I was able to make out one word that Dad said to her after she fell, which was "Terpi" in Russian that can be translated as "Endure" in imperative form. This is probably the attitude a champion is brought up!
I don't think that was Russian (I am native Russian speaker), I don't think they communicate in Russian at this important moment since Nastia's Russian is far from fluent
Nastia is such a gorgeous gymnast. And she is the opposite of cookie cutter. Her bar routine is inventive and different. She was such an asset to the sport. Sheerly gorgeous gymnast.
I know it was upsetting at the time, but it's good to make mistakes earlier than later. I think Valeri once said he was concerned that Nastia kept winning, because she might be getting too confident. In a way, I think that was unfortunately what happened to Shawn; people said she was overscored in the US competitions, so she didn't realize that she would get these form deductions at the Olympic, and then end up with AA silver. Whereas Nastia made these mistakes and struggled with injury, but that kept her vigilant about all the things she needed to work on. No shade on Shawn, she was a phenomenal gymnast too.
Did it really occur to any of the commentators that in 10 years time, one of them will be replaced by this girl and will be co-commentors for the other two??🌝
What a change in times does. A fall 3 yrs before the Olympics and 16 years later and 5 Olympic medals and she's sitting next to the same guy who was commenting on her gymnastics as his college.(Tim).
Of course she has that rare gymnastics “look” and everything, she was was literally *bred* to be an incredible gymnast 😄 in any case though, her bar work really was first class 😍
What is meant is this the the first time she competed the geinger at Natls. I her book she says the fell on it at her first Natls then ended her career falling on the same skill.
I hope she dossent fall if she falls I will be mad I don't know how old she falled on bars that makes me angry how stupid is that but she didn't fall on other events but I'm angry right now 😆
She had a phenomenal swing and while she doesn't look as strong as some other gymnasts, to pull off an effortless long kip from hanging takes a LOT of strength. Lovely to watch.
i have 2 things to say... #1. i can do a whole bunch of flips like back handspring and front and side aerial and stuff and #2.i wanna go to the olympics one day like gabby douglas even though im only 11
You're the perfect age assuming you were born in 2004. Most people going to the olympics are already elite by age eleven though, so keep that in mind. Remember, the olympics isn't all there is: do well enough and you can go to college for free.
Gymnasts are trained to fall so they don't hurt themselves. The spotter is only there to grab them if they are going to land wrongly or dangerously e.g. on their head. Nastia's spotter - her dad - could see she was falling correctly and got out of the way, as he is meant to do.
I wonder why she didn't try to do the release again after getting back on bars. I mean, I know the deduction will still happen, but it would've been cool to show the audience you CAN do it? Also, can you break your toes if you hit the low bar while doing a giant on the high bar? Anyway, very cool dismount she did!
She probably wanted to save her stamina and just complete the routine. It was a better decision in case she fell on it again because two falls would have been worse and releases can still drain a gymnast
It’s pretty easy to break a toe…so maybe. I’ve broken one by brushing it accidentally on the edge of the bath whilst getting in and another by accidentally kicking a torch just when I missed sliding my foot into a shoe - I’m a klutz. So I guess, if you hit the bar with enough force and the right angle, then maybe?
@@murasakino101she ended up with two falls anyways since her feet hit the mat after that pak, but you're right, it was smart of her not to do it again, especially with how frazzled she clearly was.
Tim Daggett just meant that it was rare for someone with her "long lines" to do the difficult elements cleanly and in a technical correct manner because she was thinner and leggier, as opposed to the shorter, more muscular and powerful type like Shawn Johnson. Nastia wasn't tall, but she looked long and lean compared to the other, bulkier American gymnasts. Ironically, her body type was totally the norm for gymnasts in previous eras.
Lindsay Walton No as in when she screws up she loses her place within the routine and never recovers from the screw up. she never has a plan be to get back on track and still get the score ..
Lindsay Walton Sigh you're not getting what i am saying. No most actually can shake it off and keep going, some can, some can't. What i'm trying to say is that she should have learned from this and broke out of the habbit of becoming lost after she fell..
TurboCMinusMinus which actually makes him even more disgusting if you think about it. With some of these perverts you can wonder if they're truly sick and genuinely can't control themselves and need to be locked away simply for treatment. But in this case the fact that he was calculating enough to stay professional with the big-name coach's daughter because he knew he'd get caught immediately if he did prey on her, shows that he COULD control himself and actively CHOSE not to with all the others.
I remember when I was little I thought that the coach would catch you and that means you lose and whem they didn't thw gymnast would win and now that im in gymnastics I don't think that till I was 5 don't judge me I was 2
My point is Nastia Luikin is not even a Russian National, she's an American..in fact she and her family changed their names structure to erase their heritage, a proof that they abandon their Russian ancestry ....and here you defending them as they were Russian Hero...and otherwise you trashing the whole finn whose many living in Russia and have Russian nationality and actually did help build Russia to become superpower..
I never liked her on bars back then. She always looked like she dreaded it. Even through 2008 she always thought was better. I guess we hats a Russian thing! She’s now become an annoying commentator joining the worst ever Tim Douche, 😞
I swear the commentators voices never change for like 30 years
Close practically twenty.
Omg that guy does my head in, and his “oh boys”! I can’t take it!!
Maya Bellow they started in 1992 , so yeah like 30 years

Not exactly. Nastia becomes the commentators now. And I love her voice there lol

Commentator: Here comes a release, and a beautif- *nastia falls*
Terrible commentators, all of them.
You know he is a former olympian?
She decided to were her pretty white Leo!
I think she's going to fall I'm scared but she struggled that's bad
Audrey Capinegro Who cares, he's still horrible.
She will always remain amongst one of the most beautifully elegant in her gymnastics practice. I never get tired of watching her routines.
Even when Nastia misses, all you remember are her perfect lines and toe point. She hits those handstands beautifully.

