I think you missed the punchline at the end.
A tragedy or miracle. The tragedy was Violet dying, the miracle was the twins surviving.
But then the ultimate tragedy was one twin killing the other 14 years later and then dying in the aftermath.

He threw himself off by thinking it was Screech coming for Violet just as Ren had turned back time on guitar..

I caught that too, but I saw/felt it in reverse; Him shaking off the heaviness of the previous verse, before going into the (heaver lyrics, but) brighter/lighter guitar melody--contrasted with the lyrics, of course. [Seems so integral to the song, that I feel the need to the same shake-it-off while practicing that section on my guitar, even when I'm not thinking of or singing the lyrics with it.]

Ooooh you missed the twist. No babies died. The babies were Jenny & Screech.
Screech kills Jenny--The police kill Screech---then Ren rewinds time from 2019 to 2005 to tell Violets tale--Violet is killed by Stevie after giving birth to her twins who turn out to be Jenny & Screech who were obviously raised separately and Screech didn’t know he was robbing and killing his twin sister Jenny.

I would not relate this directly to bad stuff in Ren's life. These are tales of societal ills that befall us as a whole. In England, knifings are apparantly akin to shooting in America. Younger hoodlums wander the streets similar to our gangs in the U.S. While it is not stated, I feel Jenny is involved in prostitution even at the young age of 14. Screech's character does not surprise us in any way. Violet's tale relates the learned and generational violence that befalls many in society. It is all a shame and a tragedy. But ultimately it is also avoidable for the most part. And that is the real shame. Society does not care. We are inured to the effects of violence.

    • @markgoldspink5109
      @markgoldspink5109 Рік тому +6

@@markgoldspink5109 It's getting worse though - 282 knife deaths last year, and obviously many more knife woundings and life changing injuries. And society doesn't really care (in general) as long as it's not happening to them. In fact, Ren's idea for this came from a newspaper article about a teenage stabbing, with the article ending with the throwaway phrase 'it's such a shame', as if someone had dropped a bottle of wine.

Ren call this style of music Bardcore and here's the origin story of the trilogy 🤩😁🤯
This wasn't originally a trilogy story. Ren read in the paper one day with a small article about a 14 yr old boy killing a young prostitute with a knife in an attempted robbery. Knife crime had been skyrocketing lately. Later that same evening the boy had been shot and killed by the police . It disturbed him, so he set out to write a commentary not just on senseless violence, but on how desensitized we've become to it. The words he ends both Jenny and Screech's Tales with "It's such a Shame" we say these words all to often and just move on, without a second thought. The article quoted the lead inspector at the scene say " So Young, It's such a shame".
Violets Tale was written over 2 years later adding yet another layer of commentary by Ren. Not only generational violence but making us think (how can both these siblings be so cursed). Born out of violence on that cruel night and then both killed with brutal violence in the same night 14 yrs later. Also, his lyrics have deeper meanings if read in-between the lines you'll more then likely hear something that'll make you think. Here's a couple of things that made me go Hmm...🤔🤔
Jenny has the same traits as her mother Violet, quiet, voiceless, and timid. Where as Screech mirrors his father Stevie in every way, Loud, obnoxious, and easily prone & provoked into violence. They didn't know one another and had never met their biological parents. What made these kids so much like their parents? Was it simply Nature, inherited traits from their genetic makeup or Nurture, being brought up in the broken system filled with broken, mistreated & forgotten children?
    Cheers 🥂

How about going further with Jenny and Screech being like their grandparents as well? Violet's father abused her while her mother remained silent. Violet ended up being charmed by Stevie much like her mother likely was by her father. Who knows what Violet's mother's upbringing was like, was it similar or did she become quiet when she was with Violet's father?

