      In this case, burning the library may well be what preserved it! Clay tablets in ancient Mesopotamia were not traditionally fired, so being subjected to such a fire actually made them more durable and likely to survive for millennia. Later libraries would suffer much more greatly, since their texts were on paper or parchment.

      I think a major problem is the casting. Like Gods of Egypt, 300, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Clash of the Titans, Cleopatra, or The Immortals? What’s with all the American and British actors? 🤷‍♂️ It’s very rare to see a historical film with actors that are casted that actually look like the people they’re portraying. Usually investors don’t want to gamble their money on a movie they think audiences won’t watch. I think they should give it a go and see what happens, but I’m alone on that one.

      Assyrians dont exist anymore. The persians demolished and made them go extinct. More than 2000 years ago. So whatever was left of their ppl, language and culture got lost with the extinction. Its Historical facts.
      The ppl of today who call themselves "Assyrians" are actually Syriac arameans. They are not assyrians. They themselves identified as arameans until beginning of last century when there was a power conflict within the syriac aramaic church which made some ppl want to exclude themselves from the church and from their own identity. How? By renaming themselves Assyrians so they would seclude themselves as far as possible from and remove all ties with the Jacobite Syriac aramaic church.
      However this renaming is weird and wrong. You cant just claim a name that belongs to someone else...and this is a fake rebirth of the Assyrian name 2000 years after the extinction of Assyrians...hope this clarified. The ppl calling themselved Assyrians are not the real assyrians of history.

      @Faris Fasil Of course. Assyrians are indigenous people. They should have the right to keep their identity, and part of their identity is their homeland. If you dont think they should have a state, give me a good and legitimate reason why they shouldnt have it.

    • @eurostar0711
      @eurostar0711 4 роки тому +23

      @Faris Fasil They are literally the same people just different identity. Babylonian came after Assyrian Empire fell, and Akkadians are people who preceded Assyrians. There are Assyrians today who still read and write Sumerian cuneiform, and Akkadian tribe was part of Sumerian civilization before they revolted to create Akkadian Empire. Go to Iraq and Syria and ask anyone who the original people are, they will tell you its Assyrian. How come they know this, and you dont?

    • @eurostar0711
      @eurostar0711 4 роки тому +19

      @Faris Fasil No, Assyrians are older and they conquered Babylon. When Assyrian Empire fell, Babylonians created Babylonian Empire. Please educate yourself and then comment. Assyrians didnt remove any culture, we were the only people preserving Sumerian culture until modern day and now many people worldwide are helping to do the same. Islamic people erase cultures, thats why nobody knows about pre-islamic history in Saudi Arabia for example, this is why people like you want to discredit Assyrians because we know what they are hiding from the world.

    *All empires fall, eventually. But why? It’s not for lack of power. In fact, it seems to be the opposite. Their power lulls them into comfort. They become undisciplined. Those who had to earn power are replaced by those who have known nothing else, who have no comprehension of the need to rise above base desires.*

      Good eye, MorfeoRenaissance! Romans eventually phased out using the phalanx, but from the founding of their city-state until the close of the 2nd century BC, the Romans found the Greek-style phalanx suitable for fighting in the plains of Latium. (Before they transitioned to the more well known legion). Love finding history buffs here in the comments! :)

      TED-Ed
      The sarissa was never used by the kingdom of Rome. Well, at least it wasn't widely used since there are only two (I could be mistaken but meh) Roman sarissas in the whole Latium dated before 300aC. On the contrary there are many archeological findings, near Tursculum and Tuscia, that show us spears and oval Etruscan shields in use by the Roman warbands.
      Tldr: were there roman warbands that used sarissas? Maybe. I wouldn't bet on it. Was that common? Nah.
      But the original point is: what is the point of showing "roman phalanxes" when Rome is worldwide famous to this day for the legions? It was just a writing error, that's all. No need to justify it.

      Then The King Of Assyria Brought People From Babylon, Cuthah, Ava, Hamath, And From Sepharvaim, And Placed Them In The Cities Of Samaria Instead Of The Children Of Israel;
      And They Took Possession Of Samaria And Dwelt In Its Cities. And It Was So,
      At The Beginning Of Their Dwelling There,
      That They Did Not Fear The Most HigH YEHOVA;
      Therefore The ELoHIM Sent Lions Among Them, Which Killed Some Of Them.
      So They Spoke To The King Of Assyria, Saying, “The Nations Whom You Have Removed And Placed In The Cities Of Samaria Do Not Know The Rituals Of The ELoHIM [YEHOVA] Of The Land; Therefore HE HAS SENT Lions Among Them, And Indeed, They Are Killing Them Because They Do Not Know The Rituals Of The ELoHIM [YEHOVA] Of The Land.”
      Then The king Of Assyria Commanded, Saying, “Send There One Of The Priests Whom You Brought From There; Let Him Go And Dwell There, And Let Him Teach Them The Rituals Of The ELoHIM [YEHOVA] Of The Land.”
      Then One Of The Priests Whom They Had Carried Away From Samaria Came And Dwelt In Bethel, And Taught Them How They Should Fear The ELoHIM [YEHOVA].
      However Every Nation Continued To Make (gods) Of Its Own, And Put Them In The Shrines On The (high places) Which The Samaritans Had Made, Every Nation In The Cities Where They Dwelt.

      [The Children Of Jacob],
      Whom HE Named Israel,

    I wonder why every time a empire disintegrated, the collective knowledge always get destroys in part or completely? Every time there an civil war or peasant revolt, the library (and the palace) always get sacks and the works and knowledge of an entire empire for hundred of years get wipe out. Is this why it takes so long for mankind to grow out of the early state of human civilization?

