PCB. I saw no way to get to the laser. Thank you!
This procedure worked for me! Great job!! Notes: 1) make sure you take out game disc from CD drive, mine wouldn't restart until I removed! 2) that flat cable to the front panel is a real trick: my connector also had a small lock to undo, besides the loop around the connector. I put mine on the edge of a table so I could look up while connecting, this is suggested in the video, but it does help! I used flashlights to help see too! This might be trickiest part of the surgery!! 3) inside the DVD drive, there is a small black square thats actually a microswitch... I couldn't get control PC board in until I got this swith to ride on top of a white bar that must related to having the CD in... Thank you!!
The Xbox One Advanced Warfare Limited Edition is my longest owned Xbox One. I stood in line outside for 6 hours at Gamestop in the freezing cold for my preorder of this console. I don't know how. But I still have this Xbox One and it has not once giving me any issues whatsoever. I have taken good care of it and have kept it clean. I use a vacuum cleaner and suck out all the dust from the vents regularly to prevent major dust from getting deep inside the console. I haven't even broken the warranty sticker even though its way out of warranty. When the S came out I was going to upgrade. But ended up waiting. Then the X came out and I mistaken it for the next gen Xbox and made my purchase. I was going to sell my old Xbox One. But im so glad that I didn't. As now after all my bad luck after owning several brand new XB1X systems. That all seem to come faulty. The Advanced Warfare Xbox One limited edition will always remain my back up. So I can keep on gaming.
Old drive was not feeding properly. New drive would not read game discs. Swapped disc feed carriage in new drive to the other parts in old drive. 2 screws hold in the motor in the back left. No soldering needed. Everything works. Thanks for the video. Using the prongs for a fork perpendicular to the case also works for releasing tabs without the tool.
Hey man just wanna say thanks for the video!!! My mom got me one for Christmas 2nd hand. And when I got it home it wasn't reading disc. Followed your video to find a quarter stuck in the disc drive lol but thanks to your video I was able to fix my problem and put it back together piece of cake
When reassembling the case just un clip the face plate where the ribbon cable is. That way you can just snap on the top of the case. Then that makes it MUCH easier to install the ribbon cable and then just align the bottom clips of the front face plate and press in the top part and boom. Hope this comment helps at least one person having trouble with reassembling. Because ik I had a hell of a time.
Thanx to this video on how to take this blu ray drive apart, i manage to fix my problem which was i found a thin metal arm out of place. i manage to put it back in place reinstall the blu ray drive now its operational.
Dude! Been watching you for a couple of years and you're great. My friend needed his one cleaned and I totally forgot how to do the front panel reassembly. This is the first time I've seen one of your early vids. You made my day! You're absolutely excellent man, no matter how young. Keep the vids coming and thnx fr th mmrs 👍
This was very helpful. I was able to confidently and carefully pull apart my Xbox and I found out why my drive wouldn't properly accept discs.. It was a grape. Serious.
It has to be said, your videos are top quality and many thanks for the above video. I have a dead xbone drive and this may be the answer :) Oh and for the "Budding Electrician/Bodger", a tip... You own a mobile phone right? Take photos of the disassembly as you perform it. This way when it comes to putting it back together, you can follow the pics in reverse order :) Some ribbon cables can be a nightmare (PS2)
My dogs dragged my xbox 1 to the floor and now it's not reading dics. I found that same plastic piece and my disc driver is doing the same thing. Thank you so much! I should be back in business in no time
mine works if i inject game cd tilting the Xbox a certain way a bit.....lol...it that a laser issue...thing is I can tilt it back after detected and it's fine
When I put a disc in my Xbox, it makes the sound that it’s supposed to while the disc is going in, but it keeps making that noise for a second or two longer than it needs to and then it doesn’t even read it
Just pulled mine apart cleaned the laser and theres no errors nothing just doesnt even acknowledge theres a disc.... they should have never went with internal drives....
