Thanks Charly and Warren for this emotional Masterclass with you and being part of this great days with pleasure, friends and so cool music at a important point of your career !
Wow, Charlie is awesome. Amazing artist. The tracks sound great. The combination of the room, the mics and her performance works so well together, Great!
Wow! What an incredible talent. Now I'm really, really bummed that I had to miss this class. I hope you all will release that piano vocal piece in its entirety. That's brilliant! Sounds amazing. Lewitt mics, a great piano, and Charly for the win!
Dear Warren, thank you so much for making all this content. As a newbie in audio engineering working in New Delhi your channel gives me great comfort and inspiration to keep on working and improving. Hopefully there is a day when I'll meet you in LA... Happy mixing..
I loved these mics from the first video you had made at Spitfire Studios I believe? Only problem was when I went to order the LCT 040 Match pair and LCT 140 Air they were not available for almost two months! I was hoping to incorporate them into my workflow immediately. I blame your popularity out of envy for their backorder... Stellar sounds, room and advice as always! Cheers!
Wow, I think the inexpensive mics are excellent! Having said that I think with Charly's voice especially, she could sing into a dictaphone (remember those) and it would sound amazing! Great sounds on the drums and piano though, spot on.
Should point out I realise the point was not the mic on her vocal being the Shure, and the focus was Lewitt etc, but rather her awesome talent at everything she played/sang! Yes I think I confused even myself haha!
Hi Warren, great video, i am like a hedgehog at the moment, all my hairs standing on end, awesome artist and of course fantastic capture, thank you so much for showing us, all the best, Darren.
Amazing video, love the Hansa Studios, been there some weeks ago. What a great artist though! Thanks for all your educational content, Warren. Happy to welcome you back in Berlin in the future.
I have a question: When recording drums, what is the best way to get your hi hat or toms to sound way to the side while still using my overheads at a good volume? (Example: Dreams by Fleetwood Mac)
I recall an article written about Muse’s Resistance album. Spike stent tracked the album on the SSL pre’s on the desk. I love the sound of the SSL pre’s! Great video warren
Im dying to know more about that fantastic piano sound: are they in cardioid? Don I understand correctly you use different mics for the left and right signal (so not bothering with matched pairs etc...)?
These old SSL's had a Jenson transformer in the mic pre. Nothing wrong with the sound ...Add a pair of 1073's for the kick and snare and you are golden
Question: Setting up a small home studio soon that will be more music oriented than the basic single usb mic I have now. I was thinking of getting a vocal dynamic like a sontronics solo or an sev7 and a stereo pair of something for guitars, ambience or for all around purpose like a pair of lewitt lct 040s. I'll use an evo8 as an interface because it seems to be the only one that can do 4 mics at a time anywhere near the price. Does that setup sound like a good starter or should I go for a large diaphragm condenser somewhere in the budget? Just figured I would start with dynamic vocal mics to be less clinical while singing... meaning not always having to wear headphones :D
Can you use the D112 in far, more than halfway and pointed at the beater, as the only kick mic in a 3 or 4 mic setup? I've always placed it like they did, just inside the port, but I like to have the kick-in way in there if I have a subkick, and I'll high-pass the inside mic, but how about if it is the only one? Will it have "enough" low end?
Are the multitracks not longer avaiable? When I follow the link it says "The site is experiencing technical difficulties." btw great video!!! Thanx alot!
I use a very old master trick.I really shouldn't be giving out the secret sauce, but i know you guys can keep a secret. I use a coffee can and a tight string connected to the other end of another coffee can. Very effective for super low and no-budget sessions where the musician has spent all his/her money on weed, crack and hookers.
I don't want to rain on your parade, The Lewitt on the OH'S might be good in solo. in a mix context they don't even close to a U 87.....Sorry......Same with the Toms. Lewitt arent no match for thr KM 185. !!!!!
thanks so much everybody !!! So cool to see the video of that session!
Thanks ever so much Charly! You Rule!!

Simply 💓 your work .....!!!!
Charly kicks ass.
Another smashing video I would love to see the drum mix on this or perhaps an 80’s style drum mix walkthrough
Hi Ross Paterson thanks ever so much my friend!!
Great passion from her.

I have that same Gretsch Renown kit!
Great info from a glorious studio thanks Warren!
by the way with the blumlein pair you can use either the uad ocean way room OR the T-verb by Visconti which emulates the Hansa big room :)
Im dying to know more about that fantastic piano sound: are they in cardioid? Don I understand correctly you use different mics for the left and right signal (so not bothering with matched pairs etc...)?
thanks Warren , really cool
Where can I listen to the song? Amazing work guys!!!

Man I really want a pair of those Kali audio LP6’s behind you warren. Do you still use them often? I hear great things about em.

Hi André, I checked the link, did it work for you?
Her vocal sounded really big. What was your vocal chain?
What's the song she sings?
It's an original song she wrote. this is an accoustic version. The full production is still in progress
superb but needs a keplinger snare
If you are in Leipzig I can invite you to a coffee 😂😂
Is the place haunted? Btw interview Tony Visconti and Emika
