Problem 1: starts at 0:00: How to calculate regular pay Problem 2 starts at 1:34: How to calculate the overtime rate Problem 3 starts at 3:05: How to calculate the total pay if you work overtime i.e. over 40 hours Problem 4 starts at 7:20: Using algebra to figure out your regular rate if you are given the total pay that includes overtime
Actually overtime premium is as follows: if your overtime rate is 1.5 times the regular rate, the overtime premium is just the “half” part. For example if you work 41 hours, and your regular rate is $10 per hour, and Your overtime rate is 1.5 times your regular rate, then you would be paid $15 per hour for your overtime. The overtime premium would be $15 minus $10 which equals five dollars. In short for this example, the overtime premium is five dollars. I’m pretty sure this is correct.
How do I calculate how many hours I have works when the amount of hours aren’t even. For example if I work from 7:00 to 3:45 how would I write that into the equation ?
Good question: from 7 to 3:45 is a total of 8 hours and 45 minutes. now the tricky part is the the 45 minutes since it is not a complete hour. if you think of a clock 45 minutes covers 3/4 of an hour each (15 minutes is 1/4 hours.) 3/4 is 0.75 so 45 minutes is 0.75 hours. Or you could look at it this way there are 60 minutes in an hour. So think the following: part over total i.e 45/60 if you divide this on a calc you will get 0.75. So in short you have 8 hours + 0.75 hours. add those together and you get a TOTAL of 8.75 hours. Hope this makes sense!
How would I calculate if the statement states that his regular working hours is 40 hours but then when I count the number of hours he worked for the week it is only 38 hours? it also says that with overtime adds a 0.25 premium. It makes me confuse since he worked 10 hours on Thursday is that overtime or not?
Not sure if I understand. If someone only works 38 hours there isn't overtime, unless perhaps they are working on holidays. 0.25 premium probably means 1/4 overtime so you would get .25 times your regular hourly rate.
Yes, you multiply by 3. But make sure you multiply the regular rate by 3 and not the hours worked. For example, if your regular rate is $10 per hour and your overtime rate is triple. You would multiply $10 per hour by 3 which would give you $30 per hour which would be your overtime rate. Therefore any hours (during one week) up to 40 hours you will get paid $10 per hour. Any hours over 40 hours you will get paid $30 per hour.
Working more than 8hrs in a day offer the same ot rate as over 40hrs in a week. If it more than 12hrs in a day the the rate increases double (ex $13.00 per hour * 2=*$26.00) Not everyone considering for OT HOURS
👋🏾Weiss Anthony works as a certified caregiver and works 35 hrs a week @$13.00 hr he gets paid bi-weekly so he noticed on his paystub that his 70 hrs brings him a gross of $910.00 so when he works on holidays the company takes 5 hrs from the 70 and pays him that for holiday pay so now his work hrs are 65 hrs and 5 hrs holiday pay. Is this right?
Any work hours in the same week period after 40 hours is considered overtime. Some company don't pay overtime and/or holiday pay, etc.. just straight pay.
He actually made more with the OT. $13.00*35=455(2)=*$910.00 With the OT total hours work: 70 OT hours work: 5 Regular hours work: 65 $13.00*65=$845.00 reg. $19.50*5=$97.50 ot $845.00+$97.50=$942.00 total paid With the OT pay, he made $32.00 extra $942.00-$910.00=$32.00
Some people are just meant to teach! You did an Excellent job at explaining with clarity.

If the problems say that pays overtime by triple. is as simple as multiply the hours by 3?

If someone is a full time employee but does not work over 40 in a week but over 8 in a day do they get overtime over the 8?

$13.00*35=455(2)=*$910.00
With the OT
total hours work: 70
OT hours work: 5
Regular hours work: 65
$13.00*65=$845.00 reg.
$19.50*5=$97.50 ot
$845.00+$97.50=$942.00 total paid
With the OT pay, he made $32.00 extra
$942.00-$910.00=$32.00
Thanks man
sir I don't understand it's hard
Regular pay * hours work=total hours work (w/out OT)
Regular pay + OT
50 HRS total work
40 regular hours
10 OT hours
Pay rate * 40= total pay of reg hours
Pay rate *1.5 OT=OT pay rate
OT Pay rate *10 =total OT pay hours
Reg + OT=TOTAL PAY
