I am part dutch with an american mother and moved back to the netherlands as a young child. My mother initially was horrified by zwarte piet. Until she saw the traditionz and celebration. Realised that its a different culture and happily participated for years. And i plan to do the same

It's actually a lot more complicated: The chimney thing is a bit of an excuse used to exlain Black Pete to children. In reality the looks of Pete resemble black Morisch tradesmen from around the golden age, which in the case of The Netherlands is historically understandable. In surrounding countries there's a similar celebration of Sinterklaas (st. Nicolas) each year, but the black helpers/comrades of the saint look completely different: sometimes it's crow, but some of them look like monsters or demon (Krampus). From historical perspective we should understand that most of these celebrations are combined local paganism with Christianity. Sadly from 'modern' perspective it's all racism and colonialism.

This is called “cognitive liberty.” You have the cognitive liberty to call yourself whatever you want, but don’t try to destroy MY cognitive liberty to choose basic truth. Most importantly, don’t call the destruction of my cognitive liberty “respect.” These are very different things and this is, at best, a logical fallacy (and, at worst, a manipulative technique that I can see right through).
The thing with pronouns is they're used in 3rd person. You only use them when speaking to someone else about that person. So it's controlling how you talk about them, not to them.

In that sentence alone lies the fundamental problem, which is that people conflate truth with belief.
Our truth just means our perception of reality. It's equivalent to a schizophrenic saying everyone has to believe the voices in their head and act accordingly. It has nothing to do with the truth.
