It would be fun to tag along on his shopping sprees and to see a beginning of the season video vs. end of season video. Thanks for introducing this wonderful gardener to us.
He told me he only completely refills pots where the rootball takes out all the soil. Other than that, he keeps the potting soil and adds fresh each year.
Deronis has an amazing talent with flowers. Reminds of Monet who experimented with colors with the use of flowers. I'm hoping to visit his garden next year. Deronis - check out the Chicago Botanic Garden! I'm a member and absolutely get inspired by all of the different plant combos and varieties. You would thoroughly enjoy it! Another amazing inspiration for me is Great Dexter gardens in England. There are several UA-cam videos.
Hi Bethany. I am in zone 6a as well. I seem to be two weeks late to what seems like a truly wonderful event. Deronis certainly has a wonderful soul. Offering the plants to people is a brilliant idea considering it extends the life of the plants as well it gives some people the opportunity to have certain plants they may not otherwise be able to afford or acquire; especially at the growth stage they have achieved from his care. I currently only have garlic chives, parsley, wild strawberries, dill, and raspberries growing. I have been prepping my soil and doing research for the past two years on nutrient dense edible and medicinal plants and plan to start an entirely new garden next year. The only stipulation I have to my new garden is I made the decision to ONLY acquire plants, cuttings, or seeds by foraging for them or acquiring them from family, friends, neighbors, or seed share groups. This could have been a great opportunity to get a head start on my plans. I will have to keep Deronis in mind for next year. Thank you for sharing this information.
How does he get his plants every year? If you've asked this question I missed it. I hope it's not "all" from the stores. Coleus can be started from seeds easily and sweet potato vines can winter over from small cuttings. This year I grew 22 cells of coleus and each cell had multiple plants sprouting. Because mine is a mixed seed packet I didn't know what varieties I'd get from each cell. I ended up planting each cell as is without dividing into different containers and a garden bed. They filled up the space beautifully and complemented other plants around them. I also grew many sweet potato vines from one Costco sweet potato and one Treasure Island Manihi plant I mail ordered. The colors and textures they provide are amazing. Together with wintered-over geraniums and lantanas, self-seeded cosmos and marigolds, zinnias and gomphrenas started from seeds, they gave me a beautiful garden without me spending much money at all. Composting all the garden materials will produce good soil for next year as well.
What a cool person and garden. I love what he does :)
I needed to visit Chicago when he give the plants away lol. They are so beautiful.
I would love to see him plant the planters in the spring. ❤
“Ideas cost money.”😅 We can relate. Great interview. Beautiful garden.
What a great way to build community! 🥰

I need to see his shopping trips!
That's very special that he shares with his community.
What a wonderful man. I adore his spirit.
That is so awesome! What a nice guy he is! His grandma is so proud of him looking down from heaven!
She definitely is!
I totally get that not wanting to know how much he spends on plants!
I am the exact same way 🤣🤣🤣
I wonder how he refreshes the soil in his containers? Does he put all new potting soil in? That in itself is a big investment.

Good gifts .
Yeeey👏👏👏
I'm so upset I missed the giveaway , I live right in the neighborhood
Make sure to follow him on IG for when he announces it next year! I’ll also share it here.
When did it stop
Hello, whats the name of the elephant ear and where did he buy it ? Beautiful garden, I live in Chicago and love to garden.
Awesome Beauty
I would like to know if he mulches the containers for the time they sit unused. Thanks.
I don’t believe so. It sounds like once the plants are out, the containers are left as is until next spring.
I wonder if he's thought about doing a Christmas wonderland in his yard?🤔
Omg he needs to!
Does he change out his soil every year?
Does he change the soil every year or just add fertilizer.
He keeps the soil left over and adds to it!
Know when what is that
What day stops
Is it too late? Can we still go?
It is now, but follow him on IG for next year!
Is he single?
He is not 😆
