I love listening to all of the available studio and live versions of this masterpiece. This may be my ultimate favorite. Insane drum work and such a tight band - phenomenal...superb bass and guitar riffs out of nowhere. Perfect song for headphones - loud - helps me think there is still more good in our world.
I aint living in the dark no more it’s not a promiss I’m just gonna call it …. I feel that ❤️❤️ soo beautiful and Poetic the lyrics are Sometimes hard to realy understand but I feel this version deeply
Agreed. This song found me and I found it at the right time in my life. It opened me up. I just got it as I was stood by the Peace memorial in Hiroshima after splitting from my wife. I think I went to find myself and instead I found Bon Iver 🙌🏻
based on an interview i heard for this song, the feeling that people get when they listen to Beth/Rest is i think what he was embodying, though the lyrics are heavily poetic and hard to follow, we can sense this whole thing about moving on, moving foreword. The pain, the hope, the uncertainty, and the excitement of new possibility in the journey ahead. Also, he likes Bruce Hornsby from what I can tell.
The first time listening to Bon Iver was after a really shitty day at school. I had thrown on some music when I got home and just cried for a while until I fell asleep in my bedroom. UA-cam had kept playing tons of music while I was asleep and when I woke up, the entirety of Bon Iver was the video playing and Beth/Rest was on. There was rain outside, but the sun was still shining through a bit. It was one of those moments where you know you’re never going to forget it, and I haven’t. I don’t think I ever will, cus I knew when I heard this song that everything was gonna be okay.
I cant stop listening to this, breaking it down and listening over and over, coming out of the bridge is just some amazing composing. Best of heard, i give it as much props as Freebird...not enough people have heard this.
You know, I've been trying to explain why I like Bon Iver so much to my wife and this is a very good explanation. With Justin's falsetto it can be hard to understand what he's saying sometimes, but I really don't care. The orchestration of his music just makes you feel things in the strangest way.
4:20 onwards is simply stunning arrangement and improvisation, the way the tension is elevated and breaks in a wave that washes over in a beautiful flourish

I have no fucking idea what this song is about but it's like I know what it means just by listening. That makes no sense.

I also had her listen to the rare book room version of Beth/Rest and she exclaimed "if he has THAT singing voice, why does he ever sing falsetto?"

Intense and emotional song.
Congrats from 🇧🇷
One of the best songs i have heard!
Listen to this AT LEAST once a day. From 4:30 on, truly amazing. Amazing composition.
This one is still forever.
It's the most deeply layered version and it works deep down with that ramped up bass and drums.
Nice song 👍💯❤️