Same problem here on two different drives. I moved the daughter board to a new drive and the new drive still won't read / recognize any discs. I think they bricked my daughter board.
I can see, now, with my camera zoomed way in that my daughter board's surface mount voltage regulator is burnt out. I'm not good at removing or adding surface mount components. Without that Voltage regulator my daughter board is trash. Without the daughter board, the Blu Ray drive is trash. I really hate Microsoft's implementation of this. It's terrible.
Thanks a million for this video! My friend's kid had stuck a bunch of coins in the disc reader but this had me fix the problem and get back to gaming in no time! That last install of the top panel is hell, pretty much have to line up the bottom teeth and 🙏😳
Thought something was wrong because I would hit the eject on the new drive I installed and the trey would not eject. It has been so long I had used the disc drive I forgot it did not have a trey. So, ordered a new drive on amazon for $30, pulled the board from the old drive to the new one, 3 screws, 3 ribbons, and a simple solder of 2 wires, put her in, and works great. While I was in there I went ahead and pulled the heat sink off, cleaned it, and the fan up nicely. Removed the old thermal paste and applied some new thermal paste, might as well while you have it open, the old paste was pretty crusty. The Xbox one had a damaged non-working disc drive and the hard drive had just recently failed so it was a non-working Xbox one. I ordered a 1TB SSD to replace the old HDD, also this new disc drive. Installed the Xbox software update via thumb drive and now this old Xbox one is a brand new beast. Once I get all the games installed back on it I will be interested to see how its load times hold up to or surpass those of our Xbox one x. Thanks for the tutorial, I was worried a disc drive replacement would require getting it flashed or something. But just swapping the boards did the trick.
Just replaced my disk drive! Disc will go in slot and it seems to read but nothing appears saying the game is being installed. Could the laser be dirty?
Hi I just bought an Xbox like you did but I didn't spend $70 for it I only spent 40 but it has the exact same problem how much was the part cost to repair it
OMG haha thank you so much dudes!! never even pulled apart my xbox before and I've followed all steps and think i wanna start work in IT hahaha nah but thanks heaps, money savers
Keep in mind to make sure all ribbon cables are fully seated and locked into place. It any of them are loose there will be power issues S it won't run right. I just replaced the BR disc tray and didn't have the front power and eject ribbon cable fully seated which made the Xbox randomly turn on and off. It's quite annoying. After I replaced the disc drive it's like a brand new Xbox. Highly recommend doing thi yourself rather than sending it into Microsoft. Even more so if the Xbox is out of warranty and it doesn't matter if you break the seal or not.
Fantastic! I always see your videos nowaday, but you make me see perfectly how to close my son's console 7 years ago, while I was only insulting the gods old and new 😅🤣 Thanks!
I have an xbox one that wont take or read the disc, currently wont eject even with the manual eject(disc stuck when I was testing it), what will I need to fix it?
Thank god I found this I needed the last bit for the top cause I had gotten one from a client to clean and I’ve never had to clean one and the entire top is a pain to get on
Your link for the replacement part is for the whole drive. Is the average Joe able to buy just that particular part you had? Curious what the price difference is between that specific part and the entire drive? Thanks for the great videos!
You're doing a great job! It seems easy when watching you XD. That will help me to clean the dust on the internals I think my XOne start overheating from time to time.
i did not purchase an exta optical drive. i just cleaned the lense of the drive, included in my second hand xbod. there where parts of potato chips and oil from the previous owner inside. i've cleaned it with a q tip and alcohol
genl0rd o ok. Thanks for the detail. My ex girlfriend broke my madden game put some kind of sticky stuff on the game and forced the broken game into the tray. It still works and but it makes noises trying to read the disc and everytime I take a game out it has that sticky stuff on it from the previous game she forced in my xbox
Soldered board from my drive to a donor drive and it works like a charm now. Just unsure of why my rails are catching on the old one?? Would love to fix it to keep as spare.
