So incredibly fascinating to learn about these untold stories. So of us Americans have a genuine thirst for facts as opposed to the trite mythology we've been taught for so long.

When any people whether they be black or any color fighting for their freedom you have to respect them.

Actually there was ALSO a real underground railroad as well. That is part of the reason the phrase did not get picked up as meaning something else by slave owners or people trying to catch escaped slaves.

He said Florida became a state in 1821, that mean the Bahamas still had slavery as well
Because the British abolished slavery in 1834 and Florida got statehood in 1845, but the Spanish gave up Florida in 1821.

In 1825 the British government declared that anyone who traveled to British grounds, regardless of their prior status, was free and nine years later in August 1834, slavery was abolished throughout all British territories including the Bahamas. In the Early 1800’s slavery in British Canada and British held territories was already heavily restricted and abolished in some places and unlike southern states, black people in the Bahamas in the 1800’s could of own land, get an education, get married and have their own business.