    • @TwistTimHansel
      @TwistTimHansel 6 років тому +14

      My theory is that part of it is from within. A desire that no one get what "we had" without earning it. Usually the invader is stronger but not smarter than the invaded, so people without the knowledge of the ancients, but that they had a grand empire might ask some who remain and have preserved a fraction of what was lost to lead.
      Then there the is the factor of religious texts and documents on other forms of government being present in those libraries, a dangerous thing to those who hold power. If people can read these things and learn on there own another way, then the leaders they have now could be toppled. A monarchy is only secure if the King is the only one who knows how to throw it down.
      Then there is the factor of location, many libraries were built along walls and when the walls went, well there goes the library. In a desire to win, well they just kept going and didn't bother to pick the books back up or read them. Which is why several ancient texts were literally found to be stomped on.

    • @alecshockowitz8385
      @alecshockowitz8385 6 років тому +6

      It's not necessarily that it's all destroyed. Likely much of it was taken during the sacking and sold to others. But we just don't have records of those works remaining today. This was likely made more likely that knowledge would be lost due to the fact that few people knew how to read or write and materials to do so was quite expensive.

      Hùng Nguyễn Quốc I completely agree. This is why we lost more knowledge than we ever had, because wars destroy everything for resources and people for power, though the knowledge from generations before pass on to us is eliminated I assume is to keep us in fragile state not to revolt. Opposed rise to oppressors, winners right history, the strong devour weak, endless cycle have we not learned from history. We keep making same mistakes me learn very little and call it something different though it may look, sound, feel better, does not make it true.
      Humanity will be free of mind body and spirit once we end wars, borders, oppression, slavery, gender inequality, status and value of life.

      Akkadians, Arameans, Summarians and Babylonians are all of the same people. The Assyrian Empire included seven great civilisations (the ones listed above being a few) that were all originally Assyrian and other nations that all adopted the Assyrian language and customs when they were conquered. During Jesus’ time on earth, he spoke Aramaic, the language of Assyrians, which was the dominant language of his time. Today, Akkadians, Arameans, etc. are referred to as Assyrians. Modern Chaldeans are also part of our nation but were purposely separated from us to weaken us as a group. Now more than half don’t care to admit that their ancestors are Assyrian and the latter nation is suffering severely to this day.

      Brainwashed Assyrians rewriting history again. I will give you some knowledge of our modern history if you want it, but first I will talk about the ancient history you butchered and rewrote.
      Akkadians were the ancestors of the ancient Assyrians, not the other way around.
      Babylon was Amorite, Kassite, etc etc until the Chaldeans took it over, the Chaldeans came from around modern day Syria. They migrated to and conquered Babylon, then ultimately played a part in destroying the Assyrian Empire. The city state of Babylon was never occupied and ruled by Assyrians while it was independent from the Assyrian Empire, apart from during rebellions of Assyrian princes and such who were instated as rulers of Babylon after it was conquered by the Assyrians. When Babylon was completely independent from Assyria, before and after the Assyrian Empire, it was never occupied or ruled by people of Assyrian origin.
      Arameans lived in modern day Syria, mainly outside of the region known as Mesopotamia, and had a different language to Assyrians, who used Akkadian, until the Assyrians eventually adopted the Aramaic language. This is why Aramaic is and was more similar to ancient Hebrew than it is to Akkadian, apart from loan words and such from Akkadian. Shame on you for saying Mesopotamians are exactly the same as them. You insulted us and you insulted the Arameans by saying something like that. We are brothers, but only because we are both Christians, only because we share the same language, not because we are the same. Apologise to them for trying to steal their history, and apologise to your family, yourself, and all Christians from Mesopotamia for trying to dilute our history. Shame on you.
      Akkadian had loan words from Sumerian. Sumeria was on the other end of Mesopotamia from the core of Assyria and the Sumerians had almost disappeared before the city of Ashur was even formed, so how could they have actually been Assyrians?
      Now, modern history. Let me first ask you a question before we get into this conversation. I am willing to bet that you were originally Catholic and originally you are Chaldean, or maybe even Syriac. I am willing to bet that your parents identified themselves as one of these two and that you are a youngster who never lived in Iraq and never met actual original Nestorian Assyrians, you have only met other originally Chaldean youngsters like yourself who now claim that they are Assyrians. I am also willing to bet that if your parents are Chaldean, you never actually listened to them when they talked about the original modern Nestorian Assyrians from Iraq, or you never asked them about them. If your parents identity themselves as Assyrian, I am willing to bet that they have been affiliated with the ADP for a long time, since their youth, and that their parents, your grandparents, are originally Catholic Chaldeans or Syriacs. You know why I am willing to bet all this? Because the original Nestorian “Assyrians” from before the ADP are a small group and most modern so called Assyrians have no relation to them. They have only started going to Nestorian churches and called themselves Assyrian recently, after most of us left Iraq. If you want to start this discussion, tell me the answers to these. Goodbye.

    I am from Assyria from Nineveh. I was hoping that we had no civilization previously because of the war against us previously. Now, and the ambitions of the different countries are with us, I hope we can live a happy life. But what do we do? 💔😢

    You mention Rome whilst showing a picture of a Greek/Macedonian phalanx, seems a bit odd to me. Rome did away with that really early in their history and won an empire fighting in the maniple system, they mainly had infantry with short swords called a gladius...

      What do you mean? Assyria is long gone and is replaced by Iraq. But dont worry, just like the Assyrian Empire Iraq will die too soon, if they keep living like this. And then another civilization will be born. Just make sure you marry another Assyrian because you people are rare.
