I am so sick of people inflicting their opinions on those of us who are born and bred British, learnt about our history at school and are especially very proud of our music . Those negative comments are made by people who don’t know what they are talking about. They make themselves look ignorant.

I respect your comment. I am an American who respects the people and traditions of your beautiful country. Sadly, I have to admit that there are many are trying to change our country in much the same way as that person who is trying to change yours. One of those people is not even a citizen of our country, but of yours. He has criticized our cherished amendment giving us Freedom of Speech. He called it “Bonkers”.it was a friend of his who wants to eliminate the beautiful and inspiring “ Rule Britannia”. Both of those people are of similar opinions and along with others like them want to destroy the things that most of us from our two countries cherish the most. Please accept my wishes to you for a peaceful day.

I am also an American who loves my country and Great Britain, as well. Unfortunately we are at present polluted with many of ill intent who seem to claim their only significance by ruining cherished traditions from our country and Great Britain as well.
As an Australian in my primary schooldays we often sang Land of Hope and Glory and, even though I’m certainly not an Anglophile, I still find it a very rousing song (as is Rule Britannia); it doesn’t make me feel the slightest bit uncomfortable
It isn't racist. Everyone has songs which glorify their country. If you don't like it there are lots of planes going to other places.

The last night of the proms has a programme of music which includes patriotic songs and has done for years... if anyone feels uncomfortable with those pieces of music, they aren't obliged to attend...

So do I. I'm so glad I taped the Proms 30 years ago when they came out free to air on the ABC, the conductors were the witty and amusing poms we used to love, and Rule Britannia was reserved for the world's great tenors. They were terrific.

Maybe cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason should focus on how the attitude projected in this song signifies how Britain stood up against Germany in WW2 and protected all those, such as himself, who would have been persecuted had Britain fallen, rather than focus on what happened over 200 years ago which is not what this song refers to.

Britain was once Top Dog and we are now the Underdog thanks to the foreigners who have made Britain their home and are now trying to change all things that the British hold dear to their hearts. I love all those anthems and don't see anything wrong with them.
Rule Britannia is a classic addition to the Proms! It actually states ‘Britain never shall be slaves’ so it applies to today’s society more than it was ever meant to! We will never tolerate slavery nowadays so what’s the problem? Why be so touchy about a piece of beautiful music written over 300 years ago? Stupid!
