Vegetable oil with my step bit worked well on my stainless steel brew kettle. Also - instead of a utility knife, I found that my rounded file worked perfectly for cleaning the rough edges from the hole.
Nice job and good detail! I think a ball valve is pretty much essential for any large sized pot and very easy to install.. I'm thinking about moving my dip tube over to the side and start whirl pooling.. for one, I use hop bags but would like to do away with them to try and get better utilization.. or maybe try and find a better solution for filtering the hops and cold break into the fermenter.. I also just installed a site glass and LOVE It! Video coming soon!
@bjcpc0337 I have heard the key with SS is to use plenty of lubrication and teak breaks and let the bit cool. You should whirlpool after the boil and during cooling and allow the hot break and hop stuff to settle in the center of the kettle then route the out pickup tube to the side of the vessel. You may still get some but much less than the other ways and it is def easier than a siphon.
Stainless just takes longer due to the harder metal (of course) and you need to use plenty of lubricant and let the bit cool off occasionally. It can get very hot and you risk breaking it if you dont let it cool. As for the pickup tube, I think they are def necessary. W/o it you will leave a large amount of wort behind. U dont need much for a pick up tube, a 90* street would work. I had the copper laying around so I used that. Good luck, let me know how it turns out

@ColoradoFlyFisherMan I felt like that too. I wanted to make sure it was clear and every step even on this simple project was covered. As for the smoke detector, I did change the batteries, but it kept chirping for some reason so I disconnected that one....lol

A Brutus 10 style system. Single tier 3 vessel with a single pump (for the time being as I am a batch sparger, i'll get a 2nd pump once I start fly sparging) But I am planning to get a lot of video and still shots of the build as we go along and post them here.
@Runenaldo it was an estimate based on how I was going to build my pickup tube. I used some copper fittings ands the 90* I was using meant I'd need 1.5-2". Plus putting it that high gives u more surface area and I had a washer on the outside as well

There arent alot of videos detailing builds (tomroeder has one). I am not planning to automate mine (at least not initially). It will be a manual Brutus 10, although I will probably add a switch for the pump to ease in the on/off of that...
I guess you can try. I think the step bit is easier, but I cannot say for sure as I have never tried it. I guess if you have a bit that is big enough to punch the hole for the nipple, the go for it.

Hi I don't know about any brewing at all, I just want to know if this weldless valve work on stock pot ? I mean will the silicon ring stand up to the heat when I cooking the soup spot? thank you !

the silicone ring I used here has always held up without any issues. no problem