I like how she never gives up !!!☺
Gymnast Katherine Russians never give up

😂 I often wonder whether Elfi regrets her very public infatuation with Nastia.
She finished strong
those falls made her be better and a great olympic gymnast!
One the way she landed was beautiful! 😲😲
I'm watching nastia liukin
Mindi Meyer duh isn’t that why we are all here??

She’s a true champion, I just love watching her perform.
That landing was stunning
Her work on the beam is stunning! And on the bar!❤️
beautiful routine up to the fall, just gorgeous bar work
She got back up & finished it and that is awesome. 💕
her dad kinda looks like Putin
all russians looks the same ^^
+kakadu haha true
Reminds me of Christian Slater
Hahah yeah agreed! Like young Putin tho :D
Lol! With hair!
8.875 with a fall!!! Amazing 😍
She fell duh maybe thats why she was about to cry. But she put it behind her and had an incredible finish!!!
i wonder at this time if she knew she would become an olympic champion
Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall - Confucius
She is so elegant on bars. Her release skill was actually quite lovely, even though she missed. Nice form on bars.
She is AMAZING!
That fall looks like it hurts though.
She’s wonderful and her dad is gorgeous. 😬
She is AMAZING!
I know
The double Layout was a mich bitter dismount for her
She was just a baby. This was one of her first competitions at the senior level, wasn't it? She was nervous.
I would probably have tripped walking up to the bars. She's incredible.
this makes me so proud
you can see how flustered she is after that fall. still great finish tho. that has got to be hard especially for someone so young
love how he's like beautifuuuu.....ohhhh lol
shes amazin'
Is this the fall she writes about in her book? She says she fell on this skill and then ended her career falling on this skill.
+E Long Yes it is; she fell on it when trying to make her comeback at the 2012 Olympic Trials.
No. This was in 2005. She fell on her geingher release at the 2012 Olympic Trials which ended her career.
+Logan Cox It's the same skill though.
What is meant is this the the first time she competed the geinger at Natls. I her book she says the fell on it at her first Natls then ended her career falling on the same skill.

No, it was the sound of the bar (there's one as she grips on and one when she's doing her cast)
Gorgeous
it was only a 5 tenth deduction for a fall and now it is a point, wow there is alot of changes in gymnastics.
because scores are almost doubled now in the new code of points
She had a phenomenal swing and while she doesn't look as strong as some other gymnasts, to pull off an effortless long kip from hanging takes a LOT of strength. Lovely to watch.
nastia liukin is a good gymnast
well her coach was not standing their he just walked away at some point hehe

she's scared of bars I think
She nailed that landing
Omg.. 1st time! Wooww great 2nd time. Congrat.
perfect landing
Seriously? I hafta watch the whole ad?!
Aww she was holding back tears...
It was still a great routine minus the fall on her ginger she is great!
0maeje0 does that mean another all around gold?
Her double layout was nice. Why did she change her dismount?
She grew taller since this and couldn't finish the double layout. Also there was a risk of getting injured
UnBeLiEvAbLe 😂😂😂(never change, Tim)
The screaming !! Enough all ready Let her think !!
love how her spotter saved her from that fall.
ernnman75 what was he supposed to do, dive underneath the bars and use his body as a human crash pad? Get some common sense.
Gymnasts are trained to fall so they don't hurt themselves. The spotter is only there to grab them if they are going to land wrongly or dangerously e.g. on their head. Nastia's spotter - her dad - could see she was falling correctly and got out of the way, as he is meant to do.

She has a slight hip angle on some of her handstands b
What did he mean by it is rare for someone with this body doing such difficult elements? Is her body a disadvantage for her?
I think it's because she quite tall, long legs etc I'm not really sure though
+Haa See She is tall (for a gymnast), which makes it harder to do some of the moves.
Being tall and thin like she was, with less muscle mass, means less power.
And the shorter you are the more centre of gravity you have !! But she has the perfect body for a ballerina

Its funny how through everything, she never learned from that screw up and never got together a plan B

No, it is believable. It happened.

why did the couch stand soo close to her? he got in her way! thats why she fell!
Lol couch
What couch? I don't see any couch.
the only couch i see is the one we have downstairs
*Coaches* typically stand next to the gymnast to spot them on release. However, he didn't attempt to catch her. :(

WHEN I WAS BORNNNNNN
i think is the dream of the father, not her dream,,,,because he was gimnastic and never was in olimpics,,,
Her dad WAS in the Olympics, he was a gold medallist for Russia in 1980! Go look it up.
Her dad won 2 gold medals and 2 silvers at the Olympics
#epicfail
she is such a fail on the first one
but she is better on the second one
