  • What does it mean when a radio has matching tags, or no tags? What is Depot, and does it mean a bum radio?

I know this is a VERY late comment, but the flash on the 6000R contains APX XE rugged radio lol. Flash looks legit though

I'm a former police/swat officer, I never liked this kind of radios that require the internet or someone else having to do stuff to them, I currently own a Radtel RT630 ip67 (around $40), does 15W on some frequencies, 15-560mhz and can (and I wouldn't because it's ilegall) transmit almost 5W on 295mhz for worldwide communications via satcom if shtf, also a $15 quansheng uv-k5(8) with nunu firmware is a must for any prepper, even does encrypted messaging and receives really good CB, 15-1300mhz..usb-c charginge etc

I agree, and that scares me, especially with regard to the new Motorola on-line portal option for programming. In the words of a former counter-intelligence officer, if you want to keep something safe, don’t put it on the internet.

@@AdventureCruiser Sadly...the only safe place for information is on a hidden encrypted ssd (if it's not found), police can use encase and celebrite to crack any phone (one thing someone can do to make it harder is to turn off their phone before it's confiscated), as for radios, with a $30 RTL-SDR V4 or a rsp1...it can pretty much receive any radio communication even on your phone...or with some windows software it can easily demodulate trunked radios, DMR, DSTAR and even tetra (unless encrypted which would make it ilegall).😸

The depot isn’t always a bad thing. It all depends how much they have tinkered with it.
Since the APX6000 is no longer serviced by Motorola it doesn’t matter if it’s been depoted to a point.
I’ve used it to turn FPP on with my apx6000 because Motorola won’t add it after the fact on a radio.

@@OuterSpaceJake sorry, that’s what I ment. Right now eBay is full of the AN and just a few BNs.

@@BVN-TEXAS More and more BNS come aval. But think about it an 6k and 7k, tagless isnt a big deal. There EOL anyways. Theres no real servicing

How often do these things fail over some kind of software issue (that is no bricking it while programming). I see everyone talking about this, then I see a lot of guys talking about how ther volunteer company is running 20 year old HT1250s, so I dunno...

very rare for them to software fail, unless they get inhibited and the trunking system makes the radio useless

there are some software issues with newer CPS versions that break.