That is ither the drive or most likely the fan rubbing on something. Pull it open and take a look. Hopefully, just a piece of debris and not the fan bearing going out or something, that is pretty rare.
I have a problem where the disc will eject, but will not take in a disc unless I force it in. Even then, it doesn’t go in completely and the disc cannot be read. Any advice?
Just had a go at my sons , a disc wouldn't eject then wouldn't go all the way in . Took it apart, cleaned the drive out and seems to be working now . At least I know I can replace the disc player for about £25 if I have to

I would love to have you guys repair it but as I'm located pretty far from you that's out of the equation ;) Would extremely appreciate any tips on where to acquire the part. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
+returnofthesoftstyle Which replacement part do you need? We can sell you the laser + carrier if that's what you need. You can contact us on our website: www.tronicsfix.com/contact.html
Yeah burn your console and games. Fk Xbox and Microsoft. I’m half convinced it’s software, so we buy another console. Sorry not buying game pass. Maybe a PlayStation. Funny how you don’t buy windows anymore, they make sure you have the new operating system.
Great video! Maybe you are the tech guru that can help me diagnose my One? I didnt use it for months, now it just wont turn on. I bought a brand new brick, no change. When you push the on button, it makes its "turning on" noise, and the immediately is off. No Green screen, orange light on brick,... any suggestions? Please help!
Was waiting for you to disassemble all way to repair..not replace. I have a spring loose in mine and dont know where it came from. Also, could you put the camera further away?
Great video. Thanks for the post! I have one comment though about the reassembly. I found it very difficult to get the front cover to align just right. I found it very easy to unsnap the front cover and place it on last. Just a tip if anyone had any issues like I did.
Hi great video, and it was successful and I used to change the whole drive but now Im having an error code and it says 'there is a problem with the disc dirve" so it wont read the disc, What do I do now?
So i have a xbox one regular and a slim. The slim disk tray doesn't wotk can i take the part from the one does work and put it into the other one like u did in this vid. Will that work?? 🤔
Thanks, I guess I missed it because I didn't click "show more." Great video, thank you so much. Mine won't spin discs and it seems that replacing the laser carrier piece you did in this video is the fix I need on mine. I will give it a shot and if it doesn't work you should be receiving my XB1 in the mail soon! Thank you again. **Edit: I checked the link for the laser, it looked in the video like the laser was attached to another panel that had the carrier and ribbon cables and other stuff on it. I think my problem is the spinner motor itself, would you happen to have a link for that?
How long would you guys think it would take from Oklahoma City? I read another commenter who said they got a 1 week turnaround? Kinda don't want to be without my XB1 for a long time if possible?
That depends on how quickly you ship it here and which repair speed you choose at checkout. We offer a one business day repair + 4-5 days for return shipping or you can pay to have it shipped faster. You can choose that at checkout.
Xbox really loves bios pairing with the drives dont they. I tried to fix a 360 and had no luck . Letting me know that this probably ismt q job for me lol. Thanks for the video though
Did you ever find out what that white plastic piece was, i have the same in mine, but was stuck to the top plate when it was removed. Couldn’t find anywhere for it.
Just reassembled my Xbox One, after replacing the disc drive (WITHOUT soldering. I removed the small rubber band and pulley off of the motor shaft instead. And removed the board and motor as one). Now my Xbox's fan is running load as soon as i plug it in! I reassembled everything correctly! Help! Edit: The disc drive itself is working correctly. Its just the fan is giving issue now.
This video looks great, but I am just not sure if mine is the laser. When I insert the disk it doesn't go in all the way. It like gets stuck and I would have to push the CD with my fingers and after that it still won't work. any suggestion?
