    My apologies to all of the critics. This was done in 2015 as an aside - just for kicks, not to be included in a doctoral thesis. There was hardly any research, I was just experimenting with a new video editor. If I do another, which is highly doubtful, I will be sure and include all the recommendations. I will also remove the players that Germany has blocked. You are all correct, there are many great players out there. My sorry again if I left out your favorite. By the time another video rolls out, the scene will likely be so full of great players, it will be impossible to add them all. Enjoy playing!

    Great list, great to see actual video footage of everyone playing, but how in the world do you leave out Slide Hampton???

    Yeah great. Is there pt.2 w/ Mangelsdorf, Hampton, Ray Anderson, George Lewis, Paul Rutherford, Benny Green, Roswell Rudd, Grachan, Knepper and Bert?

      "Ray Anderson". Now there's a player I need to look up and find an explanation of his work. I find it inexplicable--- along with Roswell Rudd.

    So many great players, many virtually unknown today.

    ... even DIE or WHICH was requested here missing, are all from the US-States, except Gunhild C. Many very good younger trombonists and / or play part-time in West-Europe, because there are still Radio-Orchestra (and Money for it), or have developed independently. See especially in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Austria or partly England, France, Spain and Italy u.s.w. The list of US-Heroes as role models would be long and 80% are already in the trombone-heaven. Only 0.7% of the population hear jazz, that's the crux of the great Music.

    Wycliffe Gordon is the master of lip flexibility

    • @geraldnichols2722
      @geraldnichols2722 6 років тому

      In brass instruments, EVERYTHING is done with the lips. The brass only amplifies the vibrations of air.

    of the guys on this list, I have personally performed with Watrous and Gordon. Two of the best trombonists ever to live. however, the best will always be the incomparable Frank Rosolino.

    Thank you for producing incontrovertible evidence that the trombone has emerged as the chief instrument that can replicate all of the conceivable sounds that the human voice cannot produce but wants to.

    I love this clip. I see many great trombone players in the comments that didn't make it in. Here are a few more: Bob Havens, Mathew Gee, Julian Priester, Willie Dennis, Barry Rogers, Buster Cooper, George Bohannon, Frank Rehak, Gene "Mighty Flea" Connors, Thurman Green, Bill Reichenbach, Michael Davis, & Harold Betters. It may be hard to find some video of these guys but they all have recordings available.

    Great clip thanks. I know everybody is always critical of youtube clips, my only negative is it is a bit blokey; where are the chicks ie Gunhild Carling?

    If I could, I would watch this hundreds of times! Congrats on a fine job putting this up! I was especially impressed by lesser-known player Dickie Wells who sounded far ahead of his time to me on this! I would add to it Paul "the trombonist" Nowell because he has his own recognizable style and sound.

    • @geraldnichols2722

      Miff Mole is an example of why trombonists should quit when they age. He kept on when he shouldn;t have.

      @@geraldnichols2722 On the other hand look at Dick Nash. I really enjoyed your compilation, some of these I had never seen. Sad so many are gone.