I used to be trying to sleep when my ex would start stabbing my face with a tooth pick, or i'd wake up to him eating his dinner in the middle of the night right under my nose as I slept. Thats just the nice stuff. He also choked me until my bladder let go and i was nearly passing out. My thoughts were on my son, all I could think about as I managed to squeeze out the words 'im sorry' for something I wasn't guilty of, just to live.
My other ex rained punches on my back as I'm trying to get me and my 3 year old out of his house, he choked me until i passed out, then let me go, so i hit my head twice on the way to the ground. All in front of my little boy.
This is way more common than anyone realises. I survived, many don't. Police should be able to charge these monsters, as many women are too scared to go down that path. For many reasons.
I used to think the women that stayed with men (or men who stay with violent women) like that were crazy, but they still love the light side of those abusers, they fell in love with someone who love bombed them, then showed their true colours. Making it so much harder to leave. You end up giving chances where none are deserved.

This one was inspired by a news article he saw about a young person charged with murder- he wrote this to help him get his head around how someone so young got so messed up- its not about anything he went through himself.
You are right its very sad- its basically a shakespearean tragedy with no upside- just shining a light on some of societies ills - probably his darkest song.
You might notice in every song thats about his own experiences - even if they are about a lot of bad stuff there is always hope in them :)
That is Rens true nature- he has been through a lot but still fights on and has always kept hope alive.
p.s Only about a 1/4 of his stuff - that which will go on the hi ren album - is about his bad life experiences etc. Most of his songs are about other stuff.

Ren paints this tale of despair and misery with musical and lyrical finesse. His brutal portrayal of robbery, murder, drug use, incest, family violence, misogyny, and the intergenerational fallout of these issues does indeed confront and challenge us to consider our own views, experiences and actions. Yes, he's calling us out and rightly so. What I don't understand is this: how can reactors agree to broadcast such graphic content on their channels, but censor the language? How is it OK that Violet's death is painted in such vivid detail, but using the word fuck is somehow unacceptable? I'm genuinely interested in understanding this logic. You missed a couple things. Violet’s tale took place in 2005 (London City, far from pretty, 2005), 14 years before the tale of Jenny and Screech. Violet was their mother, and they were the twins. 14 years later, Screech killed his sister. They were likely put in the system and grew up separated since their mother died and their father was a murderer. Jenny was just like Violet, and Screech was like Stevie, his father.

What are you talking about? Babies dying? in 2005 Jenny and Screech were born from Violet "London City far from pretty two zero zero five" that's the date and location. The twins separated put in foster home the twins didn't meet until Screech killed his twin sister Jenny. It is terrible when those who feel don't think. If you pay attention Violet was violated by her father who got her pregnant with twins her mother knew but was too drunk to care. The welfare system took her out of that home and gave her a council flat/government housing at 16 she got a job at Tescos where she met a boy named Stevie who moved into her house. He would beat her when he got drunk. You do a lot of feeling but you gotta do more thinking my friend, people who feel and don't think follow tyrants into hell because their emotions are easily manipulated & they never think about the words and what they mean.

First off rather play his lyrics or do not as they are part of the story, remove them you remove the story, If you cant play Ren without censoring him simply don't cover him.

I totally get it Bill. It took me about a month to decide what I wanted to do. It’s hard with young people watching my channel and me being a teacher. I made a call and I wanted to get the video out since people asked me to do it. I also have a responsibility as a teacher too.

Hi Craig. This was my first time with this song. I think it’s obvious because I missed a few things. I took those words out because I am a teacher and I have some of my young students watching plus other young people. It took me a long time to decide if I was going to do that or not release the song. Sorry it upset you.

@bobcieslinski this is not the outlet ..a quick note
it's funny sometimes a teacher and kids can't curse. At 8 or 9 most approve of switching genders . I thought your review was solid . i understand the complications of being a teacher. good luck

I am a teacher and some of my students watch thr videos along with other young people. I don’t censor things but I had to consider it for this. It took me a month to decide what I wanted to do. I made the best call I could. Sorry you didn’t like it.

@@bobcieslinski This is a song you are listening to, not one that you are chosing the words in the song, you could preface the reaction that you don'tcondone some of the language, I think it a dis-service to the intelect of humanity, and preps them to be ok with other type censoring. Not good, but love ya and thanks for careing so for society. :)