Sounds like you might have a problem inside your disc drive. I can figure it out if you'd like to send it in: www.tronicsfix.com/collections/xbox-one/products/xbox-one-disc-drive-repair
Not sure if anyone will see a message after so long. Just a question, I have the original Xbox one, it reads and plays Blu-ray movies perfectly, but it will not read a game disc. Would it be the laser that needs replacing or could it be an issue with the drives daughter board? I don’t want to replace something unnecessarily Cheers

Yeah burn your console and games. Fk Xbox and Microsoft. I’m half convinced it’s software, so we buy another console. Sorry not buying game pass. Maybe a PlayStation. Funny how you don’t buy windows anymore, they make sure you have the new operating system.
I'm new to it channel and this info and videos are very helpful and interesting.. thank you very much
I bought a whole new disc drive. So I’m okay right I don’t need to fix the laser right?
I just sent my xbox to you... Can't wait to get her back
Thanks for your order! We'll get her back to you asap!
How much does that Park cost that's the exact fix I need for my Xbox
Thank you for the video. It was informative and helped a lot. Time for a new drive.
can you do a video where you show all possible problems and fixes for xbox one disc drive 500gb 1tb?
+toontownlegomaster We could probably do something like that at some point.
Awesome tutorial but sometimes I feel like I need to get the telescope out to see what’s going on. ;)
Do you have a HDD version of this please? for the OG xbox one.
How much is it to get your Xbox disc drive fixed? And where can I get it fixed?
6:37 the screws are longer than the console 😂😂😂😐😐😐😶😶😶😶😑😑😑😑
Good tip. Some people would probably do better that way.
my disc drive doesn’t even acknowledge the fact I put in a game. I have to press the eject button to put in games now.
Thank you sir 👍
Does that laser part work for all xbox ones? Or do you need specific laser part?
Great video! I was wondering if the replacement laser link in the description will work for an Xbox one S disk drive?
Hi great video, and it was successful and I used to change the whole drive but now Im having an error code and it says 'there is a problem with the disc dirve" so it wont read the disc, What do I do now?
Just picked up a used xbox and its not reading discs. Is there a way to test to see if it is infact a bad laser?
So i have a xbox one regular and a slim. The slim disk tray doesn't wotk can i take the part from the one does work and put it into the other one like u did in this vid. Will that work?? 🤔
Where did you guys get the replacement laser/spinner piece? I would like to purchase one. Thanks for the video, very helpful.
It's linked in the description.
Gotcha...I don't know of anywhere that sells them with the carrier. You may end up having to just replace the drive or send it to us for repairs.
Are they security drive screws or TORX screws???
Did you ever find out what that white plastic piece was, i have the same in mine, but was stuck to the top plate when it was removed. Couldn’t find anywhere for it.
Just reassembled my Xbox One, after replacing the disc drive (WITHOUT soldering. I removed the small rubber band and pulley off of the motor shaft instead. And removed the board and motor as one). Now my Xbox's fan is running load as soon as i plug it in! I reassembled everything correctly! Help!
Edit: The disc drive itself is working correctly. Its just the fan is giving issue now.
Can i take that piece you replaced out from an old blue ray player?
Any recommendations for where I can find the laser?
Maybe Amazon: amzn.to/2gdQ2Jw
Thanks! I ended up buying the Bf1 edition instead of buying a broken one and fixing it
Gotcha...cool!
TronicsFix thanks for this! Fixed my Xbox
May I ask how to get the screw out off the green motherboard please as it's got metal around the screw
I have installed 2 seperate disc drives and they both will take a disc in, wont read, and wont eject my disc. Any ideas?
Not sure if anyone will see a message after so long. Just a question, I have the original Xbox one, it reads and plays Blu-ray movies perfectly, but it will not read a game disc. Would it be the laser that needs replacing or could it be an issue with the drives daughter board? I don’t want to replace something unnecessarily Cheers
How would you get the disc out if it has one in there? That's the type of problem I'm having with mine.
The laser ribbon is damaged on the one I'm fixing. Is it possible to get just that alone?
